The developers seem completely focused on pumping out big romance updates at the absolute expense of the core gameplay. I don’t mind a grind, but the fundamental mechanics here are just poorly thought out. Mining is an unrewarding chore; ore spawn rates are abysmal, meaning you can break a hundred rocks and maybe get five actual ores, with the rest yielding nothing but stone. Unlike other farm sims, there's no real progression incentive or scaling rewards for pushing deeper into the caverns. To make matters worse, combat is pointless because the monsters are laughable and practically sleep through encounters. Even the fishing mechanic feels dumb and clunky. Glitches aside, if the basic, everyday gameplay loops aren't fun, a cozy aesthetic and romance options aren't enough to save it. I'd rather play something else.
You may look at my hours played and wonder, "Huh, why would she leave a negative review when obviously she's played this so much?". TLDR; Its been FULLY RELEASED, 1.0, for almost 3 years. WITHOUT full content. WITHOUT promised content from kickstarter. WITHOUT the full ending of storylines, plotlines, core game mechanics, you name it. I love this game, and the characters, the setting, the vibes. This has put me off of early access games, but EVEN THEN its been at 1.0 for 3 YEARS so TECHNICALLY its not early access is it? Make it make sense. This is a great game, you will have so much fun playing it, but the frustration of it still not being a completed game makes me leave this negative review.
👍 RECOMENDADO "Joguei pirata.
I absolutely love this game. It is loaded with content and story rich, solves so many annoyances you encounter in similar titles, has THE CUTEST animations and the HOTTEST character art, it's challenging enough without feeling impossible. I love the diving, and won't spoil for anyone looking at this game - but there are sooooo many charming elements to unlock and discover! If you love Stardew, Cozy Grove, Sims, and similar titles - this game will scratch an itch. It is easily in my Top 5 favorite games
This game is absolutely phenomenal. Just like Stardew Valley took the farming sim concept from the original Harvest Moon games, Coral Island took a lot of concepts from Stardew Valley and expanded it by a significant amount. They upgraded every concept of the game. Including (and not limited to) amazing events with minigames and pamphlets, SO many more NPCs with lots of really gorgeous romance-able options, deep plot within the town (though I would love if there was a bit more tea), an ocean conservation angle, and right when we thought we were close to finishing the game, a whole underwater world opened up with double the amount of content. You can go as deeply into the strategy of the game as you want, or just go around enjoying your time on the island. This game is great for people who don't enjoy pixel art (though I love pixel art myself). 10/10 for the stretch marks and real body representation, especially in the PC. There are also so many date opportunities, at times I was even overwhelmed by the sheer quantity! I also love the accessibility features, especially in day length. I think my favorite part is the change of outfits from the NPCs every season. I can't wait to see the new update and what it has to offer. There's so much more content to enjoy. My few cons: We crashed a couple of times on PC and Steam Deck. Usually when one of us was loading and there was too much stuff going on at once. With no saving midday, it wasted A LOT of our time, and this sucked for parents who only have a few hours to play video games everyday. I know they're adding mid-day saving in the next update. Both multiplayer players needing to get every recipe individually, this wasn't a huge problem until we had to unlock recipes at the lab costing up to 20k each time. Which means double every single time we got a recipe. More main story quests, especially in the winter when there's a bit of a lull. I'm a 'the game has to tell me what to do' kind of person. Finished? No Steam Achievements? Farming Sim - Lots of grinding, lots of hours. Steam Deck? Works great other than aiming for farming and some event minigames being more difficult. Rating? 9.5/10 My curator page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45865425-CozyAriGames/ Full videos on Youtube
After spending over 550 hours in Coral Island, I can confidently say this charming farming simulation deserves far more recognition than it currently receives. From the moment you step onto the island's sun-drenched shores, the game wraps you in a blanket of tranquility that's increasingly rare in today's gaming landscape. The developers have crafted something special here—a world that invites you to slow down, breathe, and simply exist within its beautifully rendered spaces. Whether you're tending to crops at dawn or enjoying a quiet evening by the beach, Coral Island consistently delivers moments of genuine peace and contentment. Furthermore, what sets Coral Island apart from other farming sims is its remarkable attention to storytelling and character development. The narrative doesn't rush; instead, it unfolds naturally as you build relationships with the island's diverse cast of characters. Each NPC feels authentically written, with dialogue that rings true and relationships that develop through meaningful interactions rather than arbitrary gift-giving mechanics. The story writing elevates what could