About

Step into the splendor of a Renaissance port city in Sigh of the Abyss, a dark fantasy visual novel with a choice-heavy narrative and optional, inclusive romances.

As the Envoy, you are the product of a bloody ritual—mortal in appearance, yet imbued with the monstrous powers of the Abyss.
The men and women that sacrificed their life for yours guide you with their whispers, showing you how squalor and excess coexist side to side, how most toil while a few feast.

Did the Abyss bestow upon you supernatural strength and agility? Do you have the power to manipulate the shadows and see what they see? Perhaps your dark gift is prying open the minds of others only to break them and have them do your bidding.

The four humors color the tone of your responses and your personality, from the carefree sanguine to the thoughtful phlegmatic, from the anxious melancholic to the fiery choleric.

Will you stay friends, turn into bitter rivals, or seek something more with your companions?
Alpheon seeks refuge in a dissolute life without responsibilities. Without a roof over her head, Sylas resorts to crime to survive. Malec has been entrusted with a blood-stained legacy. As mages, Marané and Ascanio are shackled by their power to a life of isolation.
Pick the romantic preferences of the protagonist to determine who will flirt with you and reciprocate your affection: see only the kind of romantic content you want.

Ever-expanding and always craving for more, the city of Carolise spills out of its walls. Lavish trading posts are established while beggars and vagrants watch, and the divide between nobles and peasants grows into a rift. Who will you save and who will you condemn?

Sigh of the Abyss is hands down the best visual novel I've ever played. The world is incredibly rich, the story is extremely interesting and well-paced. The characters are all very fleshed out and 3-dimensional. Marane's struggle with being a member of her culture's diaspora resonated with me in a way that I have never encountered in fiction before. I literally cried. Ascanio's romance route is my absolute favorite of all time. I just can't gush about this game enough. UGH AND THE ART!!!! THE ART IS SO GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE play this game if you haven't already. I am in dire need of another game from this studio in the future, looking forward to it tremendously!
Didn't like it :( Too many details that don't make the story rich, but long and boring. A very slow progress of the plot. I was forcing myself to finish the game, but gave up on 9 hours of gameplay
TAKE YOUR TIME WITH THIS GAME, Truly! The world is rich with depth, moral dilemmas, and beautiful lore. Your patience is rewarded with a ending that leaves you speechless. I was hesitant in buying the game for its price, but I'm so happy that I did! You get HOURSSSSS of a visual novel, and even then you end up wanting to go back and replay it once more, not wanting to say goodbye just yet. It's a rare find in the world of quick cash-grab romances. I urge you to play it and enjoy the ride yourself!
I LOVE IT I LOEVE AIT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA PLEASE LET ME ROMANCE BOTH SYLAS AND MARANE AT THE SAME TIME THEYRE BOTH 2 PEAK TO CHOOSE FROM...
The first thing that caught my eye were the original and artful graphics. Therefore I played the free prologue Shadow Bonds to decide to buy this or not. Obviously I liked it and bought this. I started getting weary when the prologue didn't fit what happened in the full game at all. You meet the same characters but you meet them for the first time. I thought maybe Shadow Bonds was set somewhat later into the game. However that wasn't the case either. I don't know what Shadow Bonds was, it doesn't make sense within the full story. I still liked the characters, the art and the setting for the most part. At least enough to be interested to keep going. I felt like I got to know the setting well enough without maybe an hour but it took another couple of hours, about 5 hours in, until the story finally began to start of. The more time I began spending with the game the less interested I became. Y ou're introduced as an Envoy of the Abyss, whatever that means. That brings with it some sort of responsibility that I'm not going to elaborate on and some magical powers as well. But more and more... everyone seems to be some kind of envoy or has magical powers or is attached to a god or anything. If everyone is special than no one is special. Besides, i hurt the world building. People are being manipulated by magic willy nilly as if it's nothing without much consequence. Half the population uses magic it seems while the other half, even though they know of the existence of magic, just obliviously takes everything. Either way, you're the envoy in the beginning. Then you're an envoy. Than you're one of a dozen envoys of the Abyss. Than you meet a god who also has envoys. That's more or less when I didn't care anymore. Shadow Bonds does a bad job of setting this up. The full game is much lamer. Much slower. Much less interesting. Much less happening. Less romance. Less action. Less story. And the story has nothing to do with this one. The best thing about Sigh of the Abyss remains my first impression: the artwork.
This game was extremely enjoyable and liked the fact I can get different outcomes and reactions by doing different routes. Too bad I can't have both Ascanio and Malec in a poly relationship lol! Makes sense but digress I'm greedy. If there is ever a sequel or spin offs or more games like these, I'll definitely buy them!
While this game is long, it is one of the reasons I love it. There is so much lore and story telling that it really makes you feel like YOU are actually in the story. I also love how many options there were so it did not make you feel like you had to go down a certain path and once again, it make you feel like you are actually playing a real person. And don't even get me started on the art and the voice acting. <3
It's much better written than it has any right to be. I'm old enough to be picky about my stories and it delivers a well crafted fantasy tale with some real creepiness and mystery. The romances are slow burn but satisfying. I sat on it for a long time because I thought the price was a little high for a visual novel, but I'm very glad I pulled the trigger.
