OK. This software is a cheat. I wish STEAM would start policing these titles. There needs to be a strict road map to full release. Bad actors are taking advantage of the STEAM reputation to steal money from loyal STEAM customers. Admittedly some work went into the original demo eight years ago, or so. In EA for two years and counting. No progress for over two years! By the time these developers finish this software, if they ever do, we'll need an emulator just to play it on a modern computer. Don't throw your money away here. Do yourself a favor and ignore any positive reviews of this software. In all likelihood, they are fake.
I picked this game up on sale for about half off, so I won't return it or anything, but I cannot recommend anyone else purchase it. I don't want to disparage the dev, but there's about nothing here. It's about 15% of an SNES game at this point, and those games were pretty vapid as-is. There'd be a lot of promise if this was early access with only about a month under it's belt. But this game has been been around for 6-7 years (over 2 years in EA on Steam). The dev seems to be active in doing updates, but I fear scope creep has handicapped his efforts. I want to like the game, it does have charm. The character controls are decent, NPC models and enemies are animated well with good hitboxes, and in the first 20 minutes it seems like a game is unfolding. Unfortunately that all falls apart very quickly. It really isn't much fun to tromp through the same areas over and over, with nothing of visual interest or a focal point to drive your efforts. There's little to no explanation or tool tips to let you know what features mean, level design is poor and doesn't naturally flow (you'll be backtracking a whole lot), and the character progression elements are so flat they could be omitted. Everything just feels barren and pointless. There's really no linear progression to follow. The game tries to have too many elements, and it seems to have culminated into analysis paralysis on the development end. If the dev does end up continuing to fruition, one recommendation: Get rid of those stupid iron keys and just make progression item chests able to be opened. Nothing is worse than slogging through an area, not having a key, going to buy one for $75 gold, and then finally getting back to the chest in the dungeon only to find out you get $10 in gold. Just... why?
This game has been abandoned for 4 years. It's a shame, I really liked the combat. My original review: This is the kind of game that makes you wonder where 3-4 hours went. I'm surprised it isn't selling more copies. From what I've seen so far, the story is similar to something Robert E. Howard would write. Combat is simple, but entertaining, and the various weapons give you multiple choices in how to handle an enemy. The RPG elements actually make a difference, I've gotten 2 very different outcomes after fullfilling the first quest.
BE ADVISED.. ABANDONWARE
Buggy incomplete game that hasn't been updated in over 3 years. I broke the game by breaking out of my prison at the beginning of the game, by doing exactly what the game wants me to do.
Very fun metvania kind of RPG side scroller. Early access, but still feels like a finished game, with way more features than most other games of similar genres but with a fraction of the budget as its one guy doing it all himself. only had a single bug so far, and Matt [the dev] answered me directly about it. it was fixed in the next patch! Matt listens to fans and makes changes accordingly. the game is incredibly smooth, and well worth the price!
The best barbarian game ever made. Deep systems, varied environments, smooth combat and tons of content. This is a game well worth the price tag and on top of that, the developer is a thoroughly nice bloke! Buy this game and tell your friends to do the same!
if tobar ever completes this game i think it will be amazing. but seems like forgotten ware at this point.
I first got this game and was very excited to play due to the trailer and style. I hate playing early access and bought it to sit for the full release.....Which appears is never coming. avoid this game as it's been early access for years with no updates and no news from the developer.
Boring gameplay, lost interest in playing it last year. Wouldn't recommend it.
