i prefer to look at it as promotion for Darren Korb's music. shame devs don't produce vinyl for their soundtracks anymore.
honestly, this game ended up being a lot more tactical then brute-forcing and i like that about this game.
A game with all style but sadly little substance imo. So I played this game back when it originally came out on PS4, and really enjoyed it. It was one of the games that made me go “wow, indie games have a lot to offer”, in a time where I mostly played AAA titles. So I wanted to go back and replay it and sadly I just didn't enjoy it as much as I remember. To start off, the best parts about this game are easily the art direction and music. The art style is very distinct and has that Supergiant flair to it. The way they use color and the character designs all look very cool even for a game that’s over a decade old. The music as well is phenomenal and easily the part about the game I can recommend. Darren Korb who does the music for all of Supergiant’s titles is a master of his craft and this is definitely his best work imo. A beautiful composition of both ambient and vocal pieces that make it really a joy to listen to and I have been listening to it for over a decade. Next we have combat which is a mix of action and turn based. During battle you will go into turn based mode as the world freezes and you can move around and pick your moves before your character then does it all in real time. It’s cool and flashy but there are issues with it I find, like once you do your turn, you’re basically a sitting duck for enemies to attack as they chase you in real time while you wait for your action bar to refill. The most annoying were the dog enemies that can easily catch up with you and they do a ton of damage per hit. That leads us into the progression system where the game has a lot going on. The main things you will be using in combat are functions which act as abilities that you can slot into either an active, passive or upgrade slot and they do different things depending on which slots you equip them in. Active are the 4 abilities you use in combat, upgrade slots will give those active ones unique upgrades depending on which functions you use and passive are self explanatory. This is limited to how much memory you have, kind of like the cyberware in Cyberpunk 2077, with each function costing a certain amount of memory, and it's very limited overall and you can’t go over the limit. You can upgrade your memory as well as gaining new passive and upgrade slots when you level up. I will say, it’s fun to try out different combinations until you find the functions you like best and which ones are most effective in combat. But then that leads into my main issue in that the combat is really unfair at times and balanced poorly imo. You have a health bar and each time it depletes to zero you lose a function to revive, kind of like a lives system which is fine in theory as it makes the encounters more intense. My main issue is once combat is over, the functions you lost are gone for a while until you progress further into the level. And this just really annoyed me as you lose some of your best stuff you had which makes the next few encounters more difficult and tedious then they really needed to be, especially at the start of the game when you only have a small handful of functions to use. The amount of times I almost rage quit because of this alone, was too many. Then there’s the story which is okay I guess but not that special. It’s moody for sure and there’s some cool lore to the universe, but it can come off really pretentious at times and like it needed way more meat on the bones to be truly interesting. And ya overall, I sadly just didn’t enjoy this game. Don’t recommend this one other than the OST which like I said before is incredible but the game itself, nah.
design that doesnt get fun until the end of game. great vibe and sound though
入坑steam买的第二款游戏,技能搭配强化当时真的觉得惊为天人
A great game that took a couple of attempts for me to play. The visuals and soundtrack are amazing and for me is what makes Transistor worth playing. The gameplay and voices are a bit more of a mixed bag. I first attempted to play the game several years ago but the pseudo turn-based gameplay just never really stuck with me, and I personally found the male lead's voice acting to be overwhelming with a quite large amount of voice lines. I was never able to truly enjoy the music without standing still in an area. Coming back to it again, I still have the same complaints but the soundtrack really smoothed everything out for me. I'm definitely adding it to my playlist and highly recommend grabbing the soundtrack if you buy the game.
Bastion is probably one of my favourite games of all time. I thought I would like Transistor, meaning to try it out ever since the game released but I think if it wasn't for the short length of the game I would have regretted it. The best possible rating I could give it is meh. Incredibly poor combat system. It's interesting for the first 10 minutes but once I realised the game is pausing time, doing X amount of moves then running round waiting until you can do that again I had enough. I thought unlocking functions could make it more interesting but some of them feel borderline unusable or just plain boring. The music is good but it wasn't close to being as captivating as Bastions. Other than in key moments it just felt like it was playing in the background, while in Bastion it felt present in every moment. The story just didn't engage me at all, it had some interesting aspects but too quick and sloppy in it's execution. Also, a talking sword just isn’t as cool as a smooth voiced narrator. The art work is beautiful and probably the only selling point of the game. The only reason I would recommend the game is if you wanted to look at an art piece for a few hours.
画面比bastion进步很多,但是这种半即时的游戏机制和角色笨重的走位让游戏体验变得很糟糕。
