Don't get me wrong, the game looks cute and fun and I was looking forward to this game but sadly the controls have been ignored it seems. Sure the game is a lot of fun but this is aimed at the keyboard controls which were badly crossed over. - Cannot remap controls - Cannot change the window-size of the game Sadly I could not get far in the game because you cannot remap the controls. I have to move using the W,A,S,D keys but also the keybar controls 1-9 on your keyboard and your 4 other options are x,c,v,z making it a horrible control layout! It is all squished to the left side of your keyboard and you cannot change this. Only controls you can change are x,c,v, & z but they so far ar minor as they are merely inventory. Even if I remapped these it was still not fun to move around because other buttons you cannot change are too close to the move buttons and these buttons are your actions. It is like the developers thought we only have one hand. At least let us move with our arrow keys and not have all the controls on one side of the keyboard, that is just weird and uncomfortable. Unless you have a normal PC, you won't see the whole screen because it is bigger than your average laptop screen-size and you cannot change this! I hope this is patched in but until then I am getting a refund :/ sorry, cute style or not it is unplayable with controls like that. It is something that should not have to be addressed these days and should be common sense for PC games. Port or not, the keyboard controls should not have been ignored nor expect everyone to have & use a controller.
SWISH! SWISH! FIGHT! CRAFTING IS FUN! So me and my buddy are big fans of Terraria, and Wondership Q caught my attention a few days ago. I decided to stream it to him this morning as I tried the game out, and almost immediately we rolled in laughter at how basically every action of the cute little protagonist cat is voiced. It's nonstop, seriously. I really wish they had displayed this in the videos, because it seems there's no way to turn it off and I'd probably have a much more enjoyable experience after the laughter subsides. Anyway, the game is as about as cute as you'd expect with some fairly pleasant, simple music. The building elements seem like they can go pretty far but the game's awkward with a keyboard and with very limited re-mapping, for those of you wondering. I really like how you can control your ship independently of your character, I was surprised. There needs to be a fair amount of quality of life improvements though before I'll really invest more time in. Pros: Adorable world. Very smooth animations with nice sprites. Controlling your ship and character independently offers an interesting gameplay mechanism. Cons: Voicework, if only because it just repeats far, far too often with no option to disable. Very limited re-mapping if you intend to play with a keyboard. Hard to mine a specific block sometimes; there's not just a range to be able to mine, at least not early on as far as I can tell. It's only what's directly next to you. I'm going to recommend it mostly because I think the target audience will enjoy this, and it's fairly priced. If you're interested at all, watch some videos, know you're going to hear the voicework a -ton-, and if you don't like it there's always Steam's refund policy! 2 hours is more than enough to know if you'll enjoy Wondership Q.
Pros * Crafting of weapons, items, and parts for your ship. * A ship that you can move independently while controlling your character. Great mechanic for a sandbox game. * Has a creative mode where you can make your own adventures. Cons * No multiplayer (The PS vita version had some type of multiplayer, why not this version.) * Easy difficulty (Wish there was harder difficulty options available.) * One save file for story mode. (They should of gave at lest 3-5 just in case your the type that likes multiple save files or have someone that wants to try the game as well.) At its current state i give it a 6 out of 10. I like the game a lot and it has a nice charm to it but i feel that they could of added a lot more.
This game is amazing its a good game i like it Pros Good gameplay Amazing art Story rich cons graphics are strange voice acting is a litte subpar but its still a good game maybe you can improve this in the future but for now 7/10
I refunded this after about 25 minutes of gameplay. The game itself was pretty fun and I didn't even mind the character vocalising after literally every action but the poor controller support for a game listed as "full controller support" killed it for me. The game knows when you're using a controller rather than KB&M but there are no seperate icons for the interface so navigating menus is difficult and I accidently skipped several tutorials. The default setup for the controller is awful and if I didn't have the option to remap the controls via Steam Controller I would have refunded it even faster.
Read the full review: https://alboreo.wordpress.com/2016/07/23/wondership-q-review Note: I imported the Japanese version, Airship Q, and played it that way. I take the PC options into account in my review. Wondership Q, formerly known as Airship Q, is a Japanese take on the 2D Building/Survival genre. While it has its moments, the game's lack of options and horrible sound effects hold it back from greatness. Its simple gameplay can be fun, but may grow repetitive. Pros: Cute graphics. Airship gameplay is fun. Story mode is enjoyable. Cons: No options, unexcusable for a PC game in 2016. Horrible sound effects that you cannot turn off. Gameplay can grow repetitive quickly. Verdict: Wait for a sale or a patch, because right now it is not worth $10. I would perhaps recommend it at a lower price for fans of the genre, at least as a simple time-waster.
THWACK THWACK THWACK LETS CRAFT

