Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.43/day in the week to Aug 7 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

While i am a fan of piranha byte games, i can not give this a (general) recommendation. If you are a gamer with endurance and enjoy dialogue heavy games, Elex will prove interesting the more time you invest. Same for me! Actually i would say, the main plot of Elex is amazing, perfect for a movie, as it has some twists every now and then. I would totally recommend it if the start of the game would not be painful and the game would not suffer in general cause of a few hurdles, which i do not want to overlook because i enjoyed the plot. The Problems are no hurdles you can not jump over, but the question is if you are willing to struggle for enjoying the scenario and plot development.
Movement and Menues as main problems
As much as i liked the Gothic and Risen Series - despite their flaws, i did not get warm with ELEX because i expected improvement. My perspective does not take into account todays top tier games like Arc Raider with movements as smooth as butter in the desert sun, but primary the direct predecessors. Elex has worse gameplay like the predecessor Risen, you collide with a lot of things and movements are clunky, if you draw your weapon or put it back, it takes a long time until you can enter other Input, cancelling an operation is news to the game. Another aspect which made me shake my head is the lack of menue explanation. You get tons of menues and have to deal with it. The high quantity does not lead to quality though. You might expect that a menue helps you to get an idea which items you have equipped and how much more you can equip, but there is no menue that would show equipment slots and the highlight color indicating equipped items in the bare menue is pretty easy to overlook.
Attributes and Skillset
The main problem is the lack of explanation and understanding of the worth. There are plenty of abilities that have little effect, with the worst the experience+ skills from slaying monsters, missions or reading. Which results in getting the skillpoint back as you get a level until the end of the game. And pretty not fun, is that you have no idea about growing attribute point costs. To reach 50 Intelligence you would expect to spend 50 attributepoints (equaling 5 level ups) but you need 70 points. There are tresholds. After 30 every +1 costs 2 points, after 50(?) you even need 5 points. To bad that you do not have an idea how much experience points you (exactly) need for level up either.
Terraindesign
The world feels rough not only from movement of the character, i like a different feel, but a lot of the rocky terrain feels very raw. And worse, sometimes you land somewhere with your jetpack but you just slide down, even though it looked like you could find some grip. Or you get stuck in places which seemed like you could walk or roll through. Or you bug around in one place as the collisions are not working well. While i believe the overall design was pretty interesting when ELEX came out, i do not want to criticise it hard even though a few things repeat to much. I still consider the overall world ambient alright.
World interactions
It feels like the time has stopped. The old Gothic 1 - i do not want to talk about the earlier archangel which i played too - has the same feel. A feel which was amazing in the last millenium, but which is sadly not in todays game world. The world interaction is very limited, despite lots of small items are lying around everywhere. It feels random what items you can interact with and actually you have to run around instead of having the possibility to use your eyes and see if for example a knife on a table can be put into your bag or it is not interactable at all. Not fun is, that you need to click every item individually, which is fine for a few clicks but you get so many items with low worth which you sadly can not ignore as you need the money and you need to pick it up so you know, if you can pick up something else lying in the vicinity. Another not fun interaction is, that you get displayed the message that you can climb a lot. You wander through rubble, want to pick up items but then you get distracted by the message for every damn table, rock, car, generator, scrap whatever.
A battle system which leaves you breathless
I will not argue about the battle system much, lets say i adress it to my own skill that i suck to win early fights against human characters and even had trouble understanding it. I constantly wondered why it felt so differently in the tutorial-part. There you had a (weirdly distracting) slow-motion effect and it fights just worked out. While in later fights your endurance is gone after two melee attacks and then you move like an old sir or lady. On the opposite some early enemies do not deal well with you walking in circles around them, even in grandpa walking speed. One good point is that the game offers you a jetpack, but solves the problem that comes with the ability to get to places where enemies can not reach. As most enemies can shoot something sniping them from afar is at least not completely free.
Scenario and Characterdesign and visual appeal
I liked the scenario and lore and i had a great first impression with the new detailed faces of NPC and a lot of different voices plus dialogues. After a first tour through the city i believe that female characters could have gotten a little bit more love, as three women in the town have the same face but at least a nice face. Most other characters have a individual feel. Later you will see the very limited use of 3d-models all over the world for human NPC. Lucky the voices are different and the voice acting is pretty good (in german) so the damage for the appeal is reduced. In terms of raw graphics the game is not amazing. Even with higher settings it looks at least not better, i would say worse, then the Risen 2 and 3 games.
conclusion
I made it and completed the game after 80 hours of failing and trying again. It could have been more easy and i definetly would not tryhard to save skillpoints, you will get more then enough later, and more fightingpower means more income. After the hard first 30 hours ;) i got some power and finally things got easy. Actually a bit to much. But i finally could enjoy the good parts of the game, characterdesign, a huge world with lots of variations in missions and interesting plot design. This gave me motivation to struggle a bit. And i feel rewarded, the plot's conversion to the end was good, a perfect setup to start with Elex2. Advice: If you want to play this game, get some levels, get some strength (melee) or dexterity (bow) first, and do not try to maximize with the +1 Skillpoint Ability at each levelup and do not get "get more XP" skills. The effect of getting it at lvl 8-10 and reaching lvl 35-40 until end of game, might sound rewarding, but those 25-30 points are not worth the suffering early - i tell you. Just make sure you decide for one fighting style and you have enough points later. My favorite anecdote of Elex: I laughed when i first saw that there is a skill of a jetpack melee attack and i wondered if i would hit an enemy if i tried 100 times, cause the laggy/buggy controls. Actually it is not completely bad. Some random talk. A shame that piranha bytes could not go on to reach the time (2024+) where ai tools helped to improve game making a lot. Stories were their strong suit.

