Not a terrible boomer shooter but I have a lot of issues with it that have killed my motivation to finish it. The game felt that it got repetitive pretty quick. The game looks great artistically. The environments, the designs, and sprite work are all really good. Weapons are fun and have a good variety. Not a fan of how the plasma cannon starts to damage you if shoot it too much and also has AoE that can damage you, which can be annoying in a lot of situations. A lot of enemies are too spongy. Boss fights are a slog. It's just the boss spamming enemies to distract and annoy you so you can't attack the boss. The big melee spacemarine enemies that charge at you at full speed are one of the worst enemies I've ever encountered. They tank so much ammo, don't slow down, and cause you to backpedal until you get caught on something behind you that you couldn't see then take a huge chunk of your health. If you use the Vengeance launcher or plasma gun (since they do a lot of damage), most likely they will catch up to you quickly and cause you to damage yourself with its AoE. Also if you don't keep shooting them after their health hits zero, they'll revive. Such an insufferable enemy that kind of ruined the game for me. Finished Act 1 and pretty sure I got through most of Act 2 but I just got annoyed by the boss fights just spamming enemies instead of being an actual boss. Maybe I'll go back and finish the game one day but for now, I'd rather not. Hope Boltgun 2 will be an improvement but at this point, I've lost interest in it after this.
Im very big into warhammer but it kinda got boring and haven't touched it in a bit still didnt finished it, maybe i should give it another shot but pretty boring after a couple hours
Boltgun is an amazing, fast-paced, and brutal old-school shooter that perfectly captures the grimdark atmosphere of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. It plays similarly to Doom but strips away gimmicky ammo-restock mechanics—you just grab your guns and mow down everything in sight. While the pixel art looks great, if this game had the modern graphics of Space Marine 2, it would easily be a mainstream blockbuster. The level design starts a bit confusing in Chapter 1, but the layout drastically improves by Chapter 2, and Chapter 3 runs completely smoothly. If you do get turned around, the built-in map assist (just press "N") guides you directly to the next objective, completely eliminating any real complaints about navigation. The Chapter 4 DLC (Forges of Corruption) is a fantastic addition! The levels are beautiful, visually varied, and neatly wrap up the game's story arc with a nice little twist at the end. If you are a 40k fan who enjoys boomer shooters and can appreciate retro pixel graphics, this is a must-buy. It’s on the shorter side, making it the perfect game to pick up on sale for an action-packed weekend. 8/10 — Would Exterminatus again!
Basically a perfect game. Provides much more fun than its worth. If I had one gameplay gripe, it would be that grenades feel kind of limited. One technical gripe would be odd frame drops, despite a decent setup. Seriously, buy this game and play it.
