Very fun game. I don't care about the reviews complaining about the "jank and cheese". That's part of the charm. The original Resident Evil was even worse and people still love the series. I love what I've played so far, can't wait to play more, and can't already wait for a potential sequel.
Just starting to play this game and honestly it looks really good for a retro inspired game. I set all of my visual setting max/high, insane and went with the fixed camera angle and assisted difficulty level as I haven't played this type of game in quite sometime. I also get motion sick from high speed first person view so having settings to make things better is a huge plus. I am getting killed a lot so this game isn't a pushover but that's part of the fun. I see myself having hours of fun figuring out how to survive and that's what what this genre is all about in my opinion. This game knows what it is and doesn't take things too seriously. If you want some good old fashioned Dino killin mayhem then this is the game for you. Multiple play scenarios also is a plus. Definitely worth my $16.
Awesome game inspired by Dino Crisis. If you love kicking dinosaur butt (and who doesn't?), this game is for you. The love the developer has for the genre can be felt throughout the game.
If you´ve played Outbreak Contagious Memory i wouldn´t recommend to pay the full price. The game itself is ok, but to short. In my opinion it should be an Addon for O:CM and not be sold as a single game. If you can get it with 60% off it would be fair enough.
This is awesome! I really enjoyed Contagious Memories and it's pretty cool to see a Dinosaur take on the story! Those dinosaur footstep coming to you is very nerve wracking. The pacing is good so far and very curious to see where the story is going.
PROVISIONAL REVIEW - It's EGGS, lads! Dino Eggs, to be precise! I've only started playing this game, but developer Dead Drop have promised cheese, and by all first impressions, cheese they have delivered! This stinks (in a good way) of late night American nineties supernatural thrillers - Forever Knight, Space Precinct, Invasion Earth... Weird acid greens and luminous purple-blues fight with burning wrecks to illuminate a city wracked by Dinosaurs and EGGS. Characters drone their lines with all the drama of a direct-to-VHS shlock horror, which actually manages to add to the charm...! As expected from Dead Drop (primarily a single-person developer, which is frankly incredible!), they've provided every option possible for a game like this. That means a wide variety of view options, including my beloved Fixed Multicam angles! Special note goes to how BEAUTIFUL their painted artwork is! Really phenomenal key art! Gameplay is a little awkward at first, but I'm looking forward to exploring more and providing a more in-depth review in the future! I'll rewrite this when I've had a chance to play a little more...!
So this game is absolute garbage. The combat loop of the dinosaurs falling down and getting back up while you shoot them is dumb. The graphics look way to clean for a horror game, the character models look terrible, the animations are stiff, physics are wacky like random props vibrate violently until you touch them then they go flying, and the voice acting is terrible and sounds like text to speech program with every female character having the same voice actress. But the game controls and plays like old school Resident Evil and Dino Crisis 1 and has dinosaurs so 10 out of 10 would recommend. Just don't except an actual good game with a lot of play time.
Survival? Check. Horror? Check. Retro? Check. Jank? DOUBLE Check! If you're expecting this homage to retro survival horror not to have that familiar jank, you're in the wrong place. Instead, jump into this like it's 1999 and you're still throwing those black discs into a PlayStation. The team at Dead Drop has put together something special with Dinobreak, and if that retro jankiness survival horror is your jam you'll feel right at home here.
Dinobreak tries to be a campy version of a Resident-Evil type game, but it misses the mark purely because of the overall mechanics and design. That and the horrible, horrible load times. If you've ever played Resident Evil, then you know what to expect. The game is at times kind of funny and deliberately bad, but that's not enough to mask some of the horrible and repetitive game design mechanics that bog the whole thing down into mediocrity. Since the game is made in Unity, you can expect the mechanics to be a little wonky. In particular, before I figured out how to switch to first person mode, the game was unplayable, After Resident Evil, Capcom made a game called Dino Crisis, which is this is essentially kind of a half parody of. The game plays itself serious, but there are a lot of self-referential jokes referring to how stupid it is. Dino Crisis wasn't a critically loved game largely because dinosaurs and survival horror don't really mix. Especially these dinosaurs, since they aren't very menacing and usually look bored. When they bite into you it just looks funny since they have these cold, dead eyes and just stare at you. Sometimes they don't even attack and you just see them standing there looking bored. There is one particularly funny part where you open a door and the main character simply remarks with a bored attitude that there are some giant spiders in the alleyway. She seems very casual about it. The only thing that's really good about this game is the music, since the entire thing sounds like an early era Resident Evil save room theme. The graphics have this weird purple hue that reminds me of Saint's Row. And some of these dinosaurs attacking you are gentle herbivores that I feel bad about killing. I mean really, of all the dinosaurs you could fight, why on earth did they choose a slow moving, docile triceratops? The dinosaurs all have the same programming, the only thing that differs is their movement speed and size, so you essentially are only fighting one enemy the entire game. The puzzles are kind of fun, but there are one too many "find the access code" segments. I almost want to recommend it because the ambiance and the puzzles are reminiscent of classic PS1 games. But really the main reason I don't recommend the game is the load times. Each time you open a door, the game goes to a load screen that can last anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. This alone would not be so bad but many times you are just trying to backtrack to a connecting hallway and it takes a full five minutes to cross three rooms because of the load screens. Resident Evil: Survivor had some lengthy load screens but the game masked it with an animation showing the character moving through a door. I've never seen load times this bad in a modern game, and since it's made in Unity, that just tells me it was poorly coded and compiled. It should've been designed to load in three or four rooms at once so you only have to face one load screen instead of four. With all of that said, the game is still decent at aping Resident Evil and could be thought of as a discount Resident-Evil style game. But with the myriad problems of those games combined with the horrendous load times, along with the fact that I 100% completed the whole thing about three hours, I really can't see a reason to recommend this other than maybe if you really want to play a mediocre parody of a classic survival horror game.
SUPER JANKY CONTROLLERS. both on controller and mouse and keyboard. Smells like a bad old ps1 pc port.
