how is such a graphically simple game 87gb?
I don't even know where to start. This game delivers what I wanted from the Silent Hunter series way back when. What I would imagine being able to do with Silent Hunter, this game actually does. The realism, the graphics, the crew management, the boat maintenance. It all fits together very nicely and creates the most immersive simulation game I've ever played. This is a patrol I had- Got depth charged and sunk to the shallow bottom of the English Channel, going completely silent to throw off pursuers, having a squad of sailors wear rebreathers to fix the leak and eventually pump enough water out to regain buoyancy, surface just in time escape suffocation- Most of the crew survives to see another patrol. That is a tense experience only this game can offer. If you're fan of Das Boot, you're going to love this game. if you are a fan of WWII naval history, you're going to love this game.
I travel half of a world to the objective. sink the guarding destroyer. then the fkin trolley ship sinks me with the gun because MY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CAPZTAIN REFUSES TO MAN THE 88!!!! FIX YOUR ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Such an amazing, nerve racking authentic experience. Originally I bought this game for 8 pound off of a 3rd party key website but the game was so good I felt obliged to purchase the (new at the time) Type IX DLC (which did not disappoint at all, I use this uboat all the time for anything now) at full price. The devs deserve this after getting 17 patches in less than a month after an update. Amazing game, amazing devs. 10/10
I REALLY wanted to like this game, it brings fond memories of the hours I spent playing Silent Service as a kid, and the emotions of some great movies like Das Boot. But, it just doesn't feel like it's a finished product. The controls are not intuitive, nor are they always functional. When I hit "pause", some part of me expects the game to... well, pause. And it USUALLY does, just not every time. The time lapse/compression feature is nice, but when trying to collect crates of tires from the wreckage of one of the early missions, it would take 4 in-game days, and absolutely nothing I did could speed that up. Most menu/dialogue navigation during the tutorial took several more steps to complete than should be necessary - and while that's a small thing, it was actually a warning sign of the lack of polish I'd be experiencing throughout my game play. Volume, especially the voice acting, is very low. And using British accented English speakers to portray German sailors was an odd decision. Character creation would not allow me to change the voice type on my captain. I've had multiple freezes, with the latest one locking up my entire system. There are typos/grammar issues in the subtitles. The developer constantly fiddles with the price (generally around $30 USD), so it would appear to be on sale in spite of still being about $30 USD, so take a moment to check that carefully before blindly hitting Buy. Taking the time to line up a 3 torpedo salvo on a broadside destroyer, watching them close on the clueless enemy, and then seeing *HIT!* *HIT!* *MISS!* followed by their ship sinking into the deep blue sea is SO INCREDIBLY rewarding! But then nothing would allow me to target the trawler it was escorting! I had to surface and manually sink it with my deck gun (and taking some damage from their own deck gun). I've got 10 hours in, and bought this on sale, so it's going to stay in my library. I'm hoping that they spend some time, money, and effort fixing it instead of releasing DLC boats in the future, because I REALLY want to like this game, and it makes me really sad that I don't. :(
I really, really want to like this game. But it's got so many bugs, broken missions, and poorly implemented mechanics. It can be very fun, however I would say there are older games that are more fun. Especially if you want the simulation aspect. EDIT: A big reason I gave this a thumbs down is because most of these issues have been around for a very long time with no fixes in sight.
