Fallen Legion Revenants is the sequel to Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory which actually combines both Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire and Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion into a single release. All three games are action-based side scrolling RPGs in the style of traditional JRPGs, centered on fast-paced, real-time combat. The story of Fallen Legion Revenants focuses on Rowena’s quest to free her son locked up in the prisons of the Welkin Castle - the last remaining bastion of mankind, sadly ruled by a tyrant. As the former chancellor of the castle, Rowena is wrongfully executed for treason but her desire to free and raise her son keeps her tied to the mundane world in her spirit form as a revenant. She allies with Lucian - a member of Welkin Castle’s council whose goal is to dethrone the tyrant and improve the lives of Welkin Castle’s inhabitants through various political decisions. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2862589450 As Rowena, you control during battles 3 spectral warriors known as Exemplars, which contribute to the fight with their own specific abilities, some of them being ranged, others being melee, some being better at producing damage, while others assuming the role of a tank. Of the two attacks that each Exemplars has, the basic one has a relatively low impact on enemies’ health and is used mainly for charging up a shared bar that allows them to release their deathblows when the target is reached. These are your main damage sources, while Rowena’s abilities are focused on supporting or healing the group. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2862589515 Fallen Legion Revenants takes Rowena and her team from one battlefield to the next, with several groups of enemies that have to be defeated sequentially. The combat is very intense, in a “button-mashing” kind-of style and blocking / parrying is of uttermost importance. I can go as far as saying that blocking or deflecting enemy attacks often creates more damage than your own basic spells. The Exemplars that Rowena brings in her party can be chosen before each fight, and new ones can be discovered by defeating various bosses - this adds a bit of flexibility and the ability to adjust the combat to your playstyle, more or less. The Exemplars' mastery can also be increased by fulfilling various in-game challenges, related to combat (for example performing a perfect block a certain amount of times). During each battlefield, Rowena will face at some point the decision of following one of two possible paths: an easier one, and a difficult one that usually leads to a boss fight. During this decision, the story shifts to Lucien, who will quickly need to find clues inside the castle about which path is which. These are story-sequences in which he either talks to various castle residents and promises his support for a reform in exchange for sensitive information, or he tries to find this information himself by reading certain books. However, everything is timed, and sometimes there isn’t enough time to enjoy the story or to ponder on what to do. Supporting some politicians will have others disagree with Lucian, and it usually boils down to trading one good relationship for another. During two consecutive battlefields, there’s usually a story intermission and the game allows you to visit the upgrade hubs or to save - there is no possibility to save otherwise. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2862589477 The game has 3 difficulty modes, and for me even the easiest seemed rather challenging - I struggled quite a lot during boss fights (which took minutes and lots of iterations and revivals), but I think this is because I’m not very used to the combat style. There’s a certain rhythm to the attacks that one needs to train themselves for, and there’s also the need to time your blocks perfectly while keeping an eye on which abilities you can use. Planning your deathblows at critical times, quick reactions and focusing your attention on multiple things at the same time are what makes the game very intense and demanding. Fallen Legion Revenants is a game with beautiful graphics, fully voiced in both English and Japanese, which is most suited for those who enjoy a fast-paced, feverish combat and button mashing during fights, combined with a story-rich, choice-driven gameplay. Enjoying the game so far. A clever mixture of Valkyrie Profile-style combat in Rowena's sideand political scheme in Lucien's, with branching plot affected by your choices, all in a setting of dark fantasy. A very enjoyable game... if it weren't for a glitch that isn't game-breaking but it's annoying and can potentially keep you from getting trophies: in some of the mini-tutorials where you learn new moves or magic, monsters are misplaced, so some zone attacks can't hit the monsters. Since you need to kill the monsters with those new moves, the tutorlal can never be cleared and you can't learn the moves. So far it has happened with three moves: Burgundy's Fulminating Gold, Jacquine's Whirlpool and Rowena's Formless Void, but I suspect it will happen with any zonal attack that doesn't hit zones 3 and 4. It's a glitch as simple as it's annoying, and somehow gives the feeling that developers didn't even care to run the minimal game testing. So, I'm downvoting the game until a patch is released to fix this.
