The Window Box

A group of friends who haven't seen each other for a long time, each with their own problems and insecurities. You can notice right from the start that one of the characters has more pressing issues in their life and the other characters start to wonder. The puzzles in this game were decent, nothing too exciting. The artwork is beautiful and colorful, really lovely to look at. Soundtrack was great to listen to and very relaxing. Story was surprisingly deep, interesting and a little bit dark in the end. A beautiful visual novel game that brings out topics that are a little bit of a taboo, but are something that should be talked about. I definitely recommend this one.

I really enjoyed this VN, graphics are really pretty, the story is going into weird territory at times, but everything fits the aesthetic and the themes. All the "mini games" were both cute and adapted, reminding me of real situation. John, you're an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

This Novel is great, it feels empowering and I recommend to read it. But I have to warn about heavy subjects, there is no shame in quitting, actually if you feel it getting to heavy, please quit. Read it when you are in a place you can handle it.

Made me cry. Luckily I had a great partner to read through it with. The art was strange & took a bit of getting used to at first, but I really started to get attached to it, especially in the painting section. Overall a good game, would recommend.

Game is very buggy and broken, Will not load a lot of the time. other then that the story is OK, I think I am still missing the full story, because the game kept breaking.

Let's start this review with a conclusion: The Window Box is a fantastic story, and well worth the price of admission. Buy it and play it. Now, why is it so great? Well, the strongest point of any visual novel like this should of course be the story, and the writing in The Window Box is truly excellent. If I had to choose a weak spot, I would say that the first 5 minutes or so didn't grab me as quickly as it could have, but once I was engrossed in the plot I really cared about the characters and where their storylines would go, especially Elsa. As the "About" section clearly states, this story does deal with an abusive relationship, but that's not all that's here, the other characters are compelling as well and have their own things going on. It's not exactly a happy game, but it has its uplifting moments for sure. Also, the art! Christina Ellis's art really pulls the whole game together, it wouldn't be the same without the visual style which is presented so strongly here. The appearance of fashion illustration fits perfectly with the dollhouse presentation of the transitions between different locations. The emotions of each character are portrayed so clearly and effectively as well, it's all just so well done. The music is great too, subtle but effective, more present when it needs to be. The audio design in general is better than most games, there are segments where the story is told completely by sound rather than through text. So, if any of this sounds appealing to you, go ahead and check it out! Also, it runs perfectly on the Steam Deck, if you care about that.

Just finished this game. This is a nice point and click, linear VN that appears to be about a group of friends who all meet up to catch up but have their plans go awry thanks to a thunderstorm. What you get is a snippet of their lives as they navigate through a crossroad or an issue that they are dealing with. This game also handles heavy themes such as [spoiler]emotional abuse and how it heavily affected our dear MC.[/spoiler] Granted it took a bit to have me hooked but I definitely enjoyed it. I will say, I wished we had a proper save option and I didn't like how I almost could miss a section if I did not semi spoiled myself with the walk through. Luckily it has a screen select so that works. Overall I enjoyed this VN, it was interesting and I liked the overall story.

The game trapped me in the scene selector when i clicked on a little drawer stand in the bottom right corner and wouldn't let me out without clicking on a scene, forcing me to reset the scene or go forward in the game.
