i didn't sign an NDA, nor am I considered a part of the team anymore, so I will review this game both from the inside and outside. Outside As for exam and prologue, grammar wasn't fixed since the release of chapter 1 and 2 (aka. exam and prologue) on itch.io. Some consider it the charm of this game, so take this with a grain of salt. As for the final chapter, the hacking game feels slow. Redundant. On an old IPS laptop monitor the third bit is practically impossible. The contrast of additional voice acting draws a clear line between the Exam+Prologue and Final. As for the entirety: + Has terrifying moments I didn't expect. I had an "AAAH!!" moment twice thorough the entire gameplay. Has a good atmosphere and can unnerve you in some places. + Cool concept, with a lot of potential, although nothing original. - No pause menu, so you can only quit with alt+f4 or the button in main menu (to which you can't quit from gameplay). - No settings menu, so you can't turn down the game unless you do it manually in your own system. - No progression - you can skip over the first two parts of the game... because! - No known saving system - Prologue sounds like it should be BEFORE the exam, or before whatever is considered the main story. - Poor sound mastering. One moment the calls blast, one moment they're so quiet I have to boost them. - Story, in it's entirety, makes no sense. Feels like a beta stage visual novel. The Longeyed creatures lack a concrete definition, as it gets adjusted between "chapters".
We never understand what the organisation is or why it's evil, why Frank is evil, why is the player personally hacked and confronted, who "she" is, what's up with the dream sequence
- the lack of knowledge doesn't make the plot creepier. It makes it unfinished. - No credits menu, game is checked as fully voiced in english, polish, hungarian and russian, but isn't etc etc Inside I initially volunteered to write the script for Chapter 3 (aka. Final) in October. I wanted to be the VA (and I am!), but the previous writer left and didn't finish it, so I offered to replace him - although I could only write for chapter 3. The intent at first was to release chapter 3 seperately, so I couldn't "remaster" the previous two. I was also in charge of finding voice actors, and eventually also had to do sound engineering. I finished the script, I found as many voice actors as possible and gave them each line + coached them, but couldn't compile the voicelines on time for the December release. Human error and honest mistake. The script in total had over 5000 words, but before the game got released, because I failed to do sound engineering on time, I got paid ~150$ for all my work, rid of my % in game profits and had no more say in the development, to which I agreed. My script, which the developer praised, got cut up, most of it discarded and compiled into what you see in chapter 3. One of the VAs that you hear (before the segment with photos and AI generated lines) actually voiced TWO different cases, but he ended up only having that little "glitchy" chunk make it, as the game was being rushed so hard for profit that the developer didn't bother finding him a matching voice actress to fulfill the two female roles in both cases. In my opinion, this game is NOT meant in the same price bracket as Undertale, Break The Game or The Past Within. It is a cashgrab, made as fast as possible after Markiplier, GT Live and others played the first two chapters. I regret working on it, I understand that comparing to industry standards I was slow, but if I knew I'd write a script, have it torn up and then get credited for it's remains, I wouldn't have joined. I hope the game gets a polishing update so people don't feel ripped off. I'm sorry to those who got disappointed at launch.
Honestly kind of disappointing, the story doesn’t seem to really go anywhere and the devs clearly aren’t native english speakers and it’s obvious based on the voice acting and written text. Pros: The presentation gives off analog horror vibes which I personally like. No cheap jumpscares. Cons: Plot lacks depth. Voice acting isn’t very good. One of the images used to make you feel nervous/unsettled looks like an edited picture of Michael Jackson and it was pretty distracting and not very scary.(lmao) Overpriced considering length. (beat it in like 40 something minutes) The aforementioned issues means its not really engaging enough to justify going back to get the other possible ending. (I got the good ending on my first attempt)
The mandela catalogue if it was somewhat interactive, and bad. What you essentially do here is listen to bad voice acting, read text with bad grammar, and click images. Nothing you choose matters or has any impact. A lot of these images are taken from creepypastas or various other sources, and arent unique to the game. In the last part you can "hack" files, which have you play the famous scary maze game, except that it isnt scary, but eye draining and slow. The only good thing I can say about this is the sounds used on several occasions. Horror/Surrealist centered Curator: KuriKuration
This game sucks! You can finish it in 40 minutes and nothing is really scary in the game. The voice actors are horrible and besides the first 2 chapters, the final is boring as hell. Their discord is full of ''adult stuff'' and nothing is professional.
Solid but not amazing. 6/10 Pros: - The aesthetic nails the horror analog vibe - The images are mostly disturbing (a few are very noticeably stock images tho) - Jumpscares are mostly timed well Cons: - Voice acting is a little rough, especially in the first 2 chapters - Overpriced, game runs for 50 minutes max - The hacking segments were meh, the scraping noise in the last one was especially rough for my ears Definitely recommend if you enjoy The Mandela Catalogue and other analog horror series, if you like this game I also recommend you check out Assessment Examination and Maple County on itch io, those games follow a similar pattern
Totally recommending this game! It was quite fun, especially when u playing during night. In overall, just want to say that is psychological horror , and it doesn`t meant to be so scary.
i don't think this is worth $5
hey hey hey!! This is a great analog horror and is a prime example of the genre.. the smells like teen spirit of analog horror. I quite enjoyed the unnerving pics and calls. HERES MY COMPLAINT (just one) The voice acting is incomplete and at the end its just subtitles with a language I dont understand. WHICH I REALLY LOVED!! I liked hearing the native language with subtitles. AND THAT IS MY COMPLAINT... the english dubs are so bad and corny... id rather hear it in the language i dont understand with subtitles the WHOLE game. Make the change developer. Would be easy to do. Anyway.. besides that complaint that really does sour the whole experience as you can tell there budget constraints or time constraints or he didnt pay someone for their work or something... ITS A GREAT ANALOG HORROR! And thats all that really matters... if annoying doods speaking Engrish doesnt bother you. Anyway, 7/10
Я в первый раз играю в игру такого типа, но могу сказать что игра довольно неплохая. Ни с чем сравнить не смогу. Ставлю 8 яриков из 10
I saw Markiplier playing this game during a Mandela Catalogue gaming spree and I was so glad to find it on Steam (got it on sale). It has discreet psychological horror that stings, and I really enjoyed it. No jumpscares, just messing with your head. Playing this with headphones and lights off adds a lot to experience.
