The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe

my computer bluescreened and i thought it was a part of the game 10/10 (Ignore the time played i mostly play on my switch)

This game is so peak, it's basically the Backrooms before the Backrooms, it's got a very strong liminal space vibe and I personally don't find it super comedic, it's more like a psychological nightmare that I keep coming back to because I just wanna see how much I can break the game lol. I have a toxic relationship with the narrator, some endings I wanna ruin him and other endings I feel sorry for him. The game itself is hard to explain, it's basically a visual novel without the novel part, but I can't spoil any more, you just need to play it for yourself.

Just writing this for the narrator, since you felt disappointed about the negative steam reviews, they are right you are quite the rambler and it's okay

Remember that scene in Thor Ragnarok when Korg describes that room. "It's not a real circle. more like a freaky circle". That room in a way is like this game. Just bonkers. 10/10

a game that reflects on choice and conciousness, absolutely one of the most original ideas ive ever seen. very reccomended

I do not object to the idea that human life has no preassigned cosmic purpose. I lean toward an existentialist view: meaning may not be inherent, but conscious experience, choice, pain, attachment, and responsibility remain real to the people living through them. The universe’s indifference does not require human indifference. My objection is that The Stanley Parable repeatedly slides from criticizing corporate control and materialism into treating ordinary human pursuits—money, knowledge, power, work, achievement, and even the player’s desire to make a meaningful choice—as inherently shallow or ridiculous. That distinction matters. Money is not the meaning of life, but it can pay for medical care, housing, privacy, legal protection, education, and the ability to leave an abusive home or unsafe workplace. Knowledge and power are not merely corrupting ambitions; they can reduce helplessness and allow a person to protect themselves and others. The game presents itself as a conversation about choice, but I found the conversation fundamentally unequal. The designers determine every possible action and then assign a mocking interpretation to the player’s obedience, resistance, curiosity, or desire for completion. Because every objection can be absorbed into another joke, the game rarely has to take the player’s position seriously. I understand that much of this is intentional and that the Narrator, the developers, commercial sequels, and the game itself are also targets of the satire. But anticipating a criticism does not answer it, and acknowledging a contradiction does not eliminate it. For me, the result felt less like an examination of freedom and more like a work congratulating itself for controlling and ridiculing the person whose purchase made the performance possible.

In all the years of its existence, I've never been able to play The Stanley Parable properly. I've watched countless let's-plays and I've tried the original demo, but I've never had my hands on the full game... until now. And even though I don't have the right type of nostalgia for this game, I was still incredibly moved by the fact that I was now the one playing the game for once. Despite all the videos I watched as a kid, they could never have prepared me for the ginormous amount of freedom this game gives you, and after screwing around so much to find all the different endings, it felt extra earned to unlock the "ultra deluxe" portion of the game. "After 13 years, Stanley had finally gotten closure. Stanley was happy once again."
