Castle Story is a simple real-time strategy game, in which you give orders to these little yellow-stone creatures called Bricktons, with the objective to build grand structures (Sandbox), defend your crystal against the endless invading Corruptrons (Survival) or capture their corrupted crystals (Conquest). The building system is actually not that bad, focusing completely on stone bricks and wooden platforms. The combat is pretty simplistic, with a few craftable equipments sets with upsides and downsides, even if the game is balanced to only handle 15 maximum population. The tech progression is also very simple: chop trees, make boards in stump, make stockpiles, mine stone and ores, build furnace, smelt iron with brimstone, make weapons and better structures. The whole game seems like an idea that could have been expanded upon. However, since it was abandoned in 2018, the game has been left with a few bugs, memory leak problems and very unoptimized; at least it left beta and is an actual game, unlike many other concepts and games out there. The steam workshop has potential to give this game a little bit more life, but otherwise, it is a game that really needs your input to make it fun. That has not stopped me from having fun though. In memoriam: Pandora and Rankor - My two Warriors that took on a giant and fifteen corruptrons to save the arbalests Leya - My healer that sacrificed his life to protect the arbalests against the evil Witch Now, for the achievements: Can be done in 3 saves if you have a great PC and you're lucky, otherwise, 7 to 13: 1. Survive until wave 60 in survival mode by spamming sentry wards near the crystal and using bricks to make "sandbags" to slow the movement of the corruptrons; 2. Defeat the corruptrons in Conquest Lights Out by defending your base and then rushing them with 2 Warriors, 1 Healer and as many Arbalests you can get. This is the best strategy; 3. Do a bunch of saves to make Bougre spawn (random name between 277, 0.36%, good luck) 4. In those saves, hopefully in Arecibo, mine with quarries and tunnels and make the ground look like cement by placing bricks all over the place, until you get the 100000 bricks placed (took me 4 saves, could be more for you if the memory leak gets too intense). In this map I was able to get 2500 every 4 hours, so it's not something you can do in a weekend.
Castle Story, developed by Sauropod Studio, is a unique blend of voxel-based sandbox building and real-time strategy that invites players to manage a colony of adorable yellow creatures called Bricktrons. First released in Early Access and later launched in full on Steam, the game tasks players with constructing elaborate castles, defending against enemy invasions, and managing resources on floating islands suspended in the sky. While it draws inspiration from classic god games and RTS titles, Castle Story establishes its own identity through its distinct art style, slow-paced but rewarding gameplay, and an emphasis on creativity and survival. The heart of Castle Story lies in its building system, which allows for detailed and fully customizable fortresses made from individual blocks. Players can place every brick, stair, wall, and window with precision, leading to a real sense of ownership and accomplishment as castles gradually take shape. The voxel-based engine enables impressive structural flexibility, and the visual feedback is clear and satisfying as Bricktrons scurry around assembling your grand designs. However, building is not merely aesthetic—defensive strategy is a key element, as enemy waves (known as Corruptrons) periodically attack, testing both your structural planning and your ability to mobilize defenses effectively. Resource management is another core mechanic. Players must gather stone, wood, and other materials using the Bricktrons, assigning them to specific jobs such as mining, logging, construction, and crafting. The job system is intuitive, and watching the Bricktrons carry out their tasks is both endearing and satisfying. While there’s a peaceful charm to the early stages of managing your workforce and slowly expanding your fortress, things quickly become more complex as players must balance labor, defend against increasingly difficult enemies, and maintain efficient workflows. It’s a careful balancing act that rewards forethought and adaptability, though it can sometimes feel sluggish for players used to more fast-paced strategy games. Combat in Castle Story adds a layer of urgency to the otherwise tranquil construction process. Players can equip Bricktrons with a variety of weapons and armor, forming squads to defend chokepoints or launch counterattacks. Combat is relatively simple in terms of mechanics—there’s no micromanagement during battles—but tactical planning, such as where to place archers or bottleneck attackers, can make a big difference in outcomes. Corruptron waves grow stronger over time, forcing players to evolve from passive builders to active defenders. This gradual escalation ensures that no run stays peaceful for too long, pushing players to fortify and innovate as threats increase. Visually, Castle Story is charming and distinctive. The bright, blocky aesthetic feels like a blend of LEGO and Minecraft, but with a smoother, more polished style. The floating island maps are beautifully crafted, with rolling hills, cliffs, and narrow passes that naturally shape gameplay and strategy. Animations are smooth, and the Bricktrons themselves are full of character, giving life to what could otherwise be simple units. The UI is clean, though at times it can be a bit unintuitive, especially when managing complex construction tasks or rearranging job priorities mid-battle. The game features several modes, including a campaign-like Invasion mode, sandbox for freeform building, and Conquest, which introduces competitive territorial gameplay. While the variety of modes helps broaden the game’s appeal, it’s the sandbox and Invasion modes that really highlight the game’s strengths—slow, deliberate gameplay where creativity and problem-solving are at the forefront. Multiplayer also allows for cooperative or competitive experiences, but it's worth noting that synchronization issues or lag have been reported by some players in more complex sessions, occasionally marring the experience. Performance-wise, Castle Story is a mixed bag. The voxel engine allows for impressive simulations and real-time modifications to the terrain, but it also introduces some performance issues as builds become more ambitious. Frame drops and AI pathfinding hiccups can emerge in larger structures or during intense Corruptron waves, particularly on mid-range PCs. The developers have made steady improvements since the game’s launch, but some of these issues still persist depending on the complexity of your world. The AI, while generally functional, sometimes struggles with navigating tight areas or executing precise orders, which can lead to frustrating moments during crucial battles or construction tasks. One of the game’s most admirable qualities is how it fosters emergent storytelling. Each run plays out differently depending on how you build, where enemies come from, and how you manage your resources. The game doesn’t impose a strong narrative but instead encourages you to create your own story through your successes and failures—watching your castle fall, rebuild, and stand tall again can be unexpectedly emotional. It’s a game that rewards patience and imagination, ideal for players who enjoy long-term planning and building intricate systems over time. In conclusion, Castle Story is a thoughtful, charming, and ambitious game that stands out in the crowded field of sandbox strategy titles. Its combination of hands-on building, colony management, and strategic defense offers a satisfying loop for players willing to invest time and care into their creations. While it isn’t without flaws—particularly in performance and AI reliability—it’s a unique experience that offers a refreshing blend of creativity and tactical planning. Whether you’re a fan of voxel construction, tower defense, or simply want to oversee a growing colony of cheerful little builders, Castle Story offers a world worth losing yourself in, one brick at a time. great game
muito bom
Not a bad game, just don't recommend it at full price. Wait for a sale or something. The Dev's no longer update the game as of 2018. You can even see it on the Main Menu screen saying updated 2018...
