About
Underrail is an old-school turn-based isometric indie role-playing game that focuses on exploration and combat.
The game is set in a distant future, when life on the Earth’s surface has long since been made impossible and the remnants of humanity now dwell in the Underrail, a vast system of metro station-states that, it seems, are the last bastions of a fading race.
The player takes control of one of the denizens of such a station-state whose life is about to become all that much more interesting and dangerous, as our protagonist is caught amidst the conflicting factions of the Underrail as they violently struggle to survive in the harsh underground environment.
The game's turn-based combat features many different weapon types - pistols, rifles, crossbows, energy weapons, sledgehammers, knives and more, each with their own advantages and drawbacks.
The player is also able to learn powerful psionic abilities from one of the three psionic schools:
Metathermics - Burn your enemies alive or freeze them to death.
Psychokinesis - Use the power of telekinesis for offensive or defensive purposes or electrocute your foes.
Thought Control - Assault the minds of your enemies by overloading them, instilling overwhelming fear, creating deadly hallucinations and more.
For those looking to avoid direct confrontation, the game offers a set of subterfuge skills. Move around the world in stealth like a shadow, lockpicking doors and hacking computers. If people have something you want, you can often just pickpocket them. But if it does come to blows, you can use devious traps to stack the odds in your favour.
Underrail features an elaborate item crafting system. A vast majority of the armor, weapons and some other items encountered in the game can be crafted, and some are exclusively acquired through it. Crafted equipment tends to be superior to that which is scavenged or purchased in terms of raw numbers, provided you are investing in your crafting skills.

wait, im starting to think this game isnt actually undertail that everyone talks about
do not bother if you do no like old games, you will complain a lot. but if you do give it a go and keep an open mind. let yourself get addicted
Wow, what a game. I'm writing this just after finishing my playthrough. I wasn't expecting much going into underrail, I just thought It was a game with a cool looking art style and some fun turn based combat. Coming out of it though, I'm blown away. For my playthrough I tried to look up as little as possible, I searched for a guide on what some of the attributes do and some of the later perks I might be able to get but aside from that I went in completely blind. I ended up using a burst, assault rifle / shooting spree, aimed shot, sniper rifle build late game, with absolutely zero stealth. I'd just run in guns blazing and come out on top most of the time. I decided not to use the psi abilities in my playthrough so I could focus on being better with my guns and other equipment, although the psi abilities do look like a blast to use. One of the most well written and engaging story's and worlds I've taken part in. I don't have much experience with the crpg genre only having played fo1 and fo2. But I know that it absolutely lives up to and may even exceed those games. I can't wait to see what this team gets up to with underrail 2, because they completely smashed it with the first game.
This game definetly isn't for everyone, but if it is, you will absolutely love it. Punishingly hard if yopu don't take the time to learn the games mechanics, and the open ended world lets so many different types of character builds to be viable. I have played and replayed this game at least a dozen times and I still look forward to my next playthrough. HUGE warning for new players: SAVE OFTEN! You can soft-lock yourself in this game very very easily if you do not save often.
i survived Deep Cavern and should do you. 10/10.
guys this isnt undertale...
That old school fallout 1/2 feel. Any game with modular and configurable difficulty settings wins big in my book.
D&D random combat you lucky you win combat you don't have luck you lose no stretegy needed increase difficulty is make the game unplayable not hard to challenge :p no skill play need here only luck.
I bounced off this game 3 times because I didn't really understand the character building. But once I looked up a character guide and mostly followed it I had a lot of fun exploring the world and fighting enemies and doing quests. Now that I beat it I have a better grasp and could probably do it again with my own build, but if you're having a hard time you should consider trying someone else's build to start out with. I hope there are more cool areas in the next game, the unique locations were my favorite part.