have been a straightforward farm management game into something far more emotionally resonant, making your time on the island feel purposeful and deeply rewarding. Coral Island's visual presentation ranks among the finest in the farming simulation genre. The hand-crafted pixel art style creates an aesthetic that's both nostalgic and contemporary, bridging the gap between classic charm and modern polish. The color palette ranges from vibrant tropical hues to soft, muted tones that create a visual harmony throughout the game. Additionally, the seasonal changes transform the island beautifully, ensuring that the environment remains fresh and engaging no matter how many hours you've invested. Moreover, the atmospheric details deserve special recognition. The ambient soundtrack perfectly complements the relaxing gameplay, while the environmental design encourages exploration and discovery. Every location feels thoughtfully designed, from the cozy farmland to the mysterious caves and bustling market square. The developers understood that creating a genuinely relaxing experience requires attention to sensory details, and they've executed this vision flawlessly throughout the game. Since the game's initial 1.0 release, Coral Island has undergone significant transformations that demonstrate the developers' commitment to refinement and expansion. The differences between the original release and the latest updated release are substantial and meaningful. First and foremost, the developers introduced numerous quality-of-life improvements that streamline farming operations and reduce tedious busywork. These enhancements include better inventory management systems, improved pathing for your character, and more intuitive controls that make navigating the island feel smoother than ever before. Additionally, feature improvements have expanded the game's content library considerably. New marriage candidates arrived, offering players fresh relationship options and unique story arcs to explore. The developers added elaborate seasonal events that create natural stopping points for reflection and celebration, making the passage of time feel more significant. Furthermore, they introduced new farm layouts and customization options, allowing players to personalize their space in ways that weren't previously available. These additions transform the farming experience from repetitive to genuinely engaging. Beyond the gameplay mechanics, the latest updates have introduced expanded exploration areas that reveal more of the island's mysterious depths. New mystery elements encourage players to engage with different aspects of the game, from fishing opportunities to cooking recipes that utilize newly available ingredients. The developers also refined the relationship system itself, making character interactions feel less formulaic and more organic. Most importantly, these improvements maintain the game's core philosophy of relaxation while simultaneously providing sufficient challenge and goals to keep experienced players invested. Well worth the investment of time and money, ESPECIALLY when it's on sale, there's no excuse to avoid this game.

This game is not accessible or even finished. The "inclusiveness" and "diversity" in the game should've extended past the art. The characters are brown. One is nonbinary. The mom you can date has stretch marks. Diversity! Is anyone on the dev team over thirty and have any of them left their parent's house yet? The game crashed several times during normal play. My character would get locked into a dash animation if I got off the horse the wrong way. Events didn't seem to trigger in the correct order. I got caught on tons of geometry. The animations are so slow and if you interrupt them you will be punished. The gameplay is not "inclusive". I have severe executive dysfunction. So much of the game was nearly unplayable when it didn't need to be. I spent most of my time in my inventory trying to sort it out, running between chests, and babysitting artisan equipment. There's a huge variety of items. There's five different qualities of items. Inventory space is extremely limited. I can't look at a screen of equally-sized squares with similar-looking icons differentiated by small, differently colored stars with small numbers to tell me the quantity and figure out what to keep and what to sell and what to throw away and it doesn't help that I am running between chests and constantly switching through menus, unable to remember the information because I'm having difficulty understanding it. Processing artisan goods is it's own annoyance since some items can be preserved, some can be made into juice, and some of that juice and be made into wine! The game does not tell you what can do what, you will have to just run up to the machine and try to remember what can be processed into what. I have trouble remembering my cat's name and love error messages, so it's fun. The horse is just an unpleasant running speed boost that you have to watch a long unmounting and mounting animation that's prone to bugging out if you interrupt it. Which you will because you can't forage or gather while on your horse. Which leaves me the waypoint travel system. I initially liked it, but it makes the island feel small and using it wipes my short-term memory on screen shift. I understand I can't play every game, but these aren't design decisions that aid the game. The game doesn't need five qualities