No. Just no. Save yourself the money and the brain aneurysm. The servers are terrible and hosted in third world France. Constant losses due to lost connection in multi player. Have an awesome fibre connection? Doesnt matter. Maybe ok if you play single player and campaign only. Multi player 10 vs 10 is diabolical mayhem with players dropping out due to bad connections and children surrendering when their feelings got hurt in the first few minutes as they took some losses. If you are a masochist and like being the 1 in a 3 or 4 on 1 in 10 vs 10 then maybe this is the game for you. 9 of your team mates all want to go left so you get whacked on right. Brain dead AI take over from the surrender monkies on your team and just mill about doing nothing. Just no. Stay away.
The game feels heavily unbalanced. Soviet units are just flat-out better—one T-72 can easily take on two Abrams, which makes no sense from a gameplay or balance perspective. On top of that, Soviet equipment is often cheaper while still being more effective, which only makes the imbalance worse. The unit system also feels like a downgrade. Compared to WGRD, not being able to build an open deck removes a lot of flexibility and creativity in how you set up your forces. It ends up feeling restrictive rather than strategic. Then there’s the whole “historical accuracy” claim. It’s hard to take that seriously when they’re planning a Latin America DLC that seems more driven by modern politics than the Cold War setting the game is supposed to focus on. It just doesn’t line up with what the game is trying to be. Overall, the game has potential, but between the balance issues, restrictive systems, and inconsistent direction, it’s more frustrating than fun right now.
Eugen created the best RTS games I've ever played. Wargame, and now Warno. Definitely an excellent game if you are the type to enjoy strategy and the thrill of military victory. 8.5/10 for me. My main gripe with this game is that I find it way too restricting to limit deck building within a single division. I hope that Eugen would implement a "Division Creation" feature that would allow me to create my own army, select my own flag and insignia, and choose uniform and colors. With this... it would become as close to perfect as I can imagine... 9.5/10 with the expanded division creation features. Highly recommended.
Just play red dragon. They screwed a lot up with this game.
The balance has progessivly gotten worse. I've never been one for the multiplayer scene, so my issues mostly stand for the army general campaigns. As Nato I feel like I'm just fighting Nato but red and more numerous. The gameplay has been "balanced" into a homogenous slurry. I feel like when the campaigns first released there was a more assymetric feeling to the battles, where as Nato on the defensive you had to rely on elasticity and ambushes, mustering your forces for decisive counters. Now it just feels like I'm smashing a horde of blue icons against a bunch of red ones constantly. Also the arti rebalance is the worst but everyone talks about that. It doesn't help the frustration that in having to balance Nato forces against Soviet forces they had to make a pretend version of the Red Army to be competative. I think if the Devs had some balls they'd do the reverse, what if war were declared, so to speak, and the Soviet shortcomings actually cause real problems, the shock of their attack sees them take large swathes of ground, but after Nato gets their ♥♥♥♥ together they are forced onto the backfoot and have to try and do more with less. Maybe give the Soviets access to the fortifications from SD2? Anyway, TLDR, like so many games, the devs have made slop in the endless pursuit of balance. Also AI art is lazy and low effort, especially for the pricetag, but I guess thats why its slop.
Lazy ass devs, the only reason this game has a player base is because Eugen is the only guys that make this genre of games. The devs break stuff and never fix it. They have no idea how to balance the game and just slap on an untested fix and call it a day. Example, fixing the bomb drop patterns, the fix was making the bombing patterns worse. CLU Mortar on 76y was op, lets nerf to the point that it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless. And this arty rework, regardless of whether you agree on if the concept behind the rework is good or not. It is an objective fact that it was halfassed. Uniform setup stats across the board, every mortar, spg etc has the same setup time. Did they rebalance the units with this new mechanic in mind? No. Did they add any QOL for the arty? No. Did they fix the bug where towed arty wont load into transports? No, in fact they added a new bug where if you queue an attack move (rightclick) SPA will just sit there frozen. Over a year for a setup time to be copy pasted and a change in firing arcs. This game has issue built up for years that will never get fixed because they are lazy as ♥♥♥♥, and the only reason they get away with it is because there is no competent competitor. Planes still will not drop bombs, reinforcement paths are still braindead, and they copy and paste everyting, arty, small arms, all will have the same stats, the CATFAE is literally a reskinned Buratino, same stats, same sound, if you zoom in on it shooting, will see it is literally firing the buratino rockets that are the same size as the vehicle and just pop into existiance at the bow. I still play this game only because there is no alternative. As soon as someone can make a semidecent competitor I'd instantly jump ship.
I just used three howitzers to cure some entrenched communists of communism. EDIT: Okay, I've got some more time into the game now, and I've gotta say that this is easily one of my favorite games. Absolutely incredible. Long before TW:40k was announced people swore up and down it was impossible to have such a game because Total War doesn't lend itself to modern warfare. My description for how it could play was this. And the developers did such a great job proving the point. I wish I had found the game sooner, but I'm glad I have it now. Will be dumping a crazy amount of hours into this with my friends. :)