As a player you're not passively waiting your turn to come by, you can still deflect the attack from enemies which I think is a nice feature for a turn based game like this. The stage is linear and quite straight-forward which means you don't get to explore the environment much, tho you do get nice battle and up until this stage, it still feels engaging for me. This game also wins my heart for it's visual, I really like the character design and the environment in general. The animation is also pretty fluid. Overall a great game and definitely worth for people that like JRPG games.
Sadly I played it for more than 2 hours in order to understand the game. I can not recommend this game for these reasons: - I felt it was nothing more than a "Smash X; A; B" Simmulator. - After 2,5 hours in the game I didn't feel a single (reasonable) change in the gameplay OR the scenario. - Zero sense of progression for either the decisions you're making or the influence you have with the people. - The sudden swap between the fighting and the decision making / potion creation turned out to be more annoying than helpful/interesting. - Again, 2,5 hours in the game and didn't even felt interesting to talk to the NPCs since their answers seemed pretty much the same ( I think they may change eventually but after almost 3 hours going to the same places to get the same answers I didn't feel motivated at all to continue) - Apart from other games that you start small and then progresses and FEEL the progression, this game and it's fighting style made me feel like the combat was intentionally made with lacking elements and the integration of those elements is what it was supposed to be the progression. The result is a feeling that maybe in 3 or 5 hours of gameplay you can start to have fights as they were supposed to be. (What I meant by that is like, instead of the "new things" feel like an addition to the game, they mostly seem like it was a part of the core fighting that was removed until you play for a long time). I actually insta-bought the game expecting a gameplay similar to Soul Nomad or Symphony of war. So that may also be one of the things that put me down. I was expecting more things to be a part of the gameplay, and sooner. Pretty disapointed with it, and sadly played it enough to not be able to refund :/
PERFECT BLOCK IS THE BEST FEELING IN THE WORLD 11/10
Haven't try long enough but I really like the parry system since I came from a hack n slash player so a reaction based mechanic is welcomed. Still having trouble with juggling between 4 exemplar, but parry help me t stay alive. Still want to know more about the gameplay depth and story so I'll stick around ^^
didnt expect that to be action based, thats pretty cool, altho the controls are pretty messed up on keyboard
无中文,steam版本解锁新角色的教程还会卡流程。只能强退,这教程看脸概率能好。
The Bleak Future awaits in an uncertain Wheel of Fate + Valkyrie Profile-like combat with hints of Sekiro and tactical timing + time limit decision making (rewards you, shift opinions and do you a favor) + dual prota descions + some high level difficulty combat even on normal + customizing your party and gain new equip can shift combat in your favor + graphic reminds of Odin Sphere (PS3 Game) + some Exemplars (your team members) are from Fallen Legion + tutorial is good, but some things are earlier unlocked (so you have to figure out yourself) + interesting protagonist duo + some enemies are pretty hard, you need precise timing, else you die. +/- button mashing will work against the player (skill issue) - you can miss out some things when you are not fast enough - unexpected loading times in some dialogues (so dont shut down your client) - plenty of bugs which can hinder your progress ingame(Position bugs, skill glitches, text glitches, screen glitches etc.) - some usefull QoL, but mostly the important are missing (fast switching between menu with R1, switching between Archeus should be faster) - some story segments are kinda bleak - some story sequences doesnt explain enough or leave something to be desired Conclusion: As the Game is pretty much weaker as the first installment, some things have improved. Like combar design, skills and more freemdom while fighting. the story however is pretty much simple and at same time confusing. Some character opinion and actions are questionable, some ppl will vanish during story without a hint. Also the story revolves and recycles the same procedure. This game has many bugs too, so that some story segments are either skipped or werid because of the loading times. The game feels pretty much unpolished in some important matters, which kills the replay value. The combar and enemies are still much harder that the first part thats ok. but somehow it was kinda half hearted attempt. But still playable... Score: 60 13/10 Objection! 13/10 Family! 1337/10 Like an assassin!
