Alright look, here's the thing: THE NEW COLOSSUS is a meaningful evolution of MachineGames' superb gameplay as introduced in THE NEW ORDER. If you like games about shooting degenerate Nazis and bigots, you're going to have an absolute blast, because there's plenty of that. There's more varied environments to do that in, more customisation and, even though I have some reservations about the stealth system, at times, there's a fun and engaging shooter here with a decent amount of replay value across both its assassination missions and collectible hunting. Is the story as good? So-so. Though still on the kind of ambush-oriented backfoot of rebels in a Nazi-dominated world, THE NEW COLOSSUS spends much more time on characterisation and exposition, which I'm certain many will find a mixed bag. That's not just down to the blatantly left-wing (beyond just Anti-Nazi) views, but also Blazkowicz's childhood and the relationship he has with his father. For me, it's reasonably effective on the whole: there's reasons to care about the complicated questions of how to view Sigrun against Grace, the fanaticism of Frau Engel in her quest to annihilate Blazkowicz once and for all or the brutal upbringing our protagonist suffered through. It can be obnoxious, and I'm certain that plenty of people will find it that way when they'd much prefer to be fighting the scourge of the Earth. I'd be lying if I said I didn't wince with the directness of its challenge to the views of the characters, which risks making them offputting. But, at the same time, the game revels, possibly at its best, in that same bombastic attitude: riding a flame throwing tank down the ghetto-ised of New Orleans, or tearing apart the Reichstag in a mass assault, the action set pieces are still solid and strong enough to make you overlook, if not forgive, the more eccentric personality at its core. With a stronger sense of world than its predecessor, THE NEW COLOSSUS is still an enjoyable follow up and worth playing, even if it does revel a bit too much in the sentimentality of its ideological characters over the to-the-point vengeance of its predecessor. There's still plenty of carnage to enjoy and a satisfying tee-up for the future Wolfenstein. It's just a pity it ended up being YOUNGBLOOD...

This is really an incredible game. I thought the storytellling and voice acting very adeptly portrayed life in the resistance under a Nazi-run United States. The play mechanics were an improvement over New Order with a more varied set of weapons. A decade later the enemies are less rickety steam punk and more polished threats. I was amazed about the amount of world building the developers committed to, from in game newspapers to primitive emails to actual full songs in German arranged in 1960s-esque styles.

⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (4/5 stars) Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is insanly good compared to the 2 others before this, but I think the reason they were bad is because of the insanely bad optimizations. Other than that, the story in this one is way stronger and I’m looking forward to playing Wolfenstein: Youngblood after this. The graphics and mechanics are very cool, and there are things that make you want to replay it to get different story outcomes and cutscenes, a lot of times. There are also some side missions if you want, which is always nice I guess. The only negative thing I have about this game is the mechanics and, still in 2026, the FPS optimization is sadly insanely broken. This is a console game if you have above 60 FPS, the game can crash or freeze your whole PC. So you need to lock it at 60 FPS to not get this problem.
