This game has been really fun so far to unwind too! The main cast are all lovable and unique, the backgrounds and locations are beautiful, and the combat has been easy enough to get into so far! Looking forward to when femme Alex is available to play!
Tropical Hearts is a visual novel, time management, RPG hybrid. It is currently in early access and thus, there may be bugs with the game or other issues: some things may even be subject to change. With that in mind, my review will reflect its current state. I may return to update my review once the game is classed as completed. The beginning of the game feels rushed. You are introduced to the characters on the most basic of terms as you fly to your vacation destination with them. Their stay at the lounge to drink was a few sentences long: their night out clubbing wasn't much better. It felt like it was pushed very quickly to where the devs wanted it to start, as opposed to the actual start of the game. It's a shame because this would have been a good opportunity to properly introduce the characters and create some world-building. The group of friends might all know each other, but all I know about them, from a reader's perspective, is their single strongest trait and their names. The story only really takes off after a gas leak that magically "awakened" the entire group of friends, aka, makes them immune to the negative impact of the gas and gives them magic powers. It is pointed out several times how it's rare for this to happen in a single person, much less a group of people that all know each other. They are asked to investigate where the gas leaks are coming from. That's it: but they all start talking about needing battle training and preparation as if they've been told it will be a long task full of fighting, not just an investigation mission. This is the problem when care isn't taken to craft a story but instead made to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2937598529 The combat is your basic turn-based style. A basic attack, special attacks, items and escape are all there. The fights themselves are easy enough. If you attack a mob with an element it is weak to, it will be stunned, and thus, unable to attack until the effect wears off. This can be a huge advantage to winning a quick match, but the same can also happen to your party. Defeat for the enemy can mean money, experience points and items for you and your friends. It makes me wonder where wild boars keep their humungous staves though. Your party will consist of three members whom you can change outside of battle. Everyone receives exp, whether they are in the active party or not. I think this is great as it means you won't have to grind exp for the characters you don't use as often. Of course, levelling up gives you access to new abilities and stat points to assign however you wish. Some of the character's special skill sounds can be annoying after a while though: especially Rhea. Adding a few varieties could help mitigate this. At certain points, while trecking through the mysterious island, small conversations with your party can be triggered. These often entail the group acting in such a way that contradicts the dangerous situation they are in and reinforced the idea that five random young adults with no survival training really shouldn't have been sent out on this mission, especially when those five individuals only came on vacation to Paradise Island to drink and party. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2937598628 During the time management portion of the game, saving mid-conversation and loading will send you back to before you picked that option for the day. This can also result in the person you wanted to meet with no longer showing up on the map. The skip feature won't work, acting as if you haven't already had part of the conversation before you saved. This can mean that grinding out affection points can become somewhat tedious if you pick the wrong answer. This part of the game is, as anticipated, where most of the visual novel stuff will take place. You are given the option to speak to people, do tasks or go out gathering. Spending time with a friend can also unlock the ability to spend time with a completely new character. As with most time management games, you'll want to only pick one or two people to hang out with to fully max their story and affection out. Spreading yourself too thin will likely end with an incomplete story arch. An interesting little addition here is that the options are colour-coordinated to highlight whether you will be chatting with that person, or doing something else with them, such as upgrading your weapons or mixing cocktails for stats. It isn't wholly necessary as hovering over any option will tell you what will happen, but it is aesthetically pleasing nonetheless. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2937598078 You might have noticed that I haven't written much about the characters themselves, and that is because I felt as if I didn't get to spend enough time with each individual to really comment on their personalities. There are a few hints of background information and character development that will likely be added on in the full release, but for now, it's mainly dirty jokes, innuendos and flat-out flirting. Additional information:

It would have been handy to have a screen size option. The default cuts off both sides of the game on my monitor. A bit frustrating when trying to assign talent points as I can't see what each line is for.
A section to explain stats would be helpful for people who don't play many RPGs of this type. Building your characters inefficiently can make the fights frustrating and I was unable to locate a refund option for talent points.
A little more information on how and when you can leave exploration mode would have been appreciated, or a place to refer back to the info could be handy, as fat-fingered me clicked a little too quickly.
I found out the skip button doesn't work at all after I started a new game, not just in the above instance that I mentioned.
Sadly for me, this game didn't offer enough to keep me interested and I found myself unable to finish it: granted I'm not a huge fan of turn-based combat, but the other reviews for this game made me think I could overlook that and still enjoy the story nonetheless. this just wasn't the case for me. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2937598315 To add a little more information here, Tropical Hearts' early access only covers the first eight days of the game, I managed to make it to day seven before I called it. Overall I'd not recommend Tropical Hearts to anyone I know that also isn't interested in turn-based combat; and as far as plots go, I personally think there are better ones out there. That isn't to say this is a terrible game - some people appear to have really enjoyed it, but it just wasn't something that suited my tastes. If you enjoy silly (and sometimes ridiculously out-of-place) banter, furry games and a side of RPG, this could quite possibly be a title for you. The game is in early access so I expect there might be changes down the road but overall here are my first impressions: Visuals & Sounds: Great music and art all around! I do enjoy the style of art applied to both the characters and the backgrounds. I also find myself tuning into some of the nice beats loops for certain scenes throughout the narrative. Game Play: First thing first, if you start the game with out having the opening scenes and dialog on auto play or skip, you'll be sitting in for a good amount of time. There are some choices here or there to make, but I believe (so far) that they were not consequential to any later play story arcs. There might be room here for a "synopsis" page on the menu. As for the game itself, you'll need to train, gather recourses, and do some grinding to level your characters, a lot of RPG standard fair. The combat system is pretty simple and it seems to me the RNG is fair so far. It will require more time for me to play to get a hang of the tactics and identifying when best to use skills but I think it will be easy to master as I put in a little more time in it. The use of time phases between the primary expeditions combines elements of task management including relationship mechanics. I hope in my later plays to see how that impacts character development and the story as a whole. For people looking for a casual RPG with a very beautiful presentation I highly recommend this one.
