SEGA’s legendary Japanese series finally comes to PC. Fight like hell through Tokyo and Osaka as junior yakuza Kiryu and Majima. Take a front row seat to 1980s life in Japan in an experience unlike anything else in video gaming, with uncapped framerates and 4K resolutions. A legend is born.

So they Delisted the original game, DELETED MY REVIEW, released a PAID "upgrade" and buried this one? Stupid corpo doing stupid corpo stuff... nevertheless, this is the ONLY version I will ever own and play. Worst case scenario, I'll raise the black flag. I ain't gonna buy some fake upgrade version.
FUN FACT: while this has been delisted on steam in favor of the much more expensive "director's cut," the original version is still available for purchase on good old games dot com :)

Впервые удивился серьёзным сюжетом! Yo. Kiryu-chan! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240940813 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240939783
As ones say "It’s the only game where you can hire a chicken to run your property business, send a TV presenter to Area 51 to recover weapon parts, smash a random thug with a bicycle, and then go sing karaoke just minutes later" Go play it.
This was my first Yakuza game, and after playing many of the games that follow (1-6, the first spin-off on PSP, and some of the zombie one) this is still, without a doubt, my favorite in the series. The way it portrays and critiques 1980s Japan's economics during the Reagan era and incorporates this into its mechanics is spectacular. Its over-exaggerated violence fits extremely well with the extreme wealth and economic violence that ensued. The characters and story also enhance this portrayal, with Majima's character being the biggest standout of this game. His introduction cutscene is one of the best. Out of the Yakuza games I have played, this is without a doubt in my mind the most interesting and consistent entry.
the wind blew me underground into betting on an illegal wrestling match! i had no choice but to gamble!! 99 million on jennifer!!!!
As much fantastic things as there are in the Yakuza franchise - SEGA dropped the ball so hard with their politics and marketing, that I -REFUSE- for a lifetime to give this legendary game franchise any other chance. While this game is still incredibly competent, the release of the Director's Cut murked any love I had for this franchise. The blatant disrespect to release new versions with questionable upgrades, so you can get milked for money again. That's how you treat one of most your loyal customer base? Laughable. Everything is such a mess now (including the recasts), for me this franchise belongs now to the grave with its forgotten older Dreamcast brother. Once respectable and pushing the boundaries of hardware, now its just a pathetic husk of its former self. That's what greed does, it kills everything around it. You swept your adult fans, who grew up on the PS2 versions, to the side, only to market the games for a younger potential customer base, that cares about memes only? I'm sorry but this is desperate. Now you have to include the legendary 2Pac (wow, how classy, because 2Pac was one of the most hardcore Japanese gangsters, everybody knows) in your games, because YOU KNOW and the other psychopaths around you want every last cent you can squeeze out of your customers. You will see where your strategy will bring you. Now for Snoop Dogg - I won't waste my time, on how deluded this man is. Death Row Gaming? I wouldn't trust him in anything for being a literal fence sitter, but you do you. Just give voice acting jobs to delusional soy-drinking manlets to reprise actual men with integrity, honor and an actual deep voice - that's how good you are. Kazama Kiryu deserved better. And I deserve to cut off my fingers for giving SEGA any kind of money.
