The Devil's Face is an impressive first-person horror game with a gripping storyline. You play as Jonathan, who embarks on a journey to the afterlife. There, he will face judgment for his actions and endure the hell he has created for himself.

Surprisingly entertaining horror game that explore similarities between Heaven and Hell. If you've played any indie horror games in the last year, you'll notice that they all use the same UI and assets. This game is no exception. The beating heart in the lower left corner, the inventory system, and the lighter that requires a steady supply of fuel will all be instantly recognized. As if that wasn't enough, the game begins with the overused cliché of a car crash. The gameplay doesn't bring anything new. You explore the area, inspect objects, encounter scary events, and search for keys and things that will allow you to move the story forward. Fortunately, the originality begins to creep in the instant you begin playing. This is, nevertheless, a more streamlined experience. What I'm trying to point out is that you always find yourself in smaller spaces with limited freedom of movement. There is always a clear path to the next section of the game, and there are no tiresome scavenger hunts where you must find a needle in a haystack. I was terrified about the lighter's limited fuel. However, I'm pleased to say that it was never an issue because you're finished with an area long before it runs out. Of course, if you go slowly enough, you will ultimately run out and be alone in the dark. Searching for items in the dark is not fun. The Book of Demons is a key component of the game. It not only contains tips for the current room, but also verses and entries that have no meaning but still enliven the experience. Unfortunately, those entries are easy to overlook because the book only displays those that are relevant to the current situation. The graphics are good despite occasional flickering issue. Your mostly wander in the dark and don't get to see the details, yet it still manages to create an interesting environment. I really appreciate Christian paintings, the overall concept and abundant use of color red. Some may be annoyed by the fact that the game repeatedly moves you to the same rooms, which change somewhat each time, but I didn't find it too bland. The only minor criticism is that the game overuses jump scares. There's always a light bulb that goes out, a gasp, or something that jumps in your face. Although there are sections where someone is chasing you, they are not frustrating because there is a set path where you must run. While achievements are not something that should be pointed out, their description deserve a mention. Instead of the typical "you finished chapter one" or "you beat the game," you receive long phrases that appear more like codex entries. This was incredibly refreshing to see.
Another night, another mediocre horror game

My friend is attracted to the lava people.
I've been (attempting to) kick back every evening and play/start a horror game, whether it be as small as this or a longer more fledged experience. Last night's pick was The Devil's Face, a psychological horror/walking simulator sort of blend with some interesting visuals. The story has an interesting premise to it, and not one I've seen explored in such a way in many other horror games. This does come with a negative however, and it's tied to the fact that the game is barely an hour long. With a story and idea as ambiguous as the one the developer/s is trying to tell, the game needs to be longer, with more game play mechanics. I'd love to see this story expanded upon because I felt the ending to be incredibly lacklustre in contrast to what could have been. There's potential here to tell a terrifyingly grounded story despite the surreal hellscapes you go through. I will admit I don't really like the usage of sound effects I've heard in plenty of other games, the sound in general in this game is pretty generic, and kinda loud? Sometimes it works to its advantage, even if it's completely accidental. There is an instance in which a creature pops up outta nowhere and zooms towards the player with a sound so egregious I had hiccups afterwards. Right on cue with the jumpscare however, the game crashed and I was led to believe it was intentional. I soon found out this was not the case but it was a decent spook. Also I find it amusing that the game starts off with a disclaimer saying that it uses footage from real exorcisms and actual documents, but then follows this disclaimer with another saying that none of it is based in reality and any similarities are coincidence. A little contradictory if you ask me. Most of your time spent in this game will be wondering through P.T-esque corridors, getting jumped by Satan, and running away from a couple of monsters, but the moments where the game shines is visually, during the sequences outside this room, there's some seriously trippy sh!t in this game and it's effect is doubled by the constant reflecting of everything. I was worried i'd get sick of it but it's quite pleasing to look at. The colour-scheme being all red is an interesting choice and one I was a little apprehensive of at first due to being colourblind, but i tweaked some contrast settings on my monitor and was sweet to go. also the lighter mechanics are kinda unnecessary, I don't really have anything else to say about them. The Devil's Face had moments that surprised me, but they were weighed down by the short runtime, underdeveloped story and lack of interesting mechanics. I'm still going to give it a solid recommendation however, due to me being picky when it comes to what I consider a "good horror game." I paid $7 for this game. Would I say you should do the same? maybe, to support the developers, but also for what you're getting, I personally would wait for a small sale. This is fine, it's harmless, it'll scare plenty of people, it just has problems, as all games do. I'm excited to see where Tzavis Studios goes from here, and be sure to wishlist their upcoming game "Into the Depths of Despair" The Devil's Face gets a
6.5/10
Check out my Curator Page for more!

This is one of the best horror experiences I've had in a long while! Really unique visuals, it can get very trippy at times. The writing is also on point, you'll reference your book of demons a lot as you move through some mildly loop-like scenario's as you delve through the characters afterlife, and the lines are well written and well voiced. it felt very much like P.T. at times, but grew past that comparison into its own game very well. You've also got multiple endings on hand and some secrets to discover. I loved this game and I'll keep a close eye out for future projects from this dev! (not for nothing, my lights actually flickered wildly as I streamed this, actual demons?)
good graphics, plays smooth. lots of options, can rebind. decent game. and you can jump, that means a lot to me lol https://youtu.be/COzAqWQykzY
Very good game with a very nice atmosphere and graphics, the jumpscares at nice points and not too much hunting as it should stress you without tiring you. Keep up the good work!!!
I was shocked how this game turned out great visualz a must play if you enjoy getting scared and creepy enviormental atmosphere jumpscares as well and felt like hell there they really embodied what hell can be like .
Το καλυτερο ελληνικο παιχνιδι τρομου. Ευχαριστουμε θερμά για το παιχνιδι!!!
good game
Edit: Adjusted to positive because of price drop. If you get this game for on sale at 2.99 it's worth it, but I'd not pay more than that. The Devils Face is a odd one, the visuals are garish and the reflections make it almost obnoxious to look at. I enjoyed the story, it's not great but it was enjoyable enough to keep me plodding ahead. The jumpscares? depends, i'm a fanny and jump a lot and this game was consistent with the jumps, one of the mods said I'd racked up 40+ jumps just during this game. But depending on your anxiety levels you may not jump as much. The biggest issue this game has is the audio, I had major issues with the audio clipping (short cracks of audio when it transitions from one ambient sound/song to a other) and the light bulbs, christ almighty I'm so sick of that "light bulb breaking" noise, if you've played lots of indie horrors (specially on itchio), you know the one and this game uses it a lot, I'm talking every minute or two and it get's infuriating. It's a good little game even though it does the P.T. trick of dragging it's content out which at this point i'm getting very tired of in horror games. The price as of right now is £6.69 (why not 6.66) and I know devs you feel it's worth that due to the time you've put into creating it, but I advise you drop it to 2.99, you are currently asking for twice the money as Devour, the same price as Chillas Arts Night Security, and more than Welcome to Kowloon and this is not on their level sorry. And keep in mind this game can easily be finished under 2 hours, and people will abuse that specially at this price point, hell Summer of 58 got abused and almost made the dev quit and that was 3.99 and one of the best indie horrors in the last few years.
