I was very excited that we finally got the release of Twisted Tower after 5 years in development and following Brush. However, I feel a bit let down come the end. The game itself wasn't BAD but it didn't feel like it really had an identity of it's own, which was surprising given how unique it looks/feels in today's market. The story itself felt very lackluster and cliche.
The big reveal at the end that VC is Vincent's father was actually more of a letdown than the story that I had concocted in my own head. Given the emphasis on our nickname of "Goldfish" the whole time and sister having schizophrenia (which is generally genetic and passed down), I thought there were be some sort of twist at the end that we were in a padded cell imagining all of this. Like the whole thing was some fantastical fugue state in our mind that we were reliving over and over again, all built on trauma's throughout our lives. Kind of like SuckerPunch. Instead the story was far more simple.
The player controller felt good, but the mid-air dash was a bit janky and still needs some ironing out. Overall, I'm happy with how the game turned out visually and mechanically. However, the level design, little variation in fights, and lacking story detract from that. This was a nice love letter to Bioshock, but that might be why it feels like it's lacking identity.

Great game for a low price
I've been watching Thomas's youtube for a while now but hadn't tried any of his previous games. I'm pleasantly surprised all of the content on his gamedev videos is backed up by a really nice game; kinda like how one can put a face to a name when you finally meet someone you haven't seen in person. So far, it's got a great mix of beautiful music, jump scares, engaging fps with enough challenge to be fun, but not an overwhelming experience for those who aren't the best at entries in the genre. And if that's not enough, personally, the intriguing story will definitely keep me around long enough to finish the game. I'm glad to see your work over the last 5 years pay off, Thomas! I look forward to finishing this game and whatever else you've got in store!
It was fun, engaging and a all around good time. All this while remaining short, sweet and long enough to be fun without overstaying its welcome.
Gameplay: 5/5 Challenging, but worth it. Graphics: 5/5 Reminds me of Bioshock in a way so that's really neat. Story: 4/5 I greatly enjoyed it really, until the ending. Ending: 2/5 I was expecting it after a while and hoped maybe destroying the cameras would warrant a different ending like a secret, but no dice. Still I was underwhelmed as it was, without spoiling it, both expected and weirdly creepy as well with how it was ended. I actually feel bad for Vincent. Would I recommend this to people to play, for sure, it was fun and even with my deaths which were expected, it was worth it. I just wish there was more replay value for me in it. As it is, It's probably a one and done now that I beat it.
After completing the roughly 4hr play time of Twisted Tower I was left feeling a lot of different things. Firstly I've been a long time fan of Thomas so seeing this game evolve over the course of the last five years has been amazing. You can feel the blood, sweat, and tears that went into developing this game. The love that was poured into every environment, sound effect, enemy, and weapon is felt. The combat is fun, fast paced and punchy. The level design and puzzles although not ground breakingly innovative are still a blast to explore and solve. And the music... GOD THE MUSIC, its perfect and added a lot enjoyment. Sometimes I didn't want to continue playing and instead just sit in the lobby and take in the music and scenery. Now that all being said I do have a few issues with the game and would like to offer some constructive criticism. My one and only complaint is the story. The story although pretty in your face can be missed if you don't read/listen to the notes and recordings. This is not an issue. However the build up and pay off as well as some of the characters fell a little flat. Everyone did a terrific job with voice acting and the script was enjoyable although a little campy at times. A very hard thing to do when writing a story is to stick the landing. And unfortunately I don't think Twisted Tower does. Then ending (not sure if theres multiple) can been seen from a mile away. Before the half way point I had basically already guessed the twist and Mr. Twisters identity. There didn't feel like there was enough time spent with Charlotte to develop her as an actual love interest. It would have been nice to see more sections where its just her and Vince having chemistry alone before she gets taken away because as it stands she feels more like a goal than a character. Mr. Twister felt a little one noted and I think diving more into his backstory would have been nice to flesh out his character. Everyone loves a villain with actual problems and Mr Twister does not. The supporting cast felt a little thrown in but not a big gripe on that specifically. More time to develop these characters face to face and giving them more unique problems would have been nice to see but I dont think it takes away from the overall enjoyment I had with the game. Overall Twisted Tower is absolutely worth every penny and while the story struggles a bit with the ending, I still enjoyed my 4hr play time and would absolutely recommend the game if you are on the fence. Congratulations Thomas on an amazing release. Can't wait to see what you do next. - A fellow game dev
This game so far has been an absolute blast. It definitely has it's hiccups, but for 15 dollars its a decent playthrough. 15 dollars is a regular sub at Jersey Mikes. As much as I love that place, I think I'd rather at the very least four hours of entertainment. Well done Thomas.
Twisted Towers is the perfect indie game for 2026. If you've been waiting for something to fill that BioShock sized hole in your gaming library, this is absolutely worth checking out but the best part is that it doesn't feel like a copy. It takes that familiar mix of atmosphere, mystery, exploration, and unsettling storytelling and puts its own unique spin on it. The world is fascinating to explore, the atmosphere is fantastic, and there's that constant feeling that something isn't quite right. That's exactly what I want from an indie game: a developer taking a great idea and running with it instead of trying to recreate something we've already played a hundred times. My only real complaint and honestly, it's more hilarious than anything is Piper. Your nephew is always dancing while talking to you. It is so bizarre and completely out of place it pulls me out of the otherwise immersive game . Every serious conversation has this guy dancing like he's waiting for the next TikTok trend. Twisted Towers is a fantastic indie experience and one of those games that reminds you why indie developers are so important to gaming. If you miss games with atmosphere, mystery, exploration, and a world that makes you want to uncover its secrets, give this one a shot. I played on my home PC, specs attached, and on the steam deck, both ran like butter.
awesome
Pros: - Ending is incredible, oh man that ending! - Solid by the numbers shooting mechanics - Can be completed before it becomes a chore to play - No massive game breaking bugs (worst I saw was some objects disappear under certain unlikely conditions) - Good price Cons: - Lacks larger world building outside of the main plot setup, this can potentially warrant either a remaster or a DLC to expand the plot
