Dinobreak is a lazy and low effort title. I'm shocked they are even charging money for it. As someone who owns all of Drop Dead Studios games, this is the first time I felt compelled to leave a negative review and request a refund. I know it's basically a 2 man dev team but you guys should be ashamed of yourselves for charging people this much for a glorified mod. This is literally just an asset flip of their previous game "Contagious Memories", from the character models, levels, EXACT locations etc. Not to mention they couldn't even be arsed to create a new UI, menus, sound effects and more for a new IP. Your games won't ever grow or garner an audience if you continue to put out poor cash grabs like this.
This game is difficult to like. On paper. it seems like a great time, but the execution is awful. Every movement is awkward and janky. The combat loop makes no sense(shoot enemy, they lay down, they stand back up. Repeat until dead). The load times are ridiculously long for an old game, let alone a new one. I'm all for the campy goodness of 90's Survival Horror, and imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but only if it's done well. Unfortunately, Dinobreak wasn't done well.
This game is just not a good game. It feels junky, the items positions feels like they are random, oh and the size of the items on the field is just insane, like the ammunition boxes that are way bigger than the character's head lfmao. There's a lack of animation when the character is low on HP, the eggs are not a good idea, or at least it's not well made. The voice acting is "meh", i could have had kind of a cheesy charm but no. The level design and chara design are not good, the music is generic as hell... It feels like Dino Crisis and Resident Evil 3 mixed, but not very well. I really felt like I was playing the alpha version of the game. Except it's not. It's too bad cause the idea of playing a Dino Crisis like is soooo awesome, but unfortunately the game is far from it. I love playing low budget survival horror games, but this one is really not enjoyable. I would have loved to like this game.
This game is fundamentally flawed, from the reused menus and character models, to the janky and unfun gameplay, instead of actually Taking inspiration from dino crisis, this game reuses the city setting from previous games. Dino eggs are gigantic and they “hatch” fully grown dinos, the load times for every single door are atrocious. There has been absolutely no effort put into the game whatsoever with them even still using the same inventory and menu templates from their very first game in 2017, if you’re looking for a game like Dino crisis wait for compound fracture or Dino trauma instead of wasting your money and time on this game
Fairly jank game. Controls felt scuffed, but after messing around in settings I found a decent option. Game is very much inspired by Resident Evil 2, but throws ammo at you like Resident Evil 4. There are like 5 different dinosaurs and a few random dogs/spiders thrown in there too, but they all act the same. They run at you just to get shot and sometimes they will randomly get back up like a zombie. I do have to say one of the highlights for the game is the dialogue/voice acting. I don't know if it is ironically bad or if it really is just bad. Most of the dialogue is just "Oh f*** more dinosaurs...why are there so many f***ing dinosaurs in this f***ing city" in the most monotone voice ever. Game is also fairly short. I can see most people beating it in under 2 hours. 5/10 EDIT: Looking back at my saved game I was playing on Easy. I actually didn't know there were different difficulty options. I appreciate the devs for taking feedback and hopefully improving upon their game.
This is a game made by a single developer, which is pretty cool that that's even possible. It's not a AAA title made by a team of a hundred people, but if you're looking for an homage to old games like Dino Crisis or Resident Evil, give this a spin.
⭐🌑🌑🌑🌑 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3464212338
This is a preliminary review. When this game was announced, I was very excited for it because we don't have many games that are inspired by Dino Crisis and/or Resident evil 3 on the market. I, personally, see this as a spinoff of Outbreak Contagious Memories as it seems to share characters and envrionmental assets with that game. I would recommend this game only to fans of old school survival horror with limited inventory and backtracking. I do applaud the developer fo adding an Assisted mode that gives you a ton of items to help in your Item Box. However, I wish your personal inventory had more slots. There is also crafting which is inspired for Resident Evil 3. Although there are 3 camera perspectives, it seems that the game was primarily designed around the Fixed Camera view. I would recommend using a controller. It has taken some time to get used to the tank controls. I am hoping that since the developer is switching to UE5 for their next games, the character controller will be much more flexible and work better in Over-The-Shoulder and First person perspectives. I have not delved into the bonus modes yet. However, I might just do that to unlock infinite ammo. There seems to be a variety of dinosaurs in the game that I haven't encountered yet so I cannot comment much on that yet. Even though I have some criticisms, I will leave a positive review because I want to support this developer, and I am excited for his future Unreal Engine games since he has been addressing criticism and taking feedback. I am just glad that they are migrating from old and busted Unity. I really want this game redone in Unreal Engine using all of the work done so far for Outbreak: Shade of Horror kickstarter. Some recommendations for future updates and future games: 1. A detailed tutorial which introduces the various gameplay mechanics such as crafting and a shooting range to get used to the controls a bit more before venturing out 2. Subitiles for dialogue and audio for journal entries even if it is just Natural text-to-speech 3. Better, more flexible, character controller 4. Ragdolls for when dinosaurs are killed instead of them just slumping over 4. Less bloom in Levels. It has been somehwat toned down from Outbreak contagious memories, though 5. More inventory slots and less backtracking (I know I know, it is survival horror, but it can be tedious) 6. Better Menu system. I was intimidated by all of the Options. I would recommend more sub-menus so that I users won't get so overwhelmed.
Dinobreak inspired from Dino Crisis with voice actress reminds me of Lara Croft. Story is ok but nothing exciting. Really hope it would be good but it's just okay. Game mechanics similar to Dino Crisis find a code/ find a tool/ find a key so on. Basic puzzles. Gameplay is rough, dinos will stay bugged in positions for target practice. Element of crafting inspired from Resident Evil. Atmosphere for horror lacking, not really scary. Dinobreak give 5/10 All I can say is replay Dino Crisis or wait for this list dino games release hopefully soon: The Lost Wild, Instinction, Project Ferocious & Deathground. Leave my thoughts on Dino Crisis Dino Crisis so many great memories, playing on PS1. Lore of the game is breathtaking, story is rich from start to finish. Story focuses on the Third Energy, brings dinosaurs to the island via rift in space time. Lead scientist Dr. Edward Kirk worked on the Third Energy, runs facility on the island. Island goes dark. SORT send a team, secure Third Energy data, where you play as beautiful Regina. Try to solve the mystery & survive the nightmare. Survival horror plays part great, especially when you meet your first Velociraptor, many more throughout the game. Puzzles great feature, made game feel more real than just a shooter game. Moment Tyrannosaurus Rex Breaks Window, sense of shock & surprise; scene is amazing, as didn't see it coming. T. Rex hunts you through the game, was awesome. Have a choice later on with four possible endings. #ReturnDinoCrisis Dino Crisis still to this day is my favourite game. Capcom we need three things original listed on Steam, remastered version & new Dino Crisis Game; takes place after the events of Dino Crisis 2 with Regina. Rather have a rich story with survival horror element, made Dino Crisis unique, than another shooter game. Set you at ease
I'm just getting started in the game, but I can definitely feel classic 90s survival in this game. I can feel the love for that era and all it means. This is a true retro style game in that they don't put modern gameplay styles in here. If you love that era and like going back and playing them, then this is definitely a game for you. Only criticism I have at this point is that the menus can be a bit intimidating with all the options on them.
