Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Reviews
If you can stomach random encounters its just as high-quality as the later games and will often make you forget it was originally on the NES

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 3: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

great game! Don't bother with the post-game though, way too grindy to be fun or worth it

Fun game and runs great on the deck. Story and vibes and soothing and doesnt stress you out. Would recommend
I really hope Square Enix removes the censorship of Akira Toriyama designs soon and restores the main characters genders. As soon as I heard Square Enix was firing all of the American developers responsible for ruining one of my all time favorite game I immediately bought the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD 2d remake and Dragon Quest 3 HD 2d remake after waiting almost a year to buy Dragon Quest 3 remake.

klassisches rundenbasiertes Kampfsystem
sehr einfache, aber funktionale Storystruktur
freie Erkundung ohne linearen Pfad

If you love modern JRPGs you owe it to yourself to finish this game. The platinum is a grind, but this is an all-time classic and I would play it again, just in a casual setting.
1988 DNA in a 2026 Tuxedo: Beautiful, but Bitter. Mixed / Not Recommended I wanted to love this. I really did. I’ve made it all the way to
Zoma’s Castle
on Draconian at Level 40, and honestly? I’m just... done. The HD-2D coat of paint is gorgeous, but it can’t hide the fact that this game is fundamentally designed to rub your face in 80s friction. The "Difficulty Consensus" you’ll see on Reddit is spot on: the early game is a breeze, but the late game becomes a wall of artificial, "cheap" stat-checking that assumes you’ve spent hours grinding. The "Swoosh" PTSD is real. The encounter rate is tuned to a frequency that makes exploration feel like a repetitive chore. You cannot walk five paces without that "swoosh" battle transition triggering. It’s not a challenge; it’s an interruption. On Draconian, where every random encounter is a resource-draining tax on your MP, you spend more time in the "Auto-heal" menu than actually playing. Even Holy Water and
Padfoot
kinda stop working in the final stretch, trapping you in a loop of mandatory, boring skirmishes that provide zero tactical satisfaction. Verdict: If you have infinite patience for 1980s design and "hidden pixel" logic, you’ll be fine. But if you’ve played modern masterpieces like Metaphor or even DQXI, the friction here will eventually break you. I’ve reached the final door on the hardest setting, and I don't even feel like opening it. 7/10 for the art. 3/10 for the random encounters.