of items, it doesn't need such small inventory, it doesn't need to rely so much on menus and teleporting that are accompanied by disjointed transitions. These are all bad designs baked into the game that only serve to aggravate the player. The writing isn't anything. It's not snappy, it's not cozy, it's not thoughtful. It's filler. It fills the text box so the writer can hit next and move on with their lives. If you didn't have fun writing it, what makes you think I'm going to have fun reading it? The npcs in Animal Crossing live deeper lives than the ones on Coral Island do. Diversity and inclusiveness should be in the writing and the gameplay, not the art. Your character isn't diverse because they're brown or they're a little shy. Giving a character different pronouns than everyone else doesn't cut it. Putting up your little rainbow flag doesn't welcome anyone who wasn't already welcome. The intended "diversity" and "inclusiveness" of the game does more harm than good. The characters aren't people they're just boxes to check off. Uh, we need a gender-neutral. Uh, we need a Mexican. Uh, she's a mom, give her stretch marks so the player feels virtuous for not minding them. The only identity these characters have is the one the artist gave them. Everyone is more-or-less happy. There's no darkness in anyone or anything. The characters generally get along, and if they don't, it's only in that one cutscene. It's not going to carry over to anything else. There's no economic difficulties. There's no mental illness. I don't really even think there's any physical illness. Which could make it cozy if the characters had depth. Sadly, they do not. I'd say they're exactly what they look like, but I don't want to give the writing credit for what the artist did. Seriously, guys, I could've farmed this writing out to ChatGPT and it would've done a better job even with the hallucinations. So it's inclusive and diverse if you're already included. Best kind of inclusiveness if you ask me.
I love Coral Island. It's charming, relaxing, and genuinely fun to play. The farming, town restoration, characters, and overall atmosphere are great. If all I had to judge was the gameplay itself, I'd recommend it without hesitation. Unfortunately, I can't recommend it because of the technical state of the game. My negative review isn't just about crashes. It's about crashes combined with poor optimization and game-breaking bugs that can permanently damage a save file. I've owned the game since before 1.0. I've watched content updates, new systems, multiplayer, romances, and various features get added over the years. Yet crashes remain one of the biggest issues I've experienced. The latest patch introduced manual saves and autosaves, which ended up being the most valuable feature in the update. That alone says a lot. I haven't relied on manual saving this much since games from over a decade ago. I kept playing despite the crashes until one finally caused irreversible damage to my save. During a late-game Giants quest, the game crashed immediately after a cutscene. When I reloaded using the autosave, the required totem could no longer be interacted with, preventing me from continuing the main quest. At that point, the issue stopped being "I lost 30 minutes of progress." It became "I lost hundreds of hours because a crash permanently broke my save." That's what ultimately killed the game for me. Coral Island is a good game buried under technical problems. The content is there. The charm is there. But none of that matters if players risk losing progress or breaking their saves after investing dozens or even hundreds of hours. If you're lucky, you'll only lose 30 minutes to a crash. If you're not, you may lose an entire playthrough. So buy it if you can tolerate constantly losing daily progress because I did too. Till it's no longer daily but the whole save that got lost. Update (July 2): The developers responded to my review and Hotfix 1.3-1248 specifically mentions fixing the autosave progression issue that appears to match the bug I encountered. I appreciate that they acknowledged the reports and released a fix. It doesn't change my own experience, as I had already recovered using an earlier manual save and moved on to other games, but I'm glad to see the game is still actively being maintained. If I return in the future and the game proves to be stable over a longer period of play, I may update this review.
I bought Coral Island back when it had initially "released" out of Early Access. It was pretty rough. There were rewards for finishing bundles that didn't even exist in the game yet. Now, something like two years later, I can honestly say: this is a great game! The devs are attentive and work really hard to continually bring free updates that greatly improve the feel of the game. The mechanics are fun, and yes, it was inspired by Stardew in a lot of areas. There are even similar quests and festivals. BUT the game itself feels completely different. I think they did a wonderful job with the character development - the various romantic options are all excellent! - and the 3D visuals are really well done. The town feels super alive and lived-in. Honestly, I really love this game. I wish they hadn't released 1.0 as early as they did, because the game wasn't ready, but they've now more than made up for it. I strongly recommend this if you're itching for another farming sim with a lot of life and love!
