This game is basically if smash bros, and the modding community smoked 10 pounds of crack, had hot sex, and had a baby
the only game where ronald mcdonald can fight obama and sans with a gun
Rivals of Aether is one of the best platform fighters I’ve played outside of Smash. It takes the core idea of that style of game and adds its own unique mechanics that make it stand out. The gameplay is fast, smooth, and very skill-based. Movement feels great, and the lack of traditional shields puts more focus on positioning and timing, which makes matches feel more competitive. Each character is unique and built around elemental themes, which gives the roster a lot of personality. Learning different characters feels rewarding, and there’s a good amount of depth for players who want to improve. Another big highlight is the workshop support on PC. The community-made characters and content add a ton of replay value and keep the game feeling fresh. Overall, Rivals of Aether is a fantastic platform fighter with strong mechanics and a lot of depth. It’s a great alternative for anyone looking for something similar to Smash but with its own identity. Gameplay: 9/10 Great | Overall: 9/10 Great
can play as ronald whilst fighting spamton, sanic, and chomper from pvz 10/10 experience caused my wife to leave me
I'm getting pieced up by Ronald McDonald while simultaneously getting my ass dug out by metal sonic. This game is normal without the workshop but as soon as its enabled it feels like i took acid with a mixture of salvia and am now living as a controller getting smashed on a desk because their raging at marvel vs capcom 3. 10/10 would take acid again
Still the best platform fighter on Steam, with a somewhat active online playerbase even after almost a decade of it's release and a sequel that became the main game of the series. Every characters looks and plays different then other platform fighters, no "1 to 1 Melee Samus but it's an armadillo". With 18 characters to choose from and each play different than the other, even though it might look like 18 characters isn't a substantial number, there is a character for every playstyle. Don't like the characters you are given? Go explore the Steam Workshop with hundreds if not thousands of submissions by players. Some don't like the visual style of the game because of it's pixelart but even if you aren't a fan of its looks its a must try because it runs on low end machines and it gives the game a unique look, and I personally love the way the game looks. The soundtrack is also great and each song captures the feel and aesthetic of the stage really well. A must try if you are into Melee, this game was practically inspired by Melee even dumbing down the wavedash input to make it easier for newcomers to the genre to have more consistent wavedashes and dash around the stage with ease. The game ditched the grabbing and shielding from Smash and replaced the shield with a parry, while it takes time to get used to, mastering it would make you unstoppable. And also it plays great on keyboard.
Great game. Simple mechanics lead to creative thinking and surprising depth as you figure it all out. Cool mods, cool characters, cool community. This game can mean a lot or a little to you but it will be fun.
This has been said thousands of times at this point, I'm sure, but the workshop alone makes this game worth it. I've had so much fun with this game I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to Smash.
peak game, its smash melee but with every fictional character ever this is 0.0000000001% of the cast: a human, a monster, and a prince from the dark. then gandalf the grey then gandalf the white and monty python and the holy grails black knight, and bento mussolini, and the blue meanie, and inkling the boy, and are you ready lets do this leeroy, and kaepora gaebora, and dora the explorer, spongebob squarepants, and chosen one: sora, sepiroth, chun lee, master chief, and dedede, big smoke, professor oak, every single teletubby, gordon freeman and the dragon spyro, and cowboy curtis, and jambi the genie, robocop, the terminator, captain kirk, and darth vader, lo pan, superman, every single power ranger, bill s. preston and theodore logan, spock, the rock, doc ock, and roy, our boy, nurse joy and RED pyro!
So I've been playing Rivals of Aether for a few hours now, but I've noticed something that I don't really like about it. The game is really fun, sure, but the story mode feels so insanely difficult that it's not very fun to play. Story mode is something I'd expect to be beginner friendly like story mode in similar games is, not exclusive to pros like it feels like. What's worse is that in versus against level 5 opponents, I'm usually really good even without modded characters, which tells me that the story mode characters are at least level 6. I just find it a little dumb how the thing I was expecting to be relatively easy is one of the worst things ever.
