I’m honestly pretty conflicted about this game. It’s not terrible, but it also frustrated me way more than I expected. Gameplay: The first 10–15 hours were actually really fun hands down. The combat feels satisfying, smashing zombies apart with various weapons like the wolverine claws or maces etc feels great and cool at first, and the gore system is pretty impressive too. But once I reached the later parts of the game, especially the late game or rather endgame, the experience shifted from fun to exhausting real quick. My biggest issue was the nonstop enemy spam. The game constantly throws you a huge groups of zombies at and spawning them nearby without giving you a second to breathe. and It feels like: “Oh, you just killed 10 zombies? Cool, here are 15 more.” And this just keeps on and on More than once I found myself asking: when is enough? When do I get a moment to relax without having to fight my way through 2 dozens enemies or pausing the game? Some quests and areas especially in the SOLA DLC were frustrating. You constantly fight special infected and mutant enemies that can heal themselves, including those giant meat-like boss enemies. At the same time, they grab you, knock you down, or debuff you while you’re already dealing with massive hordes.and the whole thing quickly becomes more stressful than fun. And to be clear I’ve played both Dying Light and Dying Light 2, and while those games have the same setup and also become as much as chaotic, they at least give you options. by cllimbing buildings, so you can escape danger, take a breather, and plan your next move. In Dead Island 2, running away usually just leads you straight into another group of enemies "sigh". Story: The story didn’t do much for me either. Before playing, I had already heard and read that the story was trashy and after finishing the game I honestly agree. i certainly didn't mind that the game never took itself seriously or never really tried to have an serious tone but For example, there are side quests where you lure zombies with rave music to clobber them while someone livestreams the whole thing. It’s creative, sure, but also pretty ridiculous. After a while I completely lost interest and started skipping most of the dialogue in both the main story and side quests just to get this over with. The ending was pretty lame and questioning I don’t mind open endings when they’re done well, but here it just ended that much abrupt that made me sit there thinking “wait… that’s it? Multiplayer: One thing I was actually excited for was the multiplayer because I remember having lots of fun with Dead Island 1 running together with 3 other players it sure was nice But despite the game supposedly still having an active player base, I only once had someone join my game even though I regularly had my sessions open for hours. Final Verdict: To sum it up: the first few hours are genuinely fun and cool, but once the game starts leaning heavily into endless combat encounters, the excitement fadds pretty quickly and it becomes too exhausting. The biggest positive for me was definitely the price. I bought the complete edition with all DLCs for $7, and for that price it’s hard to complain so I’m just glad that i was patient and picked it up during a huge sale instead of paying the full price. Paying around $50 for just the base game as it's now? Personally, I don’t think it’s worth for that price not even close.
It's not a burning hatred, but it's not far off. Adored the first game, jank and all. But this is on another level. A lot of the issues I have with this game can be summed up by "quality of life". It's repetitive, regularly going backwards and forwards over the same areas, fighting the same zombies over and over again. A lot of the loot system revolves around finding locked boxes that you don't have the keys for, doors that need a fuse or other doors that need the entire circuit breaker box replacing. You're constantly running backwards and forwards over the same area, having to fight everything again but this time you have a key! There is a LOT of filler. Open world... It isn't. The map is made up of small areas that you need to load into. It's not an open world game. Not sure how they got away with marketing it as such. Feels very PS2. Jank. Like, not a bit. But a lot. Characters just don't do what you want them to do, when you want them to do it. It feels like the game queues up action inputs. But that doesn't work in a combat game. Run, attack but need to block? Not a chance, going to swing another two times first because you spammed attack. It's... Frustrating. Basic abilities are locked until hours into the game. It didn't give me the "ability card" to freaking dodge until FOUR HOURS into the game. In that time, you come up against many enemies who's attacks can't be blocked. You just die again, and again and again. With no counter play. There are a lot of very basic abilities that you take for granted in games that the game gives you as these ability cards. It's just more filler. Everything is very scripted. Things only open when the game want's them too, it's incredibly linier. You have to take a set path, to a set checkpoint and open things in a set way. This is by no means an exploration game. Combat: It's janky, but not just that. Like i said above, you don't get "abilities" until the game wants you to have them, which is fine if they're bufs, but they aren't. Actions seem to queue, meaning its incredibly difficult to be reactive, because the game just feels like it wasn't set up that way. The character talks like it's a fun slasher, and the visuals mirror this, but the combat does not. You don't feel powerful. The only combat loop I found that worked at all was to jump kick, knock down, hit, run away and repeat. You spend a LOT of time running away. At no point could I stand toe to toe with even a weaker zombie and come out of it without having to use a health kit. There are honestly many, many more things about this game that I found incredibly frustrating. But I've had enough of writing. Got to seven hours, things weren't getting any better. The zombies were scaling way faster than my abilities and character, so I'm having to write it off. P.S. The campaign storyline sucks too. Incredibly boring and the decisions your character makes, make no sense. You have no choice in any of this, non. No dialog options, opinions or decisions you get to make. Like i said, it's incredibly linier. I just wouldn't.

