Considering this game was released in what, 2014? Goodness does it feel janky. The final mission was borderline unplayable, climbing system clunky, and it's game that feels like it is almost there. Im excited to see how the second fixed some of these issues.
While ive always enjoyed stealth mechanics in games. Ive never used them beyond a certain point. So playing a game built around the concept of stealth being the primary game mechanic and actual combat being discouraged it defiantly took some time to get use to. While frustrating at times there was never a challenge i couldn't beat and i never felt stuck. More so just annoyed at having to repeat certain sections until i got them right as autosaving was rare and items were limited. Tough but mostly fair challenge with a story that was better than i expected especially the second half even it has a lack luster ending Full review Here: https://youtu.be/bRsmod-xBGg
Styx: Master of Shadows is a stealth game through and through. If you're expecting action or a power fantasy, this isn't it. If you're a hack-and-slash player who likes to jump in and kill everything in your path, this is not the game for you—you should probably avoid it. Despite looking like a vicious and intimidating goblin, Styx is actually very fragile. He can't take much punishment, so avoiding direct confrontations is essential. The game encourages patience, careful planning, and staying hidden, but I found that the guards were almost too aware of their surroundings. They notice suspicious behavior quickly, making even small mistakes feel heavily punished. This creates tension, but it can also become frustrating rather than rewarding. One of my biggest issues was the lack of an active map that shows your current location. Since the levels can be confusing and enemies are constantly patrolling, it's easy to lose your bearings. Combined with the highly alert guards, navigating the environments often became more stressful than enjoyable. There are players who will appreciate the challenge and the emphasis on pure stealth, and the game certainly sticks to its vision. However, it wasn't a fun experience for me. While I can respect what it tries to do, the demanding stealth mechanics, unforgiving enemy awareness, and lack of navigation tools made it difficult to enjoy. If you're a fan of old-school, unforgiving stealth games, you may find a lot to like here. For me, though, the frustration outweighed the satisfaction, and I can't recommend it unless you're specifically looking for that kind of challenge.
+Great stealth game play +Great art style +Great level design -Lame, yet understandable combat
