About
"This really isn't the same game that I originally purchased anymore. With all the changes that have been made over that duration the game is so much more fun
now that there are machines to alleviate almost every large build annoyance that used to exist. The FALCORs, thieves, excavators, drills etc.. all did so much for
automation it's almost hard to believe I ever did that stuff manually before."

FortressCraft has continued to evolve, and now sits at 25 free Content Patches since leaving Early Access. This has included radical visual alterations, completely reworking the surface, along with a brand-new rendering system. On top of that, there has been an enormous amount of work to make the game more understandable and accessible for new players, with a new UI, new Tutorial, new Missions and a updated context-sensitive Handbook. The combination of these things should work towards making it feel like a fresh, new experience. Prepare for a new exploration and survival experience!
FortressCraft Evolved is a unique blend of Voxel Landscapes, Tower Defense, Crafting, Logistics, Exploration, Combat and Assembly lines. Players begin by crash-landing on a strange alien world, left with only a small handful of starting machines. Using hand-held scanners they must locate ore resources, place down Ore Extractors and Conveyors to automate the raw material back to the Smelter; take the fresh ingots through multi-machine assembly lines, followed by researching new technologies that help them explore thousands of meters below the planet's surface.
An advanced HoloBase allows players to keep an eye on their factory which they must defend against waves of alien attacks with multiple tiers of missile and energy turrets. To survive they must continue to develop new and unique power systems, from Solar Energy to Jet Turbines, culminating in crafting an Orbital Energy Transmitter, thousands of cubic meters in size, to beam power off-planet, and start the next phase of the game.
And all this runs on a custom engine with an enormous draw-distance, scaleable gameplay engine that is equally at home on high-end or low-end computers, and full multiplayer support!
Experience the largest worlds ever seen in any computer game - ever!
Create a futuristic mining operation consisting of thousands of huge machines.
Full Tower-Defense style combat in a voxel universe.
Use hi-tech machinery to locate and process resources from thousands of meters away.
Explore thousands of metres vertically, overcoming ever-more difficult challenges.
Official Texture Pack and Mod Pack support
State of the art lighting and shadowing, utilising high resolution maps for machinery and environment
Innovative“Build to Me” Feature to facilitate rapid, accurate building
Super Build Tools allowing instant creation of primitive shapes
"In a world where early access and indie usually means abandoned, unfinished garbage, this game's post-launch development is outpacing many AAA titles and companies."