I came for the zombies and stayed for the fun. Dead Island 2 has some of the most satisfying melee combat I've ever played. The gore system is insane, the environments are gorgeous, and the game never takes itself too seriously. Just pure zombie-killing fun done right.
As a person who 100% completed this game, I can confidently say that mindless zombie killing is fun. Pros: -Graphical and gameplay improvement from the old games -Intresting and fun chracters that you can choose from -Intresting side characters (Except one of you, see you in the cons section -_-) -Fury mode is good and balanced (it has been nicknamed "Furry mode" by us.. mostly cause we can't read, and also "Beast mode") -Co-op makes the game more fun and also more challanging at the same time -The gore is top notch Cons: -Amanda -*spoiler warrning* The fact that there is the same trope that is used in Dying Light 1 where you have to assist someone to escape... and he leaves without you, we did at the school with Crane why do it again? -The combat is sluggish and unfair sometimes -Some bosses are just bullet sponges especially on ng+ and in one of the dlcs -The story was kinda bad at best. -The butcher enemy type -The antagonist was forgetabble at best. -Countless bugged achievements that ruined progression -Achievement popping super delayed, taking up to 5 minutes before you recive it. ~Haus* Pros: -The dark atmosphere and design -The zombies re-design Cons: -Confusing to navigate -Too short to really enjoy what is happening -Bugged achievements for co-op ~Sola* Pros: -The Ripper weapon Cons: -The insane difficulty spike from the original game (even at max level) -The new map itself is convoluted and empty -The story itself was meh -The clotter and whipper enemy varients are too anoying, the clotter is better ignored and ran past than actually foguht. -The final bossfight was the single most annoying thing in the entire game, not only is a bullet sponge and takes 5 dmg per hit but he also has 5 diffrent phases, 5 long boring and annoying phases, took us over 40 minutes to defeat him (only died once or twice it just takes 30 minutes at least to kill) -Bugged achievements Overall the main game is good-ish, I would say fun rather than good, it does get annoying quickly later on in the game but if you stay and enjoy the content and the stuff the game has it is good, unless you want to speedrun this (which we did on ng+ and it took us 3 hours from start to finish.. well the scientist boss fight took us 1 hours) Overall I recommend this game to be played but if you want to do the DLCs for 100% good luck!
I played the first Dead Island ages ago, I still remember having really a great time playing it. As a metal head that loves Cannibal Corpse and the likes, I did turned down music in game and played the whole thing listening a band called Ajattara, It felt suitable AF. I feel Dead Island 2 is the same but better storylines, better sound but still I listen my Metal instead. Graphics are good but also were in Dead Island 1 so I cannot say there is a real improvement there. Gameplay is great, there is this mouse accelaration that is ridiculous, but I solve it by maxing mouse sensibility and put back to where I play best, at 1k setting. The gore is really good in this one, and the rewards feel even better when you advance in game. Overall, after all these years from it´s launch, the game holds really fantastic today if you ask me. Definitly get it on promotion, is cheap and got hours upon hours of entertainment.
The game gets stuck on launch while trying to connect to the Epic services. You can get past it by disabling your internet connection, but that's not really a fix in my eyes. Too bad. I played the game on consoles and it was quite fun, but I'm not willing to put up with such a simple, apparently well-known issue in a game that was released two years ago.
✈️ Despite the fans' love, the franchise has had a rough ride. However, this sequel proves that there’s always room for improvement. The cast of playable characters here is largely made up of the cringiest stereotypes from the last decade (though this is forgivable, much like the over-the-top, comical badassery). The gameplay is addictive and fun, thanks to a range of intuitive actions and solid weaponry. The environments are excellent, while the level design and pacing strike the right balance to keep things fresh. Looting, exploration, and progression are all handled well without being overly complicated. It also delivers a satisfying dose of zombie horror-action. Even the DLC adds its own touch of madness to the lore. They also worked wonders with UE4; the game runs smoothly and looks great even on relatively modest hardware. It was a long wait, but the result certainly doesn't disappoint.
Awful experience with boring, repetitive gameplay. I bought it at a highly discounted price, but it was still too tedious and boring to justify itself. After 3 hours I figured out that all I have to look forward to is increasing a bunch of numbers and maybe getting different weapons. The zombies don't get more interesting to fight as they just turn into damage sponges as your level increases. The story is a bunch of obnoxious stereotyped characters sending you from one end of the map to the other, though sometimes they are funny. The performance was surprisingly poor and I couldn't get consistent frames no matter what I did with the settings (I don't have the most powerful setup, but it should have been able to get consistent performance) The graphical fidelity of the game is quite good, though I wasn't able to enjoy it due to the poor performance.
The autosave timing choice in this game is idiotic. Saves when you die, so you restart behind the 8 ball - without any of the healthpacks you had the first time around. If I couldn't do it with health, how the hell am I meant to do it without them?
