It's a pretty good cardgame. It looked like it would play well on the phone, but you have to have a netflix account to play (for free). The move mechanic and layout are nice, if a bit underused. What you see is what you get basically. Nothing really bad about the game, but it didn't scratch my itch for deckbuilding depth.
You know a game is balanced well when you stomp the entire run but the final boss kills you not because your strategy failed but because you cannot execute your strategy. 4 cost cards? Can't play them because the boss removed 2 AP (you gain 3 per turn). Dealt 60 damage to the boss? He's immune to damage the rest of the turn. These are not interactive mechanics. The game dev might as well tell me, "You cannot play the game anymore this turn." I don't know of any other card game that does this and for good reason. The UI is terrible. Artifacts won't tell you won't they do hovering over them. You can't find them in the list. The card upgrade screen is a complete travesty showing every single card you own for all three characters whether the card is equipped or not. The mechanics are extremely basic. There's no twisting of dials or turning of levers. You can manipulate almost nothing. The interplay between characters is non-existant. Garbage.
I get the impression that it's a pretty underrated game. You hardly see anything about it on YouTube, no guides or tutorials… And I guess that’s part of its magic. A game where you have to figure out for yourself what works and what doesn’t. I’ve found very few flaws. The interface is super polished, the heroes are all very distinct, each with their own identity, and the combat mechanics are highly original. There are different strategic layers, and once you understand and get familiar with its language, the game really pulls you in. It masterfully blends a world/board, deck-building, character movement, aggro and resource management. Truly a gem. If you like Hearthstone-style games but without the pay-to-win aspect, this one will keep you hooked for a long time.
On Deck it uses the right trackpad as mouse by default, joystick doesn't act as joystick but alternate mouse control. So if you want strict traditional gamepad controls this won't be your thing. I think it feels fine though. Defaulted to max graphic settings and it's 60fps lock (I'm not watching it constantly but it always looks smooth and whenever I look it says 60). It is 60fps cap so you won't be able to take full advantage of the OLED Deck's 90hz screen. You can set resolution to multiple including 1280x720 or x800, I chose x720 cuz with 800 the Steam metrics overlay I always have running covers up some of the game info at the top. I had played Across the Obelisk in coop which from what I had seen and now experienced so far seems to have the same vibe, card based rogueliTe not liKe so permaprogression making the game get easier the more you play. But unfortunately unlike Across the Obelisk no coop even though you have 3 heroes.
pretty fun game, hope there are 3d version of the heros performing the card action tho
Amazing deckbuilder. Lots of characters and combinations to play through many difficulties.