ELEX, developed by Piranha Bytes, is an ambitious open-world action RPG that blends science fiction and fantasy elements into a sprawling post-apocalyptic setting. Set on the planet Magalan, the game plunges players into a fractured world where futuristic technology coexists with swords, magic, and monstrous creatures. This juxtaposition creates a distinctive atmosphere that sets ELEX apart from more traditional RPGs. While it embraces some familiar tropes of the genre, the game’s scale, freedom, and thematic complexity make for a unique and often rewarding experience. At the heart of ELEX is its vast open world, inviting players to explore diverse biomes—from frozen tundras and dense forests to ruined cities and wastelands—each teeming with wildlife, hostile factions, and hidden secrets. The world feels lived-in and reactive, with player choices affecting faction relationships and quest outcomes. Exploration is heavily encouraged, and the game rewards curiosity with loot, lore, and side quests that flesh out the complex history of Magalan. This sense of discovery is bolstered by the inclusion of a jetpack, which dramatically expands verticality and freedom, allowing players to traverse otherwise inaccessible terrain and approach combat or stealth from multiple angles. Combat in ELEX is a blend of melee, ranged, and magical attacks, with a skill system that lets players tailor their playstyle. Whether wielding swords, guns, or psionic powers derived from the mysterious substance called Elex, combat requires timing, positioning, and resource management. Enemies vary widely, ranging from feral mutants to heavily armed soldiers, demanding players adapt their tactics. However, combat can sometimes feel clunky or unpolished, with occasional hit detection issues and stiff animations that detract from its otherwise strategic depth. Despite this, the game’s challenge and variety in combat keep encounters engaging throughout the journey. Narratively, ELEX dives into themes of survival, power, and morality within a fractured society. Players assume the role of Jax, a former elite soldier grappling with his identity and loyalties as he navigates the conflict between the game’s four major factions, each embodying different philosophies and methods—ranging from technology worshipers to nature devotees and magical ascetics. The branching storylines and dialogue choices impact the world and character relationships, though the writing and voice acting can occasionally feel uneven or stiff. Still, the complex faction dynamics add layers of political intrigue and player agency that enrich the narrative experience. Visually, ELEX employs a somewhat rugged art style with detailed environments that capture the harshness of its world. Character models and animations are serviceable but not particularly refined, reflecting the game’s focus on breadth and depth over polish. The sound design, including ambient environmental effects and a fitting soundtrack, effectively enhances immersion, though some voice performances are hit-or-miss. Overall, the audiovisual presentation supports the game’s tone without pushing technical boundaries. While ELEX offers a deep and expansive RPG experience, it is not without flaws. The game’s ambitious scope sometimes leads to uneven pacing and a steep learning curve that may frustrate newcomers. UI elements and quest tracking can be cumbersome, and bugs or glitches occasionally interrupt immersion. However, for players willing to invest time and patience, these issues are outweighed by the richness of the world, the freedom of choice, and the compelling blend of sci-fi and fantasy. In conclusion, ELEX stands out as a bold and distinctive RPG that challenges conventions by merging genres and offering players vast freedom in a complex, morally ambiguous world. Its strengths lie in its open-ended exploration, faction-driven narrative, and diverse combat options, while its rough edges serve as reminders of its indie roots. For fans of open-world RPGs looking for a game that offers a fresh take on post-apocalyptic storytelling with layers of depth and player agency, ELEX is a rewarding, if sometimes challenging, adventure worth undertaking. Straszne drewno z okropną fabułą, nie działającą walką i bezsensowną eksploracją.
The only reason I haven’t played good games in recent years is stupid reviews on steam. Seeing “mixed” and “mostly positive” meant a “bad” game for me. Do yourself a favor and ignore steam reviews. Elex and games like it are games with soul. It’s rare to find good open world rpgs with meaningful exploration, dialogues and quests. The world here is vast with lore and many things to see. It is a flawed game? Yes it is, just like with all good games, there are flaws. In order to have a game that deserves your time, you need to have developers that try new things and don’t hang on ancient series. Yes the formula is like Gothic but it is not Gothic or Risen, It’s is own game. As for the gameplay itself. It’s really hard. You will get eater, kills and you will die for most of the game until you understand where you need to be. You will take your time with it to explore and win little fights. Slowly you will find what works for you. Try different methods and end up being a god that can take the whole map. Can you abuse the system? I bet you can. But that is what makes it fun. They is not hand holding here and you have to discover everything for yourself. So when you are able to abuse the system it feels rewarding and not “cheating”. It’s not a sterile experience like all the AAA games you’re used to. Again, the game is not perfect. But you can sink in many many hours with a minimum of 3 play through to I think. It’s totally worth it,
0/10 Would not recommend This game is pretty bad. The voice acting, the dialogue, the game play and the movement. If I didn't get this in a humble bundle I would have refunded it. The only thing its got going for its self is the environment looks pretty. The movement is incredibly bad btw. The game also takes a while to respond sometimes when I am trying to pick things out from containers. This game as a whole is just a clown fiesta. Can't believe this got a sequel.
