About
Uncanny Tales is an episodic horror game where the scariest things aren’t monsters or the supernatural — they’re people themselves. Each story is a new chilling episode, inspired by real-life fears and disturbing situations.
You are the new reserve caretaker, who came to the Altai wilderness seeking quiet and income. But the picturesque landscapes conceal a dark secret: local residents and reserve workers whisper about unexplained anomalies in the taiga. Authorities dismiss all incidents as accidents, but soon enough, you will realize that peace in this place is merely an illusion.
Before starting your duties, you will experience the last working day of your predecessor. Perform their usual, routine tasks. Through their experience, you will see exactly how routine transforms into something terrifying.
Your job requires extreme attention to detail and strict adherence to daily obligations.
Atmosphere and 2006 Details: Immerse yourself in the aesthetics of the Russian heartland in the early 2000s, featuring primitive technology, a sense of nostalgia, and the oppressive feeling of isolation in the wild.
Control Center (PC): Your old computer is the heart of your operation. Use it to monitor the perimeter and diligently complete your daily reports.
Patrol by 4x4: Drive across the vast location in a reliable, aging Soviet-era off-roader (UAZ). This is your primary means of transport in the deep woods.
Isolation and Communication: Communicate with a colleague via an old radio. Radio contact is your only line of support.
Checking Phototraps: Regularly inspect the phototraps set up for wild animals. Something that should not be captured may be waiting for you there.

The only game that is worse than The Casting of Frank Stone
QUENTE!
Aber The Watcher? Man muss sich diesen miesen Text also jedes Mal aufs Neue reinprügeln. I really dig these Fears to Fathom-style story games and all the clones that come with them, so the Uncanny Tale series definitely caught my eye. The demo for The Watcher was actually pretty okay—turns out, the demo is literally just the prologue. Now, I'm usually pretty easy to please, mostly because I just love this slightly goofy horror vibe. But The Watcher? Honestly, it’s an insult to the entire genre and a bold claim to even call itself a "horror" game. The prologue is decent enough and actually picks up some tension toward the end. Spoiler alert: That’s pretty much all you need to experience to get the full The Watcher package. The main game kicks off just like the prologue: You play as one of these watchmen, start your new job, and the game attempts to build a story. Calling it a "story" is generous—it's generic as it gets. Looking back, the random NPC banter was unironically more engaging than the actual main plot. Visually, it looks decent. But that’s where the compliments end. Now, onto the dumpster fire: Softlock Central: The game froze on me multiple times, forcing a restart. Every single time, I got thrown back to the very beginning of the chapter. Unskippable Agony: Dialogues cannot be skipped. You have to endure every bit of awful text over and over again. Pointless Busywork: Repairing cameras and filing reports has zero impact on anything. The game does not care if you get the info right or wrong. By the end, I was just typing absolute gibberish—who cares? Did I select the right weather? Doesn't matter. Total waste of time, even though the setting actually had potential. Flow? What Flow? Days get skipped constantly and the tasks are utterly meaningless. You're bombarded with constant time skips and environment changes via black screens, completely killing any momentum. Dollar-Store Horror: You get a grand total of two jumpscares, both so cheap they wouldn't startle a goldfish. The "Grand" Finale: The horror aspect finally decides to show up in the last 10 to 15 minutes. A tiny bit of tension, a quick reveal of who or what the bad guy is. But in the end, it doesn't matter because the ending is just sloppily thrown together and rushed out the door. The prologue plus those final 15 minutes would have been more than enough—but hey, then they couldn't have charged $5.99 (or whatever this garbage costs) for it. To top it all off, you get a premium selection of bugs: Translation Masterclass: Hitting ESC reveals that the settings menu is lovingly named "Back." Russian text randomly pops up in the middle of English sentences. Phantom Audio: I left the car behind and walked on foot. 500 meters later, the engine sound was still blasting right into my ear as if the car was sitting in my lap. Bug-Palooza: Arriving at the cabin, the very first task was glitched (hooray for restarting the level again), and the achievements are broken too. All in all, a massive disappointment. I genuinely love this genre and I’m really not picky, but this was a trainwreck. Cold Road was pretty sloppy too, but it handled the horror and atmosphere miles better. I haven't played 1992 yet, but after this farce, I'll be looking at it with extreme side-eye. The Verdict: Zero out of ten. Wouldn't even recommend it to my worst enemy.
