Play the enhanced version of the original game released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Years have passed since you stopped Hell’s invasion of Earth. Quarantined for humanity’s safety, the UAC research facilities on Mars were abandoned and forgotten...until now.

If you want to play oldstyle Doom Games, buy Doom 1&2. They are way more fun, even today- Doom64 uses a little more advanced engine and has some interesting levels. But most Levels are bad designed, with very anoying timesensitive puzzles and too many bullet-sponge enemies.
Solid gunplay. Charming sprites. Clumsy—albeit respectable—attempt to emulate the Quake atmosphere within Doom using dark ambient music (which only managed to replicate the feeling of a hangover). Absolutely garbage level design. I made it as far as my familiarity with random outdated navigation rules would allow, before simply giving up and going back to play Doom 2 instead. The first pack of levels lack any flow and feature a highly disorganized, confusing structure. 99% of the tasks required to advance involve finding a random trigger that opens a path in another random room, with no apparent connection between the two. Progressing through the levels becomes a guessing game where you try to figure out what just happened or what you are supposed to do next. When there is only one possible option, it’s fine; but when you have three or four at a time, you can be sure that backtracking starts to become exhausting. The best part is when you have a clear path—like finding a keycard for a specific door—only to discover there is some other random prerequisite you need to meet first. That’s assuming you did something that technically should trigger an effect, since there are triggers that aren't as obvious as pressing a button. Sometimes things happen and you don't even realize it, because the game makes no real attempt to let you know. You know it's bad when not even traps coming out of nowhere bother you, but this does. The only saving grace is that they’re at least short. Doom is a simple game; communicating where the player needs to go to progress should be straightforward, not a process of elimination. Yet, somehow, they managed to demonstrate a shocking level of amateurism in this regard. They seem to have gotten the resource balancing wrong, too. Within a few minutes, I was swimming in so much ammo that I could have drawn a gallery of obscene images on the wall with bullets—and still had enough left over to feel safe in the Warhammer 40k universe. I do not recommend it.
Doom 64 is the forgotten Doom II sequel. The game has new graphics, new enemies, and new mechanics while maintaining everything that made the original great. Definitely a must-have for any fan of the original games.

8.5/10. Doom 64 is a vastly underrated masterpiece that deserves to be recognized as the "real" classic Doom 3. Rather than sticking with the bright, arcade sci-fi look and metal soundtrack of the first two games, Midway and id Software went in a completely different direction. They traded the rock riffs for Aubrey Hodges’ incredibly creepy, atmospheric ambient soundscapes, redesigned all the demon sprites to look far more sinister, and turned the game into an occult, high-tension horror experience. It's beautiful, dark, and a crucial piece of Doom history. Pros: + Outstanding atmospheric horror art style and lighting. + Aubrey Hodges’ ambient sound design is incredibly eerie and memorable. + The introduction of the Unmaker, a legendary upgradeable super-weapon. Cons: - Some of the level progression puzzles and hidden switches can be a bit cryptic to find without a guide.
Doom 64, a classic in video games, is truly a great game. Its story is the least important aspect; as the creator stated, its pacing and gameplay feel excellent. I won't say anything about the graphics, because, well, it's a game from the 90s, but if the enemy designs are like those in the original Doom 1 and 2, they're good. It's a fun game, perfect for playing in an afternoon. It has its pros and cons, but that doesn't detract from the fact that it's good and fun. 8/10
Since I don't have the glasses of nostalgia for this game, I'm able to see it for what it really is... and it's meh. The ambience, soundtrack, and environments are great. Unfortunately, most levels are painfully slow. I found myself doubling back and not knowing where to go on almost every level; more time was spent running around aimlessly than killing demons. I'm not going to finish this game, purely because it isn't very fun. However, if you're nostalgic for it, this version provides a convenient way to play.
