The deluge of rogue-type games lately makes buying a new entry in this crowded genre a risky proposition. Riskier yet if the game's in early access. So many rogues are cheap, insincere knockoffs, asset flips, or broken and abandoned. At least StoryAge was confident enough in Rise Again to release a demo earlier this year, which gave me a chance to spend a little time with this. Because I liked what was shown in the demo, I decided to give this EA release a go, despite its relatively steep price tag. Even in the early stages of this early access release, Rise Again shows a lot of promise. This game is much more akin to Hades or Ember Knights where you fight through a room, select an upgrade, and move on to the next room all while collecting currency for the metagame. You start with a limited number of spells and melee weapons, with more to be discovered as you progress through the game. My biggest gripe is an aesthetic one more than anything: the UI is not intuitive and tooltips need more revising to clarify some of the game's systems. I can give my complaints a pass, though, because this is a very good game that just released into EA. The visual presentation is good, the animations are fast a fluid, and the gameplay is very responsive. I did have some issues with my 8BitDo controller at first, but I enabled Steam input, which seemed to resolve issues related to control. I also tested it on my SteamDeck, and it worked just fine with medium settings across the board, vsync off, and FSR enabled. Good game so far! I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
This was fun; combat is smooth and fast-paced, sometimes difficult, sometimes easy. I think the game's metaprogres is a bit slow at first, then accelerates. A little tweaking could make it more effective and fun. It launched into early access with a solid foundation, and I think it will offer even more diverse gameplay as the content grows. I'll be following future updates.
The game is great and feels very balanced. I’m impressed with the quality even though it’s Early Access. The visuals are stunning, and everything runs smoothly.
This is a fun, Early Access experience. Quite polished with great combat for an EA title. Looking forward to future updates.
Been playing for a few hours and I’m honestly hooked. The combat feels smooth, dying and coming back stronger never gets old, and there’s already a nice mix of weapons and upgrades to mess with. The art and atmosphere are great too. It’s still in Early Access, but there’s a solid foundation here, can’t wait to see how it grows. Definitely worth checking out if you like roguelikes or action RPGs.
ENGLISH VERSION BELOW

Note globale : 16/20 --------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello everyone!
Rise Again is a roguelite hack & slash where you’ll explore dungeons in order to break free from a curse! Review made on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/hyrroh
Positive points:
- The art direction is really well done! - Different elemental spells that can be upgraded during a run - Plenty of small features that provide boosts during a run (stats, extra effects to choose from a list that grows over time, etc.) - The gameplay is quite dynamic, and the first two hours offer a good level of challenge - Points can be spent outside of runs to improve your starting stats
Negative points:
- Weapons feel useless; I find them too complicated to play - Daggers are slow — why? That goes against the principle of rogue-style gameplay, which should be fast and stealthy, for example - Early Access feels almost finished after only 3 hours — all weapons unlocked and a large majority of spells available - A lack of procedural generation in runs; I often had a feeling of déjà vu - After beating the first boss, I felt like I was steamrolling the game — maybe some rebalancing is needed?
Areas for improvement:
- In the long run, add different bosses at each level to prevent the game from feeling too repetitive - Make weapons more useful again — maybe by increasing spell cooldowns or adding stacking effects when using weapons - I was surprised that in the first world, falling into the void doesn’t kill you, but in the second world it does — is that a bug? A solid roguelite in the making that just needs a bit more content to keep players engaged, but it shows a lot of promise! Overall score: 16/20
I was very excited to pick this up after the Next Fest Demo. It really channels that vibe you hoped to get as a D&D Wizard until you found it was all D4 hit points and cloth armour. Rise Again does a better job of the novitiate wizard kicking a$$ for the lord. The Early Access version improves on the demo version in a couple of minor ways (I think I've found some new skills). Until I test it all out, I'll just leave my Steam Next Fest Discussions post below: "This was a (fun!) surprise The Steam Next Fest is always a mixed bag - some good, some bad. Rise Again is the former; it's clearly an early taste of what's to come, complete with a little jank, but it's also complete with that great itch-scratcher of just-one-more-run. My wife (watching me play) noted that this looked like "those D&D games but with more action" which is a good summation of what's on offer. The classics you'd expect - lightning, burning hands, cone of cold - are how you make your mark on the world. The core loop follows a standard roguelite formula, where dying to progress is part of the journey. I appreciate the speed of gameplay, although I do wonder if there's not quite the right balance here. You're super fast zipping around the map, but sometimes that can't help you not get overwhelmed (I reserve full judgement on this as during a roguelite, permanent progression unlocks can really smooth the difficulty curve). Considering the EA notes say this is probably ~9 months from release, that feels fair; there's polish to be done but the core vibe of the game feels very promising!"
Its almost all handmade? Dev team is just 2 people?? I am very happy to support it!!
Great concept that plays well. IF it will continue to get updates and content, I can recommend it, but currently it is quite short on content PROS + good visuals + good gameplay + good skils, blessings, effects, etc CONS - sounds - are messed up (play too late, good music with weird heights/bass balance) - controlls - basic attack locks on targets and mouse cursor is not visible enough - maybe litle too early for EA NEUTRAL ° its quite fast paced and hard
