FOR THE EMPEROR
就这个类DOOM爽!
As a fan of OG doom and 5th ed 40k I had a lot of fun wiping out black legion very solid experience over all, 9/10 s few pros: -Art looks great, very naustalgic from all inspirations -Plays very well, super smooth. -Everytime I died I felt I deserved it. -All the weapons feel great, and I found a use for every one of them, but the titular boltgun felt the best, as it should! -pace felt solid, high intensity arena battles mixed with slow sneaking around areas. -great music! a few cons: -the secrets being timed power ups was a little weird and some of them were unclear how they worked -the final boss fight was annoying with the sorcerer's shield. -Not enough boss variety! really only 3 boss used over and over again for a game this long isn't enough! -the purges were kind of unclear how they worked, sometimes it seemed like I need to kill a big guy, other times it just seemed to end when I killed little guys but these are minor things that didn't really detract from the experience P.S. Ambuls were a fun inclusion!
It is everything I wanted it to be
Boltgun (as I just like to call it) feels like it wants to be a more modern shooter with a lot of classic elements. Mostly it succeeds in this and the game is fun to play. There do however seem to be some balancing issues. Not sure if it is just me but sometimes it feels like your health and armor drain a bit too fast from damage. Also the amount of damage some guns do sometimes doesn't really make sense. These both definitely DON'T break the game, but it is noticable. The last nitpick I have is with the enemies. Most if not all "standard" human looking enemies feel like meat for the grinder. They don't need a lot of shots to kill and I can honestly not really notice much difference in lifebars. Their "champion" buddies however are straight up bullet sponges and will need a lot more shots to get killed. This is the vibe I get with most types of enemies. They are either meat for the grinder or kinda annoying bullet sponges that feel like they take way too long to kill. Using grenades helps but you only have a few before you run out. This also does NOT break the game but, again, is noticable. All in all it is a fun game that does give you the feeling that you are playing a more modern shooter with retro vibes... or maybe a retro shooter with modern vibes? The action is fast paced and usually quite satisfying. Just beware of some levels that have "cheap deaths". Happened to me twice. Not a problem at all but to me it felt like it added literally nothing to the gameplay. Once you progress in the game you will also get newer and stronger weapons which offer nice variation. Bosses are basically just bullet sponges that spawn smaller enemies. Like... all of them. There was only one boss that was more challenging because it was able to shoot a beam that I could not dodge, no matter what I tried. Get it for a good price and it will give you a few hours of fun. Just keep in mind that the optimization is not the best if you ask me.
By default, I avoid 40k games that focus on the Imperium because they're just a very overdone faction and we desperately need literally anything else, but this one is genuinely fun and refuses to take itself seriously so for once I actually recommend an Imperium game.
A perfectly fine boomer shooter for a couple hours, but it gets very samey and monotonous. Maybe if there was more to the melee stuff the gameplay would have more staying power. I dunno. Very cool aestheic.
Stupid gory fun! Plays like a dream and is worth every penny.