I received a Steam key from Cygames for the purposes of review. This does not affect my opinion in anyway.
Wondership Q is at first glance Terraria with Cats. And it sort of is that. However, it’s got a few tricks up it’s sleeve to really differentiate itself. Which includes Cats. Unfortunately, despite it being a really fun game to play, it’s not something I can really recommend.
The Review
With it’s Adorable Aesthetics, a cool and fun ship mechanic, and an interesting premise of providing these sandbox-kind of games with a full plot and direction for the players, Wondership Q is a surprisingly fun time-killer for a few hours. It’s Airship almost acts like a natural extension of the player, and being able to control it separate further compounds that. The game’s adorable characters and well-composed (if generic) aesthetic also really nails a unique level of presentation that makes it very unique. While Wondership Q seems to be dangerously close to being a Terraria Clone, it does have enough tricks on it’s sleeve to give it’s own identity and differentiate itself through it’s more kid-friendly approach to the game. But what doesn't Wondership Q do right? Unfortunately, quite a lot. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=734629507 Wondership Q suffers from a lot of poorly executed ideas and a flimsy amount of polish. This is going to be first apparent in the game’s building mechanic. The reticle for placing blocks in this game is determined by the direction you’re facing and the stance you’re in (Crouching, standing). Because of this, building your ship is a freaking nightmare, as you’ll be destroying/removing blocks you didn’t intend to move and before you knew it, you destroyed your entire ship trying to fix some weird mistake on your build. Digging down on certain islands is also a disaster due to being unnecessarily time consuming as you have to deal with the reticle only allowing you to dig paths in mostly 4 different directions. The reticle seems to be designed in mind of say, a Console Game (as such, the game did have a PS4/PS Vita release in Japan under the name Airship Q). But it seems completely strange to me as to why they designed it to be this way, as 2D Crafting/Sandbox games on consoles used something in the vain of Terraria where the Right Stick or some other function would allow you to aim which block you want to destroy or place. Wondership Q only lets you build/destroy in four directions (Left, Right, Lower Left, Lower Right), which is incredibly limiting. However, to say it’s exactly like a 2D Crafting game like Starbound or Terraria is actually kind of false. Wondership Q takes more in the veins of a 2D RPG with it’s Story Mode, where you go through a handcrafted map activating statues to level up your crafting skills, then craft new items to further progress and collect more statues. Later on, you’ll be tasked with finding four sigils which will be needed to eventually end the game. It’s a interesting premise that ultimately gets bogged down by it slowly becoming more repetitive and exhausting as you play along. Each island in the game doesn’t feel particularly well-designed or takes any use of the game’s strongest mechanics, and thus the entire game devolves into you just thwacking at blocks blocking you from your objective, craft and use a item, get objective, continue progressing. It doesn’t help that the game juggles between being incredibly easy and being a confusing mess. Dying in the game has little to no punishment, Bosses can be defeated in a matter of seconds with either the Sword or a Ship loaded with a ton of cannons, and for the most part the game gives you a generous amount of hitpoints from the get-go. However, it faces issues like a rough English Translation making it difficult to make sense of how items work or what the game wants you to do, and the Physics is incredibly janky and weird to work with, due to it being seemingly unexplained how to make really stable structures in the air. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=735341673 Wondership Q’s other main deal breaker for some may be how comparatively weak this PC version of the game is. It has no way to modify or change the audio settings (which especially becomes a problem because of the game’s annoying voice acting, sound effects, and generic music), no native video settings or way to make it completely full-screen, and no in-game key mapping (You can manually change it via .ini file). The game could had also really benefited from giving the mouse cursor more use (such as the mouse cursor being the reticle for aiming where to place blocks), as it completely over relies on a finicky Keyboard-only setup that’s uncomfortable no matter how much I try to rearrange it. It also doesn’t include Multiplayer, which was a huge component of the original Airship Q, and it not being here as a local or online method of playing the game with others is surprisingly disappointing, considering it was one of the major selling points of the original game. Unfortunately, Wondership Q just doesn’t execute and challenge it’s premise very well. It’s main mechanic of a controllable and modifiable ship gets severely underused in the end, and is only mainly used to take down certain bosses or go around as an act of transport. Wondership Q begins as an enjoyable experience, but slowly descends to something that’s repetitive, and often far from challenging the moment the concept of it’s Story Mode starts seeming poorly-designed and unengaging.
TL;DR - [Wondership Q is a cutesy fun 2D Crafting/Survival Game that’s missing an astounding amount of challenge, depth or tightly-designed systems to really stand a chance as something worth it’s pricetag.]

Final Recommendation: Not Recommended, Wait for a Sale

For more reviews on all sorts of games, follow Lots' o Giveaway's group curations and reviews here!

Be sure to check out the rest of my reviews for LOG on OpenCritic @ http://opencritic.com/outlet/380/lots-o-giveaways
