One of the best fps I've ever played. This thing is so damn frenetic I've to go lie down after playing for an hour. I LOVE IT.
Sound mixing is broken. Dev doesn't seem interested in fixing. Suspect they patched the game with some odd loudness EQ settings and then introduced a channel mixer to negate all the complaints from people. Result is a completely broken sound environment; music and weapons are too loud, chainsaw, ambience, enemies, projectiles and movements are almost non-existent. I have tried every setting through monitor, headphones, sound card, registry deletes and tweaks and nothing works.
ULTRAKILL GOVNO
This game has no right to be THAT GREAT! Absolute banger. If you ever enjoyed: - Quake 2 - Doom Eternal - Cyberpunk ... And want something fast paced in the style of Eternal, but Ultrakill is a tad bit too much for you, then you must ABSOLUTELY get this one. Guaranteed hours of fun + great community custom maps.
This was one of the fpses of all time. I had so much fun playing it after a full playthrough I never want to do that again. I've got very mixed feelings about it, but I cannot deny the craft that went into this game. Anyone that considers themselves a fan of fps games needs to play this. So now I will go into what I liked, didn't like, and had funny interactions with: The Good (Things I really liked about the game): This game's core gameplay loop is extremely satisfying. The movement is tight and feels good, you start the game with schmoovement and it keeps up throughout the whole experience. The weapons have purpose and very good design behind them, nothing feels like a waste and the mechanic of sliding into enemies with your chainsaw legs feels great and is core to your survival. The game also oozes with style, the environments are gorgeous and the characters are memorable, brash, but not annoying like a Borderlands character would be. The animations and art design are very spot on, and professionally done, never really noticed anything weird about them throughout the whole game. The soundtrack also slaps. The Bad (Things I genuinely didn't like about the game): A LOT of the enemies are extremely spongy and even the most powerful guns take several precious seconds to take them out. Also, many enemies have attacks that will outright OHKO you even at full 200% HP & Armor, which is extremely frustrating especially in the later stages of episode 2 and most of episode 3, where the arena fights are very multilayered and you tend to take a cheap shot from something you didn't see and have to start over. And I played the entire game on Street Cleaner difficulty, so it didn't feel great to be running around like a glass cannon barely halfway through the game, like if this was Doom Eternal but Nightmare difficulty was considered standard or 'normal'. Also can we stop having deathmatch bosses in boomshoot, Ultrakill poisoned this genre and if we didn't have chainsaw legs this whole ass review wouldn't exist cause I woulda ragequit the hell out of this game (and the thought came up more than once during this playthrough). And if we're gonna remove the ability to quicksave during bosses, why not just remove quicksaving altogether, it doesn't make any kind of sense! The Ugly (Things that were jank or weird but ultimately did not detract from my experience): Sometimes a gun would glitch out after using an alt fire mode, and it wouldn't primary fire until I switched weapons or used the alt fire again. Usually the Waster shotgun or the Magnums. And the aforementioned chainsaw leg sliding was almost stronger than it lets on, sometimes it felt weirdly optimal to slide into certain enemies instead of just shooting them outright. Those same enemies would also be ones that would do high amounts of melee damage, so the idea of 'slide into them first before they swing and kill you' is a strangely optimized strat for a lot of mid to high tier monsters. And speaking of chainsaw sliding, it felt weirdly precise in a lot of situations, where I'd have to slide multiple times to clear out a large crowd of trash mobs. Another thing I noticed is that enemy pathfinding would just be broken in certain arenas where you could back off and they'd run around like they couldn't find where you were, so you could pick them off at your leisure. And it feels weird to be playing a boomshoot game where the regular shotgun has more power and utility than the super shotgun, but maybe that's just personal bias. Also, don't believe the enemy beastiary's list of weaknesses, it was written like a weird old strategy guide from the 90's. Monsters are weak to a lot more than the single attack they tell you about in the beastiary. Ultimately, this game is worth playing. It will frustrate you, it will beat your little ass, but you'll have so much fun kicking ass and enjoying the scenery that it all balances out. Looking forward, apprehensively, to Johnny returning...
Sorry to say that I can´t recommend this. The soundtrack is really really good but the mixing is broken. The levels seemed very promising at first, but it´s the same stuff over and over again (big rooms with some minor platforming). It just drags on way too much. Try Dusk if you are looking for this kind of game.
its more of a skating game than a actual shooter, enemies are sponges and your guns barely do any damage
It was five bucks on sale, a steal for that price. It's just a fun, fast-paced shooter game. Feels very Doom inspired with how much fast you move around, and how fast you can move while firing. The chainsaw dash is a nice touch. No long intro, you just jump right in. The levels are pretty short (like 10-15 mins), so it's great for short bursts of gameplay. My only complaint is that the dialogue text is very small, and there's no text size scaling option. There's a mod out there, but imo such basic accessibility features should be included. I hope the developer will add this feature.
Maps are not very-well designed in that you often get lost on where to go next. It’s fun when there’s action, then it just stalls while you track back your steps looking for the next zone with empty hallways. I enjoyed Doom Eternal, but not this.
