On a first playthrough Deathloop is an absolute joy to play from start to finish. Figuring out how to kill all the targets in a single loop is the main focus of the game, along the way you will interact with the different characters and adversaries in your way. The best part was by far the dynamic between the two main characters of Colt and Juliana, both of the voice actors give some of the best perfomances I have seen. Their interactions were some of my favourite moments of the game. The problem lies with the fact that after a first playthrough the game becomes pretty baren and empty, the only real method of going through again is by following the path the game wants. Pretty disappointing for a timeloop game. This is made worse by the fact that this is made by Arkane, the makers of Dishonored. Which was one of the most replayable series out there. If you intend on only playing one I think it is worth getting on sale, if not then I'd pass for another.
a gem that will forever carry the burden of a bad launch
If it's on sale, definitely get it! Fantastic game, I loved the merging of FPS gameplay with a nice story and good puzzle-solving elements. It felt a little clunky until i got used to it, but then it was super fun to play. I don't like the online mode, however- at least not as an invading player. The P2P matchmaking has you rubber-banding around at the host PC's whims. In most games as an invader, it's almost unplayable, even if you have excellent internet.
Another Day Another Loop
The Positive's + Multiple Playstyles + Cool Multiplayer Versus Mode + Unique Weapons & Upgrades The Negative's - Minor Glitches The Aspect Of The Game You play as Colt Vahn the potential breaker of the loop who is stuck on an island stuck in a time loop that rewinds the day every single day. Your goal is break this cursed loop and get off the damn island. Or play as Julianna Blake the protector of the loop who's job is to keep Colt from breaking it. My Two Cent Review You know I have had this game in my library for the longest time but just never bothered to play it. Bethesda and online games never usually mix and the fact that it had any online capabilities is what originally kept me from playing it. I was tired of being disappointed with Bethesda's online usual slop but this one was different. The campaign was fun and kind of felt like a love child of Dishonored with abilities and play styles you can choose from. The story has to be pieced together in the duration of multiple loops which will take you quite some time. There are puzzles in the game but there not hard to do if you pay attention to your surroundings. Every major character you have to kill to break the loop has a pattern that they stick too which makes them very predictable once you fight them enough times it's child's play. Julianna is an interesting mechanic that may come to stop you every now and then depending what your online settings are. I've played with a friend here and there using that mechanic and it is fun. Even unlocks new clothing cosmetics you can choose from. The story kept me going and the interactions between the protagonist and antagonist. Gunplay was decent when it was needed and the powers can be a overpowered if you know what to combine with what. With every loop you get stronger and can upgrade your weapons and powers for the next loop if you didn't die of course during your loop and lost everything you wasn't able to save. The two main playstyles you'll be using is run & gun or stealth stabbing your way to victory with powers or a mix of the two never hurts anyone when the need arises... well it hurts everyone but you. The game is well polished with the exception of getting stuck if you jump in some strange places but besides that I haven't crashed nor have I had to reload an area except for one time so it's runs pretty good. The Value Of The Game This would be good 25 dollar game. I don't think it's worth the full price of (59.99$ listed price as of this review) simply because first of the servers aren't going to be around forever since the only multiplayer functionality is a simple versus mode. Secondly you only get a dozen or so hours outta this game and once you get one of the three endings there really isn't much more for this game.
Final Score 78/100 Ranking C+ Tier
You're going to hate this game until you don't
fun gameplay loop interesting story subpar ending.
Liked the game when it came out. Now its unplayable.
