should be the stander for all RTS games
Total War: Warhammer II is the kind of strategy game where you start by managing a small province and somehow end up commanding dragons, dinosaurs, undead pirates, and giant magical catastrophes. Every faction feels unique. The High Elves focus on diplomacy and elite armies, the Dark Elves thrive on conquest and slavery, the Lizardmen bring literal dinosaurs to war, and the Skaven solve most problems with overwhelming numbers and dangerously unstable technology. The Vortex campaign provides a focused objective, but the real star is the massive Mortal Empires campaign. Building cities, managing diplomacy, researching technology, and leading enormous real-time battles creates a satisfying loop that can easily consume hundreds of hours. Battles are visually spectacular and strategically deep. Positioning, terrain, magic, flying units, monsters, artillery, and heroes all matter, allowing every engagement to play out differently. The DLC catalog can become expensive, turn times may feel long in larger campaigns, and newcomers may find the number of mechanics overwhelming. Even so, few strategy games offer this much variety and replayability. I started as a responsible ruler. Fifty turns later I was commanding laser-powered dinosaurs against an army of radioactive rat-men. 10/10 strategy game.
