If you are a PC player, the hate is warranted. They released a PC version that makes you do research and download mods that break the EULA if you want to use mouse and keyboard. Even after you spend and hour or two figuring this out, the mouse sensitivity will need to be tweaked via your mouse drivers(because the in-game setting is ridiculous) and will never feel right. Controller is only superior if you are playing a flight sim or game with driving in it like GTA so you can utilize the advantages of the joystick so that you don't have to(for example): rapidly tap right to turn slowly instead of cranking it all the way. In Dark Souls, you have the 360 degree angles via your mouse movement and it's way faster/better in every way in this type of game, unless you are laid back on a couch, but this is a PC port... apparently. I just beat DS1 on mouse/keyboard and loved it. I'm not used to this kind of game on a controller but this basically forces you. I'm used to being able to move the camera or change weapons while running, this game makes it impossible on controller. Some buttons are used for 3 or more functions, like: tapping B is roll/dodge. Holding B is sprint. Holding B to sprint is required to jump by pushing in left joystick. This makes it near impossible to customize the controls to how you want it. Also, settings are abysmal in general, not just key mapping. There's no way to change that insane UI scale that is meant for 720p. There's literally 3 things in "screen" settings, including blood settings and brightness. It's absolutely terrible. I think that's the main reason why this game is such utter trash; the PC-port that did nothing more than make sure it runs. I immediately noticed how far-off it is from DS1, it's bright, there are tons of friendly NPCs around etc. What absolute trash. Clearly released off the back of DS1 to cash in. It sucks, I was looking forward to this after DS1. This is the first time I regret dismissing all the warnings about a game. I beat DS1 2x after my blind playthrough, loved it. I don't think I'll be making it through this one, I would refund it if I could. And yes, I gave it a good try with my favorite controller, I have multiple, they are not a foreign thing to me, I been gaming for 31 years now. And I plan to give it more time today with(the only real option here) controller but it's really making me angry. It's impossible to turn the cam to either; look at scenery(the game) as you run from one place to the next or turn the cam to see what's behind as you fight something. Completely stupid.
Melhor Souls
in my eyes no game deserves a positive review if it needs the most basic QOL features modded in to make it more savourable (working side mouse buttons + keyboard tooltips instead of console + custom keybinds). it just speaks volumes on dev's incompetence and disconnect from the fanbase (waiting on bloodborne pc port, year: 16). mind you, scholar of the first sin is supposed to be like a definitive edition of DS2, yet the port still sucks. reminds me of Nioh 1, though that one's considerably worse. I'm not one of the DSR supremacists, it has many flaws too, but i must say that after 100 hours of DSR, DS2SotFS plays like a fanmade game. for all intents and purposes, i got used to its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ after 20 hours, and you will too most likely, and I'm planning to finish it, but don't expect me to touch it until the "play through all dark souls again" itch starts eating me alive.
