A couple of the botted reviews suckered me into checking this out (was rated very positive for the first hour upon release). I'm not going to refund this off the strength of the passion and effort put into this by the solo dev and small team of two behind him. Unfortunately Samurai Ronin's Path is fundamentally flawed and marred by the sluggish nature of the combat. This bad boy is as stiff as Grandpa Sawyer on a Sunday afternoon. For a game that doesn't offer much in the way of story, such unresponsive controls are a deal breaker. The game offers a dodge, parry, and 3 combat stances, but you can easily play through the game in the default stance (it only takes about an hour). I will give praise for the dismemberment effects and some decent execution animations. Even without executing well on everything there is something to be said for the attempt. I'd recommend the morbidly curious to give this a spin. I am hopeful GameHunters will continue learning and creating games that reach their target audience.
I really, really want to like this game. It has a solid premise and the gameplay is good for the most part. There is a critical failure in how unresponsive the controls are for a game that wants wants you to have quick reactions to avoid getting pinballed between enemies. The concepts, execution, visuals and music are all there and really solid. But regardless of controller or keyboard and mouse, you just don't have the split second response you need for what they throw at you. Mainly in the Blocking and Parrying mechanic, but it's even there a bit in the dodging. For the price point, it's worth looking into at the very least, but expect frustration due to loose control responses.

Sometimes keeping it simple is better than complicating a good video game. Its rare to see top down fighting games. This reminds me of my favorite video games, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2, Champions of Norrath, Champions: Return to arms. Fighting in this game is good enough. The controls are sufficiently responsive. Usually the video games that are fun and don't require much thinking sell the best. Also, I think the devs are very aware of the value of their game and what people are willing to pay for a video game. I don't have to wait for a sale to buy this game. So...GameHunters, can y'all make a fantasy version of this similar to these games: Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2, Champions of Norrath, Champions: Return to arms; thanks.
Took me an hour to beat. Hear me out though... This could be cool if they tightened up the combat and animations for speed running. Actually, scratch that — don't. The fun ceiling here is low, low, low, and no amount of dev time is going to raise it. This is as good as this game is going to get. I didn't hate it. Obviously didn't love it either, because there wasn't much to love. But it served its five dollar purpose and I got to slice a few enemies up. It's like a top-down Euro Jank take on Nier crossed with Hotline Miami. Honestly, now that I think about it, it's a direct rip-off of Hotline Miami. 6/10 — can't recommend in good faith because I don't want anyone to feel like they wasted five bucks, but I'm not entirely disappointed either.
Fun little top-down slasher that runs about 90 minutes for 5 dollars, which is fine with me. You travel through rural Chinese villages and coasts and castles and every so often, a group of enemies attack you. This might be all ninjas (very fast), pole fighters (long reach), guards (heavy armor), skeletons (good at swarming you), and so on, or it might be a mix. You're awarded one upgrade point after each level which improves various stats and skills. The combat is fast and fun if simple, with a lot of emphasis placed on dodging and parrying. You just can't hack your way through a half dozen enemies, you have to pick your spots while doing a lot of avoidance. There are also bosses who have special moves and weapons, as you'd expect. There's not much of story nor is there any exploration or collection, just keep moving forward, fighting groups of enemies until you get to the boss. It's a missed opportunity not to have made this a score-based game with leaderboards, then it would be fun to replay the levels and compete with others. The graphics are limited but the character models are nice, a decent amount of thought went into their armor and weapons. It's not a big deal but if you're looking for a fun little cheapie to get your hack & slash on, this fits the bill.
If you played the demo, the game takes less than 40 minutes to beat. If you didn't, it'll probably take less than an hour and 15 minutes. The combat is clunky, there is no targeting system, and the levels are recycled. Or maybe it just seems like it because you walk, fight some enemies, walk, fight, end. And honestly, that'd be perfect.... if the combat was any good. It isn't.
Not a bad game, its not very long but it's skill based, it has skills to upgrade and it's like playing an old SNES game. It's a beat them up game with bosses and some interesting areas:) Content is only a few hours BUT only if you play good, it has parry and dodge mechanics. Played here for 30 minutes, beat 2 bosses and reached an interesting area https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyxTzTjQKsg Would like to see a proper sequel with more progressions and items.
Fun especially for the $5 price point; sometimes the controls arent crispy but excited to see the updates for the game over the next few years
