I wish it was longer and had more cool bosses and the team had more budget. It's short but its has a few cool boss fights.
If you're desperately craving some Sekiro-like combat, this game could do the trick, but, honestly, a few things really started to rub me the wrong way toward the end. First of all, there's a cap on the number of talents points you can unlock, essentially making leveling up almost useless after this point. I really don't see the point, especially because there is actually a level cap too a bit further. Then the lack of basic QoL features like teleporting between resting spots make backtracking through those absolutely pointless levels a complete slogfest. And last but not least, this is of course one of those games when the cutscene triggers each time you get into the boss room... It really makes you wonder if the people behind these games actually play soulslike or even their own games properly. Anyway, apart from these main gripes, it's a somewhat serviceable game with an alright combat system. Your enjoyment will depend on your tolerance of a few unpolished mechanics and also a few highly annoying boss fights. The pros did outbalance the cons most of the time for me and I had some fun, but can't be hassled to clear the remaining optional stuff after reaching the end. Unless at a serious discount, I wouldn't recommend this. If you're looking for some obscure souls-like built around parry mechanics, AI Limit is much much better than this and has devs that actually support the game.
This is a pretty solid Souls Like considering the size of the team for this game. Most of the Bosses are good, and combat feels fun (when it works properly. There is of course some jank.) The camera is a bit of a pain occasionally, and some enemy attacks seem a bit busted. Level Design is okay, story is not much to write home about, and enemy variety is pretty lacking. There is also a significant difficulty spike around the first major boss, and the game never gets harder that that boss. I'd say the rest of the game is fairly easy compared to Odur. But regardless, the other bosses (save a few) and the combat carry this into being something pretty decent.
I really liked this game. Parries feel great, the plague weapon system is fun and each weapon is decent, with some being exceptionally good. I hope this gets a sequel because there's a lot of potential in both lore and gameplay. Only problem is, Harmonized Force is bugged. You need to activate the Steam Overlay while the ending cutscene plays so that the ending triggers, otherwise it always triggers Power of Cleansing. I wish the devs the best, hoping to see something new of you guys soon!
Combat is fast, with no stamina bar. You can parry, deflect, dodge and there are skill that improve each of these. There is a skill point cap, so you can't get all skills at the same time but you can reskill when you rest at a beacon without cost. Some enemy moves could be telegraphed better, but on the whole, it work's quite nicely. Too bad that the game is rather short. But you can replay any level freely, which helps with farming XP.
gonna review this here as I played quite a bit on some friends PCs and recently bought it for myself. Thymesia is a decently enjoyable experience, I feel though I had an ex boyfriend and some close friends of mine in 2024 hype it up a little more than it was worth sadly as their opinions made me go into this game with more excitement than I probably should've had. This game unfortunately gets old a little quickly and there are some mechanics that I don't personally see much of a point in like the feathers, the different combat elements make the entire combat experience a little too much and it definitely feels oversaturated just to make something unique that simply didn't hit for me. I truly also wish Thymesia had a stagger mechanic and its something that feels missing for me, this game has so many different combat styles yet no way to stagger, its definitely a missed opportunity and I wish it existed here. The general combat however is really nice, I always enjoy a game with a parry mechanic and the one in Thymesia is very good, visually this game also does look phenomenal, I love a lot of the designs and lighting but I just wish there was more, the game is too short for its own good and I think if it was longer I would've gotten more into the world it has, its definitely a one and done game imo but enjoyable nonetheless. Majority of the bosses actually feel quite nice to fight which mostly comes down to the main combat being insanely smooth which I like a lot, I have not fought the final boss and I've sadly heard mixed reviews about it and this game simply has never shown enough worth to me to get that far, I will very likely complete it fully now that I own it myself but just playing through the first main area after about 4 months away from the game I can't say I'm enjoying a lot of it. If you're looking for a short game that feels nice to play through I would recommend it, don't worry too much about some of the different combat styles, pick one way to play and continue with that or you'll likely stress yourself out too quickly, this won't be the game to get into for a lot of people and thats totally okay, but it is a beautiful game visually with mostly great bosses and the general story is also really nice to go through, I just wish the whole game was longer and better optimized.
- A budget soulslike. It's short but packed with content. One of its unique mechanics is that part of the damage you deal turns into a "green" portion of the enemy's health bar, which can only be removed with a special Claw attack. Unfortunately, this mechanic doesn't work very well. Even when you're overleveled, it's hard to one-shot weaker enemies. Finishing enemies off is also frustrating: when a mob has around 10% HP left, you still need to land at least two more hits, and the finishing Claw attack is very slow. - There's a small hub area where you select missions, somewhat similar to Nioh. - The combat is fairly fast-paced. The parry system works well, but dodging feels a bit underpowered. Enemy staggering also feels very inconsistent, and it's difficult to tell what actually affects poise in this game. - The character progression is interesting. You can level up three different stats, and there are several types of special weapons to choose from, each with unique effects. - There's a good variety of enemies, especially considering the game's budget. - Boss fights are interesting and enjoyable. - A major downside is the complete lack of voice acting in dialogues, so you have to read everything. - I got stuck in the textures a few times. - Overall, it's a short but engaging game. I recommend it!
