Unfortunately, Back to Ashes doesn't put its best foot forward. The controls are too clunky, direction is too unclear, and the game is overall too janky for me to recommend it.

I kind of like it although it is a very basic game. But the overall atmosphere and the combat are quite good. Sure, combat is a bit unprecise but still fun. I would say 6/10 in the current state. The basics are good, but it would have needed more polish.

Severely needs work. Only being able to dodge in four directions when locked on makes the game's combat a bit janky unless you manage the camera yourself, and the timing between hits for queuing up the next one is way too precise; on many occasions I tried to do a followup attack, only to wind up not doing anything and getting punished. It feels weirdly overly precise in a very bad and unfun way, which sucks, because the idea of a Diablo-style loot system in a soulslike is actually a cool one if Nioh and Nioh 2 are anything to go by, and the general aesthetic is nice. Will definitely be keeping my eye on this one though.
