Recommended, but be prepared for a very long journey Yakuza 5 is probably my least favorite entry in the series, yet I still think it's a good game and worth playing if you're a fan of the franchise. One of the highlights for me was the variety of side content. The taxi missions were surprisingly fun and offered a good mix of activities, keeping things fresh throughout Kiryu's chapter. Unfortunately, the dialogue-heavy missions didn't appeal to me nearly as much, and those make up the majority of the content. On the positive side, Fukuoka was a great addition to the series. It's a beautiful city to explore and provided a welcome change of scenery compared to the locations we've seen before. The side stories for the different protagonists are incredibly extensive. In fact, some of them are so large and detailed that they almost feel like standalone games within Yakuza 5. This contributes to the game's massive amount of content, but it also adds to its biggest issue: length. The game is enormous. My biggest complaint is the Coliseum progression. Unlocking new tournaments requires earning large amounts of points, which means repeating the same tournaments over and over again. The grind feels completely unnecessary and turns what could have been a fun side activity into a tedious chore. The combat is still enjoyable, but some Heat Actions overstay their welcome. Certain animations are so long that they become repetitive after you've seen them a few times. There were moments where I'd get into a fight with random thugs and end up watching a 15-second cinematic of Akiyama kneeing someone in the face. It looks cool the first few times, but it gets old fast. Completionists should also be warned: 100% completion is easily one of the worst completion experiences in the series. Expect to spend well over 100 hours if you're aiming for all achievements, especially because of the Hall of Famer trophy. The game forces you to engage with virtually every piece of content, making the process extremely grindy and, at times, simply not fun. And yet, despite all of these complaints, I still found myself enjoying the experience. That's the magic of Yakuza. I was always motivated to explore the world, meet new characters, and discover their stories and struggles. That sense of curiosity and immersion remains one of the greatest strengths of the series, and Yakuza 5 still delivers it in abundance. Overall, Yakuza 5 is a good game with fun combat, memorable characters, and an incredible amount of content. However, its excessive length, heavy grinding requirements, and exhausting completion checklist prevent it from reaching the heights of the best entries in the franchise. Recommended, but make sure you're ready for the commitment.
Yakuza 5 Remastered]

After playing all the Yakuza games back to back, I unfortunately have felt the tremendous fatigue while playing Yakuza 5. In my honest opinion Yakuza 5’s bloated and lengthy content / campaign is the culprit of bad game design to this day, and the 5th entry was victim to it at such an early stage. Sure you can disguise it with a flashy new engine with improved game mechanics and fighting animations, but at some point everything ends up feeling more like a job and a chore and less of a .. “yakuza” game. I understand writers of the franchise needed to strive for something different instead of making the same plot over & over again, I do see how it could get very stale, but in the bases of continuity, ending Yakuza 4 with Kazuma Kiyru saying “I’m done running from my problems & the Tojo Clan” and then proceeding to Yakuza 5 with the introduction of Kazuma contradicting what he concluded in the last game by … running away once again.. and living a secret life away from the Tojo clan to become a .. taxi driver..? Saejima’s story was even worse.. another prison break story, and this time he ends up in a snowy mountain village learning to hunt.. And the game is barely much of a Yakuza game and ends up being more of a rhythm dance game once you play as Haruka and her stardom campaign as a 16-17 year old aspiring celeb, dancing and singing on stage, doing TV press, game shows, meet and greets. It was insane. I do have to admit, that side of the campaign had me a little more sentimental due to the occurrences that happen through her story.. but it shows how much the story can lack my interest when it’s being told by multiple characters that it gets so diluted with filler, it becomes a different game entirely. I’m not finished with the game yet as I write my review, but too finish off from what I experienced so far.. it’s not a bad Yakuza game.. but it sure ain’t a good one either..
