I'm giving this game a 5/10 Some very cool ideas here, and some solid simulation building. The CONCEPT of the story is very cool. All that said, I am kind of offended as to how little research the developers did into the actual Coast Guard. I was in the Coast Guard. Its nothing like this. This is more like the story of the most well funded, die hard auxilarists the world has ever known. Also special mention has to be given to the script and voice acting. I think the developers voiced this themselves in their house and had to keep their voice down because the kids were asleep or something. It's "Jill Sandwich" bad. All that said, I'm enjoying the game and am impressed with the branching storylines (complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as some of them are) So this gets a tentative thumbs up, only if it is on sale. If someone took this and threw a heapload more time and money towards it, we would have an exceptional gem Semper Paratus
Around an hour I spent on the first mission, the ghost ship. No denying I enjoyed the majority of it. The game has real potential, and the different elements mixed together do work very well - sure, the first person sequences are rough and require work, and there's bugs galore, but there's the essence of a great game in here. Unfortunately the simple lack of a basic save system meaning you pretty much lose everything once you stop playing unless you're lucky enough that you passed a (unidentifiable) checkpoint means the game is basically alpha and not fit for public release. Doors which don't actually work properly, to interface elements which simple haven't been playtested properly, this is a game in early development which has evidently been released in borderline alpha state. Shame really, it really is a good game underneath the hood, but unfortunately it's rather broken and stops you enjoying it as much as you'd want to. Polish it more and this is a definite yes, but as it stands it's just too rough to justify the cost - if it had been early access I'd have been infinitely more forgiving. Come back when you've done more work on the game, fellas.
This game was awesome, I loved the gameplay and the story. You have an option of a gun the entire game, I never used one. I was stuck on two parts for probably an hour each, so not including that, I don't really think 19$ is worth 7hrs of gameplay. I wish the game was longer and had more to it, thought it was going to be a heavy simulatiton game but it is alot more of an investigation/puzzle game. Pros: Great idea, great story, fun gameplay Cons: Short story, don't actually use a gun when its in the manual, glitchy at some points, more of just an investigation game than driving boats
One of a handful of titles which would benefit from a "Mediocre" addition to the rating system on here, Coast Guard really never could decide what it wanted to be. For the first two thirds of it, I'd have given this game a positive rating...but then you get to the last third and it all goes down the tubes.
You follow the duties of coast guard Officer Finn Asdair who ends up rescuing and falling for refugee Fatima Morgane. Fatima is then recaptured by the scumbag trafficker who originally had her, raped, and murdered. Your boss is in on it and sinks the ship with you aboard to cover everything up, the game ends with you saving the seemingly sketchy but actually decent forensics specialist and credits roll. Pretty lame.
Graphically this looks decent while you're on the ship, with really nice looking waves and pretty solid late-day lighting - note here current PCs have issues running Coast Guard maxed out, thank lousy optimization and an old version of Unity. Voice work is good for the first half, hit-and-miss or nonexistent for the second. Controls are fine although how they set up moving from task to task while aboard the main vessel could have been done better. Achievement hunters, you'll be happy to note all included work although thanks to a branching story you'll have to play a chunk of the game multiple times to unlock a few of them. You're looking at around 20 hours depending on save scumming. Astragon typically publishes solid but rather banal simulators. In this instance they really should have stuck with that. Not recommended.
Should be named "refugee saving simulator" After having to save refugees, you would think the story gets more interesting with a crime happen, but then it's again all about refugees. I played it 100% with both endings, but more or less just because it wasn't hard and I wanted all the achievements. However, the content isn't that much and it can get REALLY frustrating doing certain things just because the developers wanted to get more time out of the game. The story is completely unrealistic. If you can get it on sale, try it if you want, but otherwise don't. Also it's REALLY buggy sometimes. By the way: If you want the last achievement for playing both endings, you have to play them in ONE session. That means, when you finished the second ending, just load the last save of the other ending and play those last 2-3 minutes. After that you will get the achievement.
Feels like the budget or timeframe for release was severely curtailed. Spend half your time going to what sounds like a cool mission... but that mission doesn't actually exist, just a waypoint that is in reality a delaying tactic to occupuy your time while the narrative catches up. The time-frame jumps around distractedly, to confuse the player to build a so-so mystery-plot. Too little coast-guard gaming, too much jumping around. Could have been great. Should have been great. But fails any expectations. Buy ONLY on extreme sale, and only if there isn't another game you want.
I really liked this game, i don't know why it has so many bad reviews from the others, it's one of the best games i've ever played. It's kind of an action adventure with the criminal investigation, good story with decent playtime and 2 endings. Only downside is that it's not really good optimized - my fx6300+r9 270 is not good enough, getting only 5-30 fps
Good quality simulator. It's more exploratory that most simulators, the instructions are a bit vage that makes you think and sometimes desperate, because you don't know what to do or just realize you are not doing anything wrong. Storyline is good, gameplay is good and visually beautifull. 6.5/10
