Visually the game is much worse. It lost all its atmosphere. Instead of walking through damp, dark, foggy alleyways most of the game is set in bright, nicely lit environments. Not to mention that the game lost some of its artstyle and ultimately charm. The previous main character now having a voice also feels very out of place. Anyway I boot up the game, play the tutorial and then watch the intro cutscene. The very first thing I see is a female military general, high ranking supposedly, as she interacts with the queen herself, OK. Then I see a black butler, sure? And 5 seconds later a Chinese guy. All in a throne room, in a game that is set in Victorian era alternate history, steampunk England. Dishonoured 1 had none of this by the way. Mind I remind you, this is from the opening cutscene only. I expect this to only get worse. I don’t want to look like some hypocrite. I do enjoy my woke game, but seriously wft is this? I wasn't expecting this stark of a contrast. Especially not from a near decade old game. Take this with a grain of salt since I have only played this for 15 minutes and a lot of what I said comes from promotional images/trailer.
Dishonored 2 is a fantastic sequel that builds on almost everything the first game did right. The level design is outstanding, the stealth mechanics are some of the best in gaming, and if sneaking isn't your thing, the aggressive combat is just as satisfying. Whether you want to ghost through every mission or leave chaos in your wake, the game gives you complete freedom. Playing as Emily introduces a fresh set of powers and a different approach to combat, which keeps things interesting. That said, I chose Corvo from start to finish. After falling in love with the first game, it just didn't feel right playing anyone else. Stepping back into Corvo's boots felt like coming home, and his classic abilities are still incredibly fun to use. My only real criticism is that I never felt as connected to the characters or story as I did in the original. While the gameplay evolved in every way, the narrative lacked the impact and emotional weight that made Dishonored so memorable. The first game's story constantly kept me invested, whereas Dishonored 2 felt more focused on refining the gameplay than delivering an equally compelling narrative. I'm also glad Arkane didn't stretch this franchise the way some long-running series have. The first Dishonored is a masterpiece, and Dishonored 2 is a genuinely great sequel that respects what came before without trying to endlessly milk the formula. If you enjoy immersive sims, stealth games, or simply want some of the best level design in gaming, both Dishonored and Dishonored 2 are must-plays. Overall: 8/10
I just wish for Dishonored 3....
Just like Dishonored 1, it has it flashes of brilliance, but the overall package is pretty meh in my opinion. The combat is dull, the stealth is boring, the plot is shallow and you don't feel invested in the story. Honestly, if you want a good stealth game, just play Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The game is fun, an okay continuation of the first game. I liked the new locations and the missions itself aren't bad. But compared to Dishonored 1, Dishonored 2 lacks the juice, the story doesn't have that same dark, gritty feel to it. I played through both high and low chaos in the first game, but i couldn't be bothered to go for high chaos in this one. Maybe when i do go for high chaos I'll update my review.
I feel honored