Yakuza 5, "the big one" as you could call it. The longest story in the series pre RPG's with an average story completion time of 36 hours & the longest game in terms of getting all achievements in the entire series with an average time of 152 hours. Five characters, four different cities, four completely unique in-depth character specific minigames, 568 food/drink items, an entire collisum, many different fish, 100 locker keys, a treasure hunt, 20 tourist spots to take photos, garbage to collect, gambling to be done, many different minigames such as darts, pool, karaoke, etc, one trainer for each character, a unique skill tree for each character, over a hundred weapons to make, five hostesses, 50 substories, and oh my god I'm not even done.....you get the point. Yakuza 5 IS HUGE. There's actually some stuff that isn't included in the remaster which was in the original AND some stuff that you can do that isn't actually required for any achievement. For a completely singleplayer non RPG game it's wild how massive this video game is. But essentially all of that is completely optional. If you're insane enough to go for the 100% that's on you. If you are just playing the game for the story then you're in store for a wild one. Yakuza 5 features a great cast of playable characters. Kazuma Kiryu returns now in seclusion as a taxi driver away from his friends/family at morning glory & Kamurocho. Taiga Saejima also returns from 4. Following his break out of prision to find the truth of what happened with the hit on 18 men & his patriarch, Saejima has decided he wants to return to prision to finish out his sentence before returning to the Tojo clan & his own family that he was given at the end of 4. Shun Akiyama return from 4 as well. He's still a loan shark. A character who isn't exactly "new" to the series but has never been playable before is one of the playable characters. I won't spoil who that is in case but if you've been playing all the games up to this point then you should for sure love this character. Tatsuo Shinada is our brand new protagonist in this entry. A once professional baseball player who hit a homerun during his first at-bat in the major league is now living in poverty after he was accused of cheating following his huge moment. He went into hiding trying to start a new life but that life never really left him. Yakuza 5 has a very complex story because while each character has their own unique situation going on there's an overarching story being told as well. You will have to rememeber many plot points as you progress through each chapter & some plot points/characters get brought up an hour in but aren't talked about again for ten maybe even twenty hours. There're so many characters, clans, plot twists, & just things in general which happen that are very important to the story that it gets to a point where you're really trying to enjoy everything & stay locked in but how can you? Not to mention there's an entire portion of this game, Saejima's section to be exact, which is so so so SO boring. & it really sucks cause Saejima's a really cool character & the actual payoff in the end for him is kind of cool but my god getting through his part sucked. I thought the ending of the game was fantastic & made it worth staying focused & trying to care about everything happening leading up to it. I though the meat & potatos had good momenets, bad moments, & just straight up confusing moments. The set up for the story is simple. Tojo Clan chairmen Daigo Dojima believes a war in about to break out between the Omi Alliance & Tojo Clan because the Omi patriarch is dying & after that happens whoever takes over will want to take down the Tojo Clan. Daigo sets off to gain new allies between the Tojo & other clans across Japan. While on his mission Daigo visits an old friend, Kiryu, but he then goes missing. In Yakuza fashion there's a lot more than meets the eye. You will uncover the mysteries within & see how each character gets wrapped up in this crazy plot. The game's feel & look is very close to Yakuza 4 remastered. There are brand new game-play elements like climax heat actions for four of the characters, dragon spirit for Kiryu, weapon levels, & some other stuff. Akiyama gets this really cool move where he kicks them up into the air & then can beat the crap out of them in the air with them until his heat bar runs out. Boss battles are still great, a lot of the fighting is still really fun, & there're still a lot of badass moments. This game is basically Yakuza 4 but refined & much bigger. For the cheap price you can get the game on sale nowadays & what is an overall great experience I do recommend this game for anyone that has played Yakuza 4 (which is a must to understand this game).
Before reading this review, you should know that my opinion may be quite biased. I went into this game with very high expectations, as I was told the game would essentially be Yakuza 4 2.0 (Y4 is my second favorite yakuza game. Apart from Y5, I've played Y0, K1, K2, Y3, Y4, and Judgement. Judgement currently holds the title of being my favorite.). Up until I've played this, I thought Y4 had the least lucid story within the LAD series. I could not have been more wrong. While many plot points in Y4 are indeed very questionable, the overall story is still understandable and very enjoyable. Y5's story, however, is so ridiculously convoluted that I had more or less completely lost track of the story after part 3, and was practically begging for the game to end when I got to the finale. Jam-packed with plot twist after plot twist, you start to lose track of the characters' desires and motivations, making it hard to find many of the most important characters (besides the main 5 protagonists) very likeable. The finale (along with much of the rest of teh game) felt extremely stretched out, and didn't feel nearly as satisfying (or logical) as the previous game. To be clear, it felt less like a conclusion to the story and more like a collection of battles, if that makes sense. I didn't feel there was a solid goal to be achieved. This game also has a massive content problem. Not too little content, but rather far, far too much mediocre content. Are you familiar with the expression about how the camel is a horse that went through a committee? Well Y5 feels like the epitome of that. So many features seem to have just been shoved into the game without proper scrutiny in an attempt to make the game more interesting, but all they do is make it more bloated. Often times I found myself saying "Why is this here?" to various aspects of the game such as that weapon-training one, where you have to "train" with weapons you find on street so you have the right to use the fancy ones you need to purchase. Again, why was that there? Just to inconvenience the player? There are many features that do not necessarily hinder any gameplay like the one I just mentioned, but their presence can make the side content of the game feel overwhelming. It pains me to leave a negative review on a title of a franchise that I keep so dear to my heart, but Y5 just isn't a good game. As to whether or not I'd recommend a fairly seasoned LAD player to play this... I feel conflicted. On one hand I do not regret playing this game at all. I still had quite some fun here and there, RGG nailed the combat (which usually goes without saying, but of course there are exceptions.), and the staple iconic substories were still very much present, but on the other hand, there were times where I felt like the game was being slow on purpose just to mock me. If I were to advise anyone about to play this game, I would tell them to stay patient, not to expect any satisfying feeling once the game concludes, and to try to hang on to their sanity when the plot starts making absolutely no sense in the slightest. TL;DR: Sloppy story and bloated with mediocre features that don't lead to much. Decent combat, though.
Peakuza 5, its too short tho also where is naked Akiyama
john yakuza, red yakuza, green yakuza, baseball yakuza, girl yakuza
Wins the fight in the street just to have someone immediately start a fight with you. Then Wins that fight just to happen again [Yakuza 5 moment]
