Short version: In my opinion its a steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥, DO NOT BUY IT! If you played the previous entries (MoW, MoWAS1 and 2) and you are looking for the same experience you will be greatly disappointed. Long version: I remember when a demo came out, I told myself that it just needs more time in the oven. The game released and it still felt like a beta. Then I waited because I have soft spot for this franchise, and recently bought the game because I deluded myself the devs might have fixed some things after a while. I was wrong. Gameplay is bad, simple as that. Compared to every other installment it feels even worse than MoW Red Tide. UI is very unintuitive, controls seem almost the same but soon you realize its like a fever dream version of the og control scheme. AI is braindead. Your units are braindead and the enemy units (in campaign or vs AI modes) get boosts and one tap you tank with a pistol the moment you get in range. Ok bit of an over exaggeration but it does feel like you are playing against terminators most of the time. Vehicles spinning around in circles, blind and inaccurate, they will face enemies with their ass. Infantry has holes in their short-term memory, they forget orders faster that you can give them out, troops not returning fire and getting cut down while in cover, inaccurate and slow moving. Damage is wonky your Ivan either will tank 30 shots of 8mm Mauser to his head because he is rocking a tin helmet or die to a single shrapnel hit to his pinky. I once hit a AI opponents infantryman 6 times from a DP27 only for him to duck and start healing. Vehicle combat damage is a joke as well, a shell after penetrating a tanks frontal armor destroys the engine while leaving the crew and ammo untouched. Campaign No cutscenes, no protagonists or a story tied to one unit, just blocks of text. Voice acting is pornographically poor. Text read of a sheet of paper by a guy trying to make a Russian sounding accent stuttering every now and then. You will own nothing, and you will be happy. You do not own the game you're buying a license. Visuals The world looks better now. There is more wildlife and it feels more like a small world you're observing and controlling rather than watching a diorama play out before you. The world might look better and there is more verity but when it comes to units its a clone show, yes a clone show because every unit looks almost the same. There is no verity when it comes to the looks of your troops which is also a problem when you have more than 2 units. Performance Is the only thing they fixed since the demo or rather I should say somewhat fixed since crashes tend to happen now and then but not that often. Kudos for that.
I wish I could refund this game....games change over the years that's expected. However, this is like how Assassins Creed changed from a stealth action game like most old awesome Ubisoft games, to appeal to kids, rpg boring, the sword I have isn't good enough I need to go find one that's got a purple inventory icon even though they are graphically the same exact sword in every which way just the purple inventory icon on one so it does a lot more damage. Yeah that kind of level of change here, throw away everything that made Assault Squad 2 good, and try to do this appeal to kids/esports and they somehow lost the magic of what made Assault Squad 2 so good.
Title: What Happened to This Series? 0/10 I don't hand out 0/10 reviews lightly, but Men of War II earned it. As someone who loved Men of War: Assault Squad 2, I honestly don't know what happened here. Somewhere along the way, the developers completely lost sight of what made these games special. The gritty, tactical, rewarding gameplay that defined the series feels absent, replaced with something that feels watered down and far less engaging. To be fair, I only have just under an hour in the game. But I didn't need much longer to realize I wasn't having fun. The campaign was enough to convince me this wasn't the direction I wanted from a Men of War title. Instead of being pulled into tactical decision making, I found myself wondering when I'd actually start enjoying the experience. For context, I don't play PvP in games like this. My time with Men of War: Assault Squad 2 and Call to Arms has always been focused on the campaigns and cooperative gameplay. That's what I bought this game for, and from that perspective, it's a massive disappointment. Maybe the multiplayer is fantastic I genuinely can't speak to that. But if you're someone like me who buys these games for the single-player campaigns and co-op experience, this simply isn't it. Overall: 0/10 The original Men of War formula deserved better than this. I'll be reinstalling Men of War: Assault Squad 2 instead.
I like it. But it's a very dead game. you will end up with the same 20 people all the time... and the devs dont care for the multiplayer. needs major balancing, new units/factions and bug fixing.
unplayable crash fest, lazy cashgrab, open the game: crash make a lobby, crash start a game: crash a 12 year old game such as mowasII is 1000 times better than this insult to the playerbase
People review bombing this very fun game just hate change. The multiplayer is very fun, I enjoy having to unlock new battalions or units because it gives you something to work towards. That being said, due to the review bombing, it has seemed to have lost some support. I guess people just want the same copy and paste RTS games with updated graphics. People said the same thing about Company of Heroes 3, and look how fun that one is. I would say this game is similar to Gates of Hell Ostfront with updated graphics, and more of a focus on digging in / engineers (not having to put one mine down at a time, being able to build tenches and pillboxes).
I got banned from the forums for asking about Britain and Japan. Seeing this as a 10$ deal to immediately refund because it is literally a downgrade from assault squad, unchanged from what the beta was. Screw you Fulqrum.
Das Spiel ist im Multiplayer tot.
