Russell Stone is a Jewish Rabbi at a poor synagogue in New York City. He is a devout man with a problem. Membership is way down and he lacks the funds to keep his synagogue open. Things are looking very bleak, and he has grown progressively more cynical and bitter with the passage of time.

Finished in under 3 hours with all achievements. The setup is interesting: you play a Jewish Rabbi investigating the death of a former congregant after the police inform you that he left your synagogue a $10,000 donation. The graphics and animation are about what I expect from a Wadjet Eye game, but The Shivah ended up feeling like a very slight and strange experience. There are only six locations in the whole game, and there are basically no real puzzles. Most of the experience is dialogue and a few simulated online interactions. If that is what you want, fine, but it made the investigation feel thin. For me, this was a missed opportunity. If the goal was partly to expose players to Jewish culture, the game really could have used some kind of in-game glossary or encyclopedia for the Hebrew phrases. As it stands, I think a lot of non-Jewish players will feel like they are being asked to engage with a very specific worldview without enough context, and the story was not strong enough to fully carry that. I can still recommend it, but only at a low price. If you get it cheap, it is a short narrative curiosity. If you pay more than $5, I think most people will feel ripped off.
I played this using a guide because I did not feel like figuring out what I needed to do to progress the story. Overall game was short and entertaining enough. My favorite part was probably that it has voice actor outtakes after the credits. Not many games about a rabbi trying to solve a murder mystery so it was unique at least.
Rather short but very good. Some of the VA is kinda messed up sounding, but not too big of a deal. Good writing. Worth it for the price
This just became one of my favorite games. The writing and music are both incredible. In fact, I've looked everywhere for the OST, and can't find it available to buy anywhere. I would definitely pay more money for that soundtrack, fyi.
This is a solid 10 oys out of 10 veys, defiitely recommend.
Diving into a detective story that feels like coffee with grandma. It’s a funny investigation with a dash of wisdom, and I m still searching for my little drop of caffeine to keep going.
funny
Shivah is a seemingly simple game that conceals much more depth than meets the eye. The gameplay is minimalist and accessible, but the real magic comes from the story. The narrative unfolds with genuine intrigue, and you find yourself wanting to discover what happens next. It's a game you play not for the mechanics, but for the story itself and its characters.
