Despite its age (2016), Far Beyond still looks quite respectable when you turn up the graphics settings properly, including SuperSampling. Attention, the game starts with the lowest graphics settings. However, the game is not as complicated as you would expect. We do have to constantly repair and maintain faulty instruments, for example, but an annoying robot sphere that constantly flies around us tells us what to do, namely: Establishing a travel route in hyperspace, planning "refueling points" on the galactic map, scanning and mining resources with the holoviewer, monitoring the spacecraft's autonomy level to maintain the oxygen recycling system and repairing probes, etc. We can move in our huge spaceship only by teleportation to the necessary stations, but there you can move only by roomscale. So you should have some space. The game seems to have some nice ideas, like scanning planets via controller etc. It shows a lot of potential and the scope is very large. Unfortunately it gets boring sooner rather than later when you realize that it is more of a space repair job simulator than a great space strategy game, which it should be. If you feel like it you are welcome to grab it in the sale, it got too boring for me in the long run that I would keep playing it. I cannot recommend this game. Thankfully i got it on a sale because i cannot plat this game. it seems to not be optimized for Index Knuckle controllers. i could not move forward, only turn left and right; the hands were attached to the wrong controllers and upside down; and the english voice track sounded like Microsoft computer voice after being translated from another language. It also seems true what others reviewers have said that the devs are not supporting the game anymore.
There's an incredibly cool and well thought through world in this product. Unfortunately the game built around it doesn't let you play in it. I only gave it 3 hours, so perhaps not worthy of a review, but i definitely wont be continuing with it anymore. What made me buy this game from the adverts/description: -Rougelike style gameplay -Have to make difficult decisions with limited time and resources -learning to repair and maintain some complicated systems. -upgrade a ship What I actually experienced. -Travel between a set of identical places which will either give you resources or not (just luck) -Travel Time between safe spots is so short that any task other than collect resources is impossible. -(Due to above mentioned time restriction) All maintenance must be done in safe zones so it just becomes a boring chore rather than a timed task or a choice of what to repair and what not to. -90% of resources collected go into replacing fuel or parts used to collect resources. So if you're lucky you'll just about break even for a while until you get unlucky and end up stranded. Normally I'd give a bunch of suggestions to improve the game since there's so much potential but as development seems dead and finding any kind of forum activity was impossible, it doesn't seem like there's much point. I wish the designers of something like FTL could get their hands on this to make a game out of it instead of just an awesome concept.
I really wish I could recommend this game but in the end there is simply not enough depth to make the game interesting. The Good: - Disassemble and repair huge probes and parts of your ship with hand tools. - Upgrade your probes with new parts. - Resource management (not executed that well) - Graphically impressive The Bad: - Your upgraded parts don't do anything except last longer - No depth to exploration. Each system has planets that are either ore or fuel, that's it. - Even extending the battery life it's max is 10 minutes meaning you constantly need to find a system to charge in without running out of fuel. The concept is great. Space survival with maintaining your ship and equipment with hand tools requiring you to disassemble everything bit by bit but that's it. Upgraded arts don't do that much for improving gameplay and the one place that would benefit from longer life parts (fuel cells) cannot be upgraded. I'll probably play this a bit more but I do not recommend purchasing it. You've done everything there is to do by just going through the intro of the game. With some gameplay expansion this could be a great game but I don't think an update is coming.
i got in the habit of powering up the controllers so my hand were correct in-game, but the lack of being able to rotate the play space made most of the menu unreachable. I have refunded the game due to the only "fix" being third party software. Might pick up again if they add more options for the playspace.
Dang this game is old. I had to dust it off my digital shelf. When I tried this at release date, i was slightly turned off because of the jagged edges. With my super quantum built computer and valve index, it is a true site to behold. Kidding aside. if you loved the scene with HAL 2000 and the astronaut in 2001 space odyssey, this game will get you so close to that feeling of being alone in space and trying to survive. I don't regret buying this long ago and I am so excited to play this on my 2080ti and vive pro.....(just finished my valve index order) Highly recommended!
Pretty lazy work tbh, couldnt even bother to have unique looking planets, they are basically suns with different color textures on them.
This game literally rips the mouse out of your hand when you're trying to set up OBS to stream or record it... Why does it need full control over my mouse? ..TRASH! Uninstalling and never touching it again... If I can't even start the game and set up OBS to stream or record it without my mouse magically popping to center of screen every 3 seconds, then I don't need to play it...
I love the idea of the game, but unfortuantely it cannot produce any atmosphere, feels very tedious and got poor performance. If this game would have coop multiplayer for teamplay finding solutions in stress situations or fps shooter / exploration parts on planets or with other aliens, that would enrich the game to the point it finally could make fun playing it. But it does not, so no fun neither :( If you like the feeling that you are the dumbest technican / commander in the universe doing tasks a 5yr can do over and over again in the same sequence...than this game is for you. Otherwise buy Pulsar: Lost Colony VR, No Mans Sky VR, Subnautica VR etc.
