While the game is great and I love it so far (first time AC player) I'm saying no due to Ubisoft's awful launcher. Usually, I don't care but with this game I received it from my purchase of AC Odyssey. The major issue is, this game WILL NOT activate in the Ubisoft launcher without first fully downloading Odyssey and launching it. Ubisoft Connect (or Ubisoft in general) gives zero information about this. Just beware of activation issues if you get this game through Odyssey.
Rating: Hard Neutral Ah Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered, this is not a game. TLDR: This feels like I am raising a kid, having twin boys and a daughter, and they all left me in the end to pave their own ways... (Figuratively). Note: This is a long ass review. Assassin's Creed 3 Remastered (AC3R) is a big chunk, and I meant it. AC3R was obtained free via the purchase of AC Odyssey on steam. This series is made up of the main story, three medium sized DLCs showing an alternate perspective and Liberation whose story revolves around Aveline. Assassin's Creed 3 You play as Haytham firstly, followed by Connor for the remaining of the story. The good part is the story is actually pretty interesting to me, and I am sucker for evolving stories, and how the paths of each unique individual play a role in the overarching story of AC. On the modern flip side, playing as Desmond was okay too, as I didn't spoil myself by reading up on the AC Wikipedia besides playing the game itself. The bad ♥♥♥♥♥ will be the free running and parkour of AC3 main story. For a remastered version, there are bloody invisible bricks which can void your climb or jump, which is the core mechanic of AC??? Combat of Connor was really average too, other than being able to use axes, and most weapons are locked behind story progression, which meant I can't slaughter enemies early when pre-exploring the maps and getting all the required collectibles. The worst crap will be ..... Ding ding! The bloody MAP. There are no fast travel points for use within all three arcs of the games, but you can ride a horse. Yeah a horse.... This meant much time was wasted on good ole sprinting from one location to the other, and it starts to get grating on the nerves after awhile. But I didn't sign up to play Red Dead Redemption Devs.... (No shade to RDR, I get to it soon). Assassin's Creed 3 DLC: The Tyranny of King Washington The three DLCs of the main AC3, I can only say, felt like a slog fest with the story portion carrying me in a flimsy way through the whole process. The DLCs provided an alternative view of America' first president, George Washington, where the path he chose took a darker turn, and our local hero Connor had to deal with the the events surrounding this particular change. Movement and missions format are largely similar to the main game, but for Weapons, they have implemented a collection format, where the player has to reach certain areas of interest to reunlock a limited selection of previously obtained weapons in the main story. So unless you are a completionist or a story enthusiast, the DLCs are not very entertaining or time-worthy. Assassin's Creed: Liberation Remastered Liberation Remastered was another additional free add-on to this combination package, packed with it's own story and character. The game follows the path of a young woman named Aveline in the fight against the presumed Spanish Templars in Louisana and New Orleans. But wow, I think this is one of the few times I actually skipped story cut scenes in an AC game... The dialogue between our heroine, her handsome French assistant, reclusive paranoid Mentor and generic off the shelf Nemesis was so bland and tasteless that I did not hesitate... Movement and Combat was actually way better than AC3, where I believed they took the core mechanics of ground combat in AC4BF and implemented it here (same time period). Parkour was great and Aveline actually had a arsenal of weapons to play around with, including a lady's parasol gun. One new gimmick the Devs tried in this Standalone was the wardrobe system, which allowed Aveline to take on three different personas with various perks and weapons limitations on each one. I would say the system is alright, could have been better if the player could teleport to the unlocked wardrobe waypoints.... And yes, Liberation Remastered does not have teleport points, I don't understand why.... TLDR: AC3 and AC Liberations are very different from AC Odyssey, expect the difference. Play them if you are a AC fan or seeking new stories. For completionists, this two series will test your endurance, gear up for that and all the best. Okay, audios my readers! My next AC game playthrough will need a longer downtime 🤣🤣 (Looking at you Odyssey with your big ass map)
Age has not been kind to Assassin's Creed 3, though the backlash the remaster is getting is out of hand. There's the usual fluff regarding the main game: you will get intensely frustrated at the amount of tailing missions, lack of places to parkour on and a surprisingly shallow main character. The very hard optional objectives will keep taunting you for missing them, even when they're insanely difficult and practically impossible to get on the first go. For some obnoxious reason, they went with a world map that has no location names whatsoever and the slowest horse you can get. Enemy AI is really unforgiving and many missions will insta-fail you. It's not changed. However I'll have to give it a thumbs up for the excellent worldbuilding and characters, including a great conclusion to Desmond's journey. Having replayed all the Ezio games back to back just before this and having preordered the Uplay (exclusive, back in the day) version of this on release day, it still is a disappointing sequel but a great Assassin's Creed story. Especially love the very random modern day segments, the skyscraper, MMA match and a visit to Abstergo. Don't sleep on the Homestead missions! Like all side content in this game, they are for some reason very sidelined and off the beaten path - but they contain so much more character and lore content for you. This game has the weirdest way of hiding actual content from you as much as possible. Having AC3: Liberation remastered here is great. There's a folder in the game files which has a lot of exclusive bonus content, too. Overall I'd say it's a faithful remaster in the way that the game itself hasn't much changed (that godawful Lee chase is still there, unchanged) but the remastered lighting is very nice and it all runs at (locked) 60 FPS. I'd give it a middle thumb but since I appreciate the value here, I'll give it a thumbs up. Haytham is still one of the best written AC characters. Onwards to Black Flag Resynced!
This is essentially how NOT to do a remaster. Bugs present in the original game are still present, PLUS some new ones. Things like weird hitboxes for freerunning and enemies who seem to spot you instantly make this a very frustrating experience more than anything else. A lot of the problems are issues the original game had, but you would hope a remaster might touch up a few little things here and there. Not so here. Shameless cashgrab.
Ubisoft Connect is UNBEARABLE! Ubisoft please fix your mess. ALSO the original game had bugs but this is SOMEHOW worse.
meh, has so many glitches compared to og, somehow feels worse movement wise, and overall gameplay and story is just alright... it has its highs and lows 6/10, og 7/10
Can't family share. Ubisoft is Evil.
First assassins creed game that i've played that got me into the franchise. very nostalgic. I've noticed people say there are bugs or something going on in this game but so far i've have not ran into anything wrong bug wise or problematic in the game.(updated 6/28/2026. i have ran into some bugs especially for the Encyclopedia of the common man one appears it is best when you get the mission in sequence 6 is best to go and get the ones already available and work on those to lvl them up. mainly do the farmers first, lumbers next then carpenter. i found that at lvl 2 you can get their 3 scannable works. especially the farmers.(7/6/2026 The other bug ive ran into is the delivery requests. will update later when i test this theory i came across.) It is nice that it has the king washington dlc which i have never done before and so far i find it quite interesting and the liberation one bundled under one game.
I enjoyed my time with Assassin's Creed III Remastered overall and think it's worth playing, especially if you're interested in the story or are making your way through the Assassin's Creed series. The controls are easy to get used to, the gameplay is enjoyable, and the story kept me engaged from start to finish. While it isn't my favourite entry in the series, I still had a good time with it. That said, the remaster isn't without its issues. I ran into several bugs during my playthrough, and some of them prevented certain missions or optional objectives from being completed. If you're aiming for 100% completion, be prepared for the possibility that technical issues may get in the way. I also found earning money to be more of a grind than it needed to be. Buying equipment and completing everything can take a considerable amount of time, which occasionally slowed the pace of the game. Despite those frustrations, I still enjoyed the overall experience and think it's worth playing—just go in knowing that the remaster isn't as polished as it could have been.
