Wagotabi: A Japanese Journey

Great game for early and returning learners. Recommend a run through on hiragana before starting if you're unfamiliar, but not absolutely necessary. I also have Wagotabi on my phone, which I have played many more hours, and the cloud saves share the progress between devices. Great game!

I remember studying Japanese and it was boring. This game makes learning Japanese fun and enjoyable! The graphics are like that of the old GBA games and i love 2D games. You have to challenge NPCs to master what you learned from the other NPCs. The missions are straight to the point so you won't get lost on what to do. I just wish we can be called by our "kana" name than being called "hohoho" LOL

Fantastic game, a good balance of gaming and learning, re-using words you've learned without getting repetitive. I appreciate that you can exit at any time, so I could do short, 15-minute chunks per day instead of waiting til I had a ton of free time. Also really appreciate the reality of moving around the country and becoming familiar with the geography, although it's never made a main focus. The challenge of reading/ listening to speech and replying is fantastic for driving home understanding of sentence structure and grammar points. There was one test I got stuck on where I could not for the life of me figure out what exact phrase would unlock a door, but I did eventually get past it. Absolutely recommend for anyone looking to take their Japanese from abstract book-learning to day-to-day usage.

I am using this game to supplement other study materials, and I have to say it has been profoundly helpful. The repetition that is required to 3-star challenges, score-based minigames that incentivize one to learn kana, and the structured pacing of meeting "instructor" NPCs who provide new vocabulary or grammar lessons all contribute into making this a valuable purchase for anyone learning Japanese. ありがとうございます！

J'apprends depuis environ un an et demi avec la méthode "Genki" (je suis actuellement au chapitre 12) + livres d'histoires simples bilingues + le livre "les kanjis dans la tête", sans compter les jv, anime, films et divers sites internet d'actualité et culture, pour donner une idée de mon niveau actuel. La découverte de ce petit jeu est vraiment appréciable, surtout pour entraîner la compréhension orale, qui est actuellement mon plus gros soucis en tant qu'autodidacte. Je ne sais pas dans quelle mesure il est efficace pour quelqu'un qui ne se contenterait que de ça (ça ne me suffirait pas, j'ai personnellement besoin des explications détaillées sur la grammaire et la conjugaison fournis dans mon manuel), mais en complément, c'est vraiment super, d'autant que le jeu suis (pour l'instant, j'ai fini une préfecture) à peu près les chapitres du Genki dans l'ordre, que ça soit niveau du vocabulaire ou de la grammaire. C'est un excellent moyen de réviser de façon un peu plus ludique, surtout pour fixer le vocabulaire récalcitrant, ou pour pratiquer l'utilisation des particules, qui me posent encore un peu problème parfois. Ce petit jeu a trouvé sa place dans ma routine quotidienne d'apprenante en japonais, merci aux développeurs ✨

If you play this game as an addition to a course or Japanese learning app, there is a lot you can learn from it. However, if you think you can rely solely on this game to learn Japanese it will chew you up and spit you out within the first hour of the game. There is an emphasis on learning Kanji and there are very few repetitions of any new words, kanji or grammar you have "learned" within the course of this game but all of it is required to continue your journey. Since I have been using an app for a year I had a good head start and I still find it hard to keep up most of the time. But the fact that you interact with "people" and there is some kind of a story makes it easier to remember words and phrases as they are less out of context compared to app based lessons. It feels more like a conversation than random repetition. So as an addon to other tools for learning Japanese, I quite like it. Also it explains the grammar and intricacies of the language quite well.

На момент написания обзора я пишу пробники по JLPT N4 и игра ВСЕ ЕЩЕ мне полезна и, я уверен, будет полезна когда дойду до N3 и далее. Wagotabi уникальна в своем роде, и основная ее задача не научить вас какой-либо грамматической связке, не вбить вам в голову кучу лексики и иероглифов, А ИМЕННО искусственно воссоздать среду носителей языка, чтобы можно было через игру проживать потенциальные ситуации непосредственно в самой Японии и проникаться ее культурой, поданной хоть и максимально просто, но на родном языке. Если ваша цель выучить язык, то сделайте упор на учебники или видеоуроки, эта игра лишь вспомогательный инструмент, но как вспомогательный инструмент - она шикарна P.S. очень жду Хоккайдо т.т
