Game wont be for everyone but I can definitely recommend it if you are into old shooter horror games and want to scratch that dino crisis itch. Game offers some options like choosing modern or classic tank controls and theres modifiers you can unlock like infinite ammo. Ive been playing on the steam deck and its been fine. If you go in with a cynical mindset it'll probably be a little harder to get into the game but if you want that real old school classic horror then this could be worth a purchase.
Early impressions review: got this on a whim to have a “spooky” game for October. So far the atmosphere works to get you in that zone, but it also has that old school cheese factor to keep things light. It really leans into the retro horror design with inventory management, limited saving, the whole deal. I appreciate there being different view options (first person, over the shoulder, or classic fixed camera view). I played around with each one for a bit; it really changes the vibe of the game so I’d recommend trying them to see what works best for you. I’ve been playing on Steam Deck and so far haven’t run into any issues with performance.
I've never played Resident Evil, Dino Crisis, or anything relevant to this, and I still had a great time. Very interesting to balance the limited inventory. Being murdered by a T-Rex/10
I wanted to like this game but... I own all outbreak games and at first they had some promise, but nowadays these games are just broken, buggy and just lazy cashgrabs. Performance is terrible. Even with 4090 fps drops below 30 in outside areas. In game that looks like its ps3 game. Instead of repacking and releasing same buggy mess developer should just have polished and published one good game. But instead they rather publish same game dozen of times. Technically outbreak series are different games, but in reality its just same broken game slightly repackaged. Same graphics, same mechanics, same environments, same ui, even some maps / rooms are same in different games. Whenever someone criticizes outbreak games developer keep using same defence: "we are small developer team". So? There are several other resident evil clones that are made by small -2 people teams that are way more polished than any ourbreak game. Instead of republishing same broken game 10 times that 50 same people keep buying developer should polish one game so 10 000 people would buy that.
First off I own this game for both Xbox Series X and Steam at the moment, but most of my playtime is on the Xbox Version. This is by far the best game by Dead Drop Studios so far. I still find it amazing that a small indie dev (with one designer/programmer) is capable of making a game with as much charm as it has. This is their last foray into the retro survival horror genre and it is a blast, literally (Pew Pew, the game is very generous with ammo and supplies). The map design is great and environmental story telling is superb. This is the most accessible game they've made so far, yet fun for all skill levels. This game is great and I dino what else to tell you. 🦖🦖🦖
Preliminary Thoughts

"Dinobreak" brings us back to the world that we experienced in Contagious Memories - except, instead of the threat of zombies, we're dealing with dinosaurs. If you've played through Outbreak:CM, you're going to be familiar with many of the earlier levels (with my sub-1 hour playthrough so far, at least). I've encountered a few dinos - from raptors to a T-Rex. Dead Drop Studios does what they always do: try to trick the player into exhausting their seemingly limitless resources. Spoiler: They're not limitless. (haha). It's nice to come back to one of Dead Drop Studio's games, even if it is a little bit of a new spin on it. I would like to see what they can pull off with more resources and a higher budget for a game like Dinobreak. As it stands, it's still fun and brings back the threat of dinosaurs (of all things).
Other Thoughts

One of the first reviews call this an "asset flip," which is objectively false. While the starting environment is the same as Contagious Memories, they're not "flipped assets" (as the actual definition of it). I do think people are too quick to make some soft commentary without playing the game with more thought behind it. If you've played and enjoyed any of Dead Drop Studio's previous games, you'll definitely will like this one. It captures the "cheesy early survival horror" tone to the game with the voice overs.
SURVIVAL HORROR WITH A SIDE OF CHEESE, PLEASE!
Dead Drop Studios' newest title in their repertoire does exactly what it sets out to do: deliver a fun, ableit cheesy and (purposefully, charmingly) antiquated revival of dinosaur survival horror! Every moment will take you back to a simpler time in the industry- from the voice over to the puzzle solving, REAL survival horror fans ought to take a look!
Such fun! A perfect nod to 90s era survival horror. If you like the Resident Evil series, the Outbreak series, or all things dinosaur, this game is for you. My favourite part of the game is the over-the-top cheesy voice over acting; it made me happy. The only thing I would change is the limited inventory space but I can see how others would appreciate the extra challenge.
I intended to give it a try for 5 minutes and next thing I knew it was 40 minutes later. I died 4 times and then discovered the clue I needed was right by my feet the whole time! The humorously stiff models during dialogue, story in notes found around the world and the slower paced action pay wonderful homage to 1990s games I was too scared to play as a kid (but now I wish I did). If this game is your style there's fun to be had. I've enjoyed my time so far. I'll be sure to update my review once I've had more time to play.
I’m having a great time with the game - got it on PS5, and now Steam to have it on the go for an upcoming trip. I recommend playing around with the difficulties and see what works best for you. I found it a good idea to start with Assisted, learn the ropes of how the controls and aiming works and then if you want go back on the other difficulties. I really like how there are a TON of points-based unlocks, there’s a bonus action mode, etc. Ultimately I recommend the game for people wanting to play an old school survival horror game that truly takes “old school” seriously. There are also multiple endings and survivors that you can save or not, which is what I’m going to explore after finishing a first run on Assisted!