Tropical Hearts is a turn-based RPG & Visual Novel developed by KokoLori Studios that combines the elements of action and romance. The game takes players on a journey to Paradise Island where they will embark on an adventure filled with mystery, magic, and love. The player takes on the role of Alex Alvarez, a maned wolf with a love for adventure and a mild authority issue, and will have the option to play as a male or female character. Along with Alex, players will also get to know four other friends, Neelu Solanki, Rhiannon 'Rhea' Morrison, Tyra Kane, and other characters who will play a crucial role in the game. As the player sets foot on Paradise Island, they are drawn into a battle against mysterious, otherworldly creatures. To defend the tropical paradise, players will have to use their skills and magic to target the weaknesses of their enemies and work together with their friends to defeat them. Players can choose from a vast array of skills and will have the option to unlock unique romantic skills with their date. The bond with their friends will play a crucial role in the battles, and the stronger the bond, the more havoc they will wreak in the battle. In addition to battling against the mysterious creatures, players will also get to explore the four massive battle islands of the Paradise Island Archipelago and unravel its secrets. Along the way, players will collect precious materials to upgrade their weapons, craft new items to aid them in their quest, and try out various experimental cocktails from the veteran bartender at the hotel bar. There will be over 75 story events in the game, giving players the opportunity to go on fun and spicy dates, relax at the beach, explore the jungles and caves of Paradise Island, or dance to the latest dance floor hits. As the player delves deeper into the mystery behind the otherworldly attackers, they will have strange dreams that will lead them to uncover the truth. The game's narrative will be driven by the choices the player makes, and they will get to experience the road to each other's hearts, both with their friends and romantic interest. The player will have the opportunity to build relationships and experience romance, and the choices they make will impact the outcome of the game. Each of the five friends has their own unique personality and backstory. Alex is a free-spirited and easy-going person who loves to explore the world, and their gender is up to the player. Neelu Solanki is a playful snake with a love for adventure and mischief. Rhiannon 'Rhea' Morrison is a gentle person with a sharp mind and strong will, and Tyra Kane is a freelance beautician with a love for lightning. Each of these characters has their own skills, elements, and primary weapons, and players will get to see them grow and evolve throughout the game. In conclusion, Tropical Hearts is a unique game that combines the elements of action, romance, and RPG, and offers players a journey filled with mystery, magic, and love. The game's rich narrative, vast array of skills, and diverse cast of characters make it a game that is sure to keep players engaged and entertained. The game offers players the opportunity to build relationships, experience romance, and make choices that will impact the outcome of the game. If you're a fan of turn-based RPGs and visual novels, then Tropical Hearts is a game that you won't want to miss!
Charming dating sim / RPG. My wife and I enjoy the writing and the nice character art. The RPG things are less our jam here, but there's plenty of room to just enjoy the characters having a good time together and going on dates. It's pretty polished and complete for an Early Access game too!
though I've only had the early access experience at the time of this review, I'd say I am liking what this game potentially has to offer, including a wholesome cast, an intriguing premise, and beautifully rendered backdrops set in a tropical world. For my experience, it took about about an hour getting to know the main characters and letting the story to settle in before finally getting into some of the standard visual novel gameplay and resource-gathering. Another hour after, we finally get into exploring and the turn-based combat. Though the latter was more bare-bones, the aesthetic is quite pleasing to the eye. With the devs certainly watching the feed, I look forward to any updates and improvements they will make to this game.
A charming and captivating tropical adventure! Charming characters and passion for the project ooze from this game. With what feels like inspiration from the Persona series as well as old flash Sim Date games, this title captured me within the first hour of game play. I find myself invested in the characters and needing to keep reading and learning, wishing to be a character along side this wonderful group of friends. During one scene, I felt i was with them, discovering the same abilities they were. The music fits the scenes and adds to the ambiance in a meaningful way, without pulling the players attention without overshadowing any of the other assets. The hand drawn backgrounds fit the scenes and make you feel as if you are truly in the world with them. Even in alpha, this game feels polished and complete. I eagerly await more developments as this project progresses. I love this game very much and will play it over and over as my time allows! -Rez, Bachelor's in Game Design

Very promising game as of the making of this review. Dispite it still being Early Access, there is a lot of fun to be had. I'm not a big Turn-based RPG guy, but the battle system from what I could tell, is definitely pretty good. A few close calls, only to eventually come out on top. The dating sim portion is pretty entertaining as well. With such a diverse cast of characters, shenanigans are bound to happen. There were quite a few times where I actually laughed out loud from puns and meme references. I look forward to playing more of it in the future and I wish the devs the best of luck in bringing this game to its completion!
A very enjoyable game thus far. The hand drawn aesthetic is beautiful and vibrant, Dialog is nicely written, characters are nicely diverse from each other. Combat is simple yet effective Few hrs of enjoyment (at time of current release build) with replayability for a good price tag - looking forward to further updates coming