This is one of those games that genuinely lets you play however you want, wherever you want. If you feel like taking things slow and grinding resources at a relaxed pace, you can do that. If you want to ramp production up to absurd speeds, that’s just as viable. The game gives you an incredible amount of freedom, including tens of thousands of meters of vertical space to build in if you really want to go wild. It strikes a nice balance between structure and freedom. You truly feel like you’re building a massive factory without constantly worrying about aliens tearing it apart. The tower-defense side of the game is intentionally streamlined you place defenses wherever you like, enemies route around them however they can often flying over them while taking fire and that’s it. You can’t wall off paths, and enemies don’t actively target or destroy your defenses. While this removes some strategic depth, it also eliminates the constant frustration of rebuilding after every attack. Logistics is where the game really shines. You have a huge number of options in how you manage resources. You can funnel everything into one massive storage system for easy access at the cost of capacity management, or split storage by resource type and scale each independently, trading simplicity for more complex wiring. You can use hopper storage for faster inventory access at the cost of extra materials. Automation is entirely up to you as well whether you automate absolutely everything or only the resources you use most often. The UI isn’t perfect and could use some refinement, but considering how small the development team is, it’s already in a solid place. The game is still actively in development, with roughly one major patch per month and a constantly updated beta branch that sees near-daily changes. Unlike many developers, updates stay balanced rather than dumping in huge feature sets and worrying about balance later. The developer deserves special mention. The main developer, DJArcas, is extremely active in the community, regularly streaming both gameplay and development. He takes time to answer questions, listens to feedback, and most importantly gives clear, honest responses. If something won’t be added, he explains why. If a suggestion is flawed, he says so. And if he agrees, it often gets implemented quickly. That level of transparency and approachability is rare, especially in a game that’s updated this frequently. Overall, it’s refreshing to see a game with this much freedom, thoughtful design, and a developer who genuinely engages with the community.
Really a 50/50 review rather than a flat downvote. Done a few different playthroughs over the years of this, came back to see what the finished product looks like but honestly it feels unfinished. Lots of things still aren't explained, tons of entries in the "help" system still have "No specific help available, due to unimplemented help file", entire systems of the game seem half put in and not really of value to the overall experience, and both the building and UIs are pretty clunky. This is however the only game where I feel like power itself is a logistics and I love the whole thing of having to get power from the surface sent lower down being it's own dimension. If this is exactly your type of game, being automation and factory builders then you will probably make it past the many things holding the game back and have a ton of fun. The price is good, I recommend the content DLCs as well if you intend to play.
The game is just impossible to get into. Feels unfinished, controls are awful, everything feels unintuitive and confusing. Bought it on sale for 2 bucks and still feels like a brutal waste of money. Also the developer is not the nicest person out there. Dont buy this pile of crap
A fun Satisfactory alternative that allows a PC that is much weaker to play it. I love satisfactory, but my current setup can't run it, This is a good mix of Satisfactory, Minecraft, and tower defense, well done.
I had high hopes for this game as I love automation, and I can see that it likely is good, however I cannot recommend it as I never could figure out how to play. The tutorial doesn't help and there aren't any online resources.
This is, quite simply, the best trove of absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful design decisions known to mankind. Total lack of professionalism. Concepts added in an Adderall-spawned haze. The dev is an Autist's autist. Removed items 10 years ago? Better hoarde them and put them into confusing research categories! Too stupid to figure out netcode? Better limit lift sizes and not mention it ANYWHERE until AFTER you've built the parts for extending your lift with an 'oops, SORRY!' tooltip This kid played minecraft 20 years ago and like so many other kids, went on to make a voxel-y coal->copper->iron copy , but with extra steps, and optimized like an N64 game. Still kinda fun, if only to play through the 'game' and laugh at all the jank that exists. Dev's weird autist personality makes him actively hate other humans, and change of any kind. Resistance to fixing spelling errors and other persistent UI mistakes is not because he's too stupid to notice or know how, but an actual pathological inability to change or admit fault of any kind.. it's kind of entertaining! The real 'game' value is fussing around with the 10 yr old asset flip and paint job and waiting for the next stupid mechanic to kick in. 'I didn't like people dodging this one enemy, so I put a 5s cooldown on the grappling hook in this *one area* denoted and gated off by absolutely nothing! BETTER GOOGLE THAT NOW THAT YOU HAVE TIME AS YOURE A CORPSE like lol what? What kind of player experience is that? Your magic techno-grapple got a little... chilly? move 1 meter lower and it ceases to function. But go TWO HUNDRED meters lower, and it's fine lol. Just completely inane non-design. I could go on, but it'd be embarrassing to put more mental energy into a review than a dev put into their game...

Nope. Let's put aside the age of the game, put aside the minecraft visuals, the game is clunky in this day and age, with visual studdering. Every few seconds it would micro pause in movement and graphics. No. Not something I accept in a game. Not optimized. Next, there is an element in the audio cues, where there is a MASSIVE scream from an unknown entity that randomly occurs and with no embodiment within visual range. There is no way to turn down sounds individually, so at Sound 5% (being the lowest sound volume setting; either 0% or 5%, no middle ground) , I've gotten two jump scares. Perhaps this was the intent of the developers. Sure, enjoy the game others, I will not be continuing without full control of graphics and audio output. The game play hours of 2.5 is just me trying to figure out how to play the game, not actual gameplay.
Nice concept, thought it was going to be fun and was terrible. Hard to do anything. Controls are bad. Arthur, the robot helper is always in the way. Steam cloud doesn't upload correctly and causes steam cloud problems that I had to uninstall the game to correct. Tutorial and/or missions don't work consistently and are confusing and bad help system. Couldn't find anything in game with scanner system. Overall a bad game.
Having a lot of technical problems. Long flush times at game close. Aside from that, it's hard to recommend this in the modern age with Factorio, Satisfactory, their many clones, or even Modern Minecraft modpacks.
