Good game, like hades but rhythm
Its not bad but a little barebones. It plays like hades, and when moving and grooving in line with the beat it can be pretty fun, and its a nice touch they including things to help you get in line with the beat. Theres also some cool upgrades to change why kind of build youre running, whether its burn, shield getting, high crit, etc. Theres also 3 weapons that all play differently. But then it wears thin. You unlock those 3 weapons like 30% into the game, and then theres no other guns to get, and no other characters, so you'll play those same 3 the whole time. Every level is the same in a row, fighting the same enemies and the same 3 bosses, so nothing in the run from environments or bosses ever changes. Although the enemies are varied in attacks, they are all just robots so they aren't the most interesting to fight. The 2nd boss is annoying in that he takes forever as you need to wait for him to come around, and you have to destroy parts of him that don't damage him as he drives by and they respawn each repeat wave through, which is lame. The final boss is horribly designed, involving bullet hell tactics, teleport homing attacks, but on top of that he has the lazy tropes of constant endlessly respawning waves of guys as well as environmental hazards that cover 1/3 of the screen. None of those alone are too much but together its just cheezy and artificially annoying. Also later levels are too small, especially with the environmental hazards, on top of the 50 enemies that all spawn you fight at once, making it impossible to navigate around without getting hurt as well as being able to tell when you are about to be attacked, especially as there's guys who suddenly seem to be able to attack right from being stunned. The in run upgrades are fun but those again start to run thin as you can basically go 4-5 different builds and thats it. Your meta progression after adding a revive is mostly just higher drop rates for temporary buffs as well as damage and life increases. Some of them get ridiculously grindy for 1000 xp (75% of what you get in a 45 min run) for 1% higher damage. You should be able to unlock different ultimates for the weapons to add variety. Its just pretty light on content after the first 4-5 hrs, which is never a good sign. The only motivation for me to keep playing was to beat the boss, as there was nothing more to see, which is crucial for a roguelike to have. It still works and has some bright spots, but is just too repetitive and with not enough to unlock 7/10.
Great game, the rhythm and the voice acting are top notch. Only negative point is that it's too short, and would benefit majorly from some more content.
Felky Fun Meter

|--------|--| [8/10] Very fun!
Satisfying combat, fun "kick"-mechanic; okay amount of weapon, very large amount of combos with the different elements, good soundtrack, fun boss fights! The rhythm aspect of the game persists through the entire playthrough which is nice. Some weapons definitely felt stronger than others good luck hitting the
train-boss with the fire-extinguisher
but that's a common thing with this genre so.. :p Overall very enjoyable experience :D
First I wanted to review it as "we have Hades at home" but the rhythm aspect makes it so much deeper and better! I have always struggled with keeping rhythm but this game helped me achieve it in a very short while! Great game overall and interesting characters!
♥♥♥♥ DIETRICH I had a lot of fun playing the game and I can't wait for updates
I love rhythm games but previously did not like roguelikes. Well guess that was because I had a bad start - Beat Slayer is motivating and fun every time, even though the harder difficulties are no jokes! The weapons are all unique and fun, randomized upgrades all feel great and when combining them, it makes you feel really powerful. This game mastered both making you feel good after a really tough stage and making you feel good when you are overpowered and just having a run crushing hundreds of robots to pieces. Also, I like the theme and the characters you meet between runs are all likable and have plenty of dialogue so you don't get repeated phrases all the time. Minor complaint: The game could use a few more permanent upgrades. It might make you overpowered though so not sure what I would like to see that would not make the game unbalanced. Oh and... almost goes without saying as it's the basis for everything but the soundtrack of this game is great! Absolutely worth listening to for dozens of hours.
Great experience. Soundtrack feels great, controls and feel are okay, you have interesting characters to talk with at the base. You'll eventually get 3 weapons to choose from. This and the variety of different power-ups allows for the combat to feel fresh most of the time. If you want to get the good ending though, you'll have to play some additional content. And I wish it was a tad easier. Robots at the very end have too much hp, which makes fights feel more slow and boring when compared to before. Also If after 'main' gameplay I felt incredible about the game, my emotions got more washed out the longer I played. Had additional content for the best ending been a bit shorter - it would've been better.
