Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell.

A very solid game that still manages to stand out years later, largely thanks to War himself. He's an incredibly cool protagonist with a great design, interesting lore, and a presence that carries the entire experience. The story is solid and kept me interested throughout the game, especially if you enjoy apocalyptic settings and the mythology surrounding the Four Horsemen. Combat is satisfying as well, though it definitely takes some time to master. Once everything starts to click, chaining abilities and combos feels rewarding. That said, the game isn't without its flaws. Some of the puzzles overstay their welcome and can become tedious, and certain areas suffer from level design that feels dated. Grinding weapon levels and unlocking skills can also be more time-consuming than it's worth, especially if you're aiming for completion. The camera can be frustrating at times and occasionally interfered with combat, throwing off combos during hectic encounters. I also ran into a few bugs, mostly crashes and instances where I got stuck. Boss fights are a bit of a mixed bag too—some are memorable, but the final boss in particular felt underwhelming for a game that builds up to such a large conflict. Looking forward to playing the rest of them - pulled the trigger to play them after buying a figure of Death - def need one of War now!
one of the best hack&slash games
7/10. big potential for big franchise
I really wanted to like this game because of nostalgia but ill first say what i like. the voice acting, the character designs and the lore of the franchise is really good but for this game this is where the positives stop. Now we move to the bad. the level design is filled with tedious puzzles and obnoxious backtracking with a slow walk speed and even when u get your horse after the 3 boss, there are still wide open spaces that ud think u can use your horse but you cant. the "fast travel" worm passages arent really that much faster but u take what u can get. the combat in this game is fine even its just general hack and slash stuff. i appreciate the many weapons to use like the gauntlets and the scythe but by the end of the game i just used the sword cuz i was tired. the bosses are really hit or miss. They are ether piss easy or tedious as hell. for the sake of nostalgia i would recommend this game but aside from that, i would pass on it
